Hello everyone. In this guide, we will go over some of the meta cards and how to counter them. There are many great cards in the game, and we’ll go over some that are used the most in the Dueling Club.
In this section, we will go over some of the meta spell cards and how to counter them.
Accio is mainly used in Snape decks, and it pulls the first target it hits towards the caster and binds it for a short while.
The easiest way to counter this is to hide behind your summons. If you are not playing a deck that utilizes summons, then you should try your best to be on the move. This will make it much harder for the opponent to hit you with Accio.
One way to avoid Atmospheric Charm is to simply be on the move. However, if the enemy uses it on one of your important summons or companions, you can counter it with Nebulus.
As long as there are no enemy summons in range, Nebulus should hide you and your summons, and the cloud won’t be able to do any damage.
Confringo is one of the most powerful area-of-effect spells. It will deal the most damage if there are a lot of targets stacked up near one another.
Because of that, the best way to counter it is to space out your summons. That way, your opponent won’t be able to hit all of them with Confringo, which will significantly reduce its damage.
Harry Potter decks often have Expelliarmus, and you can avoid it in a similar way you would avoid Accio. Either hide behind your summons, or try your best to be on the move (if you aren’t using any summons).
Nebulus is used in many meta decks, and it can be annoying to deal with, especially if you are using a summon-heavy deck.
One way to counter it is to use Incendio on top of the Nebulus fog. Any enemy hit by Incendio will be revealed.
Alternatively, you can send the Monster Book of Monsters (or the Stack of Monster Book of Monsters) inside the Nebulus fog. This will immediately reveal the enemies hiding inside.
Orb of Water
Orb of Water is used in some of the meta decks, and it is an amazing spell for controlling enemies and doing damage to them.
Most of the time, your opponent will use this spell to group up you and your summons and follow it up with another high-damage spell.
One of the ways to counter it is to space out your summons and stay away from them. This way, when the opponent uses Orb of Water, you will have enough time to react and move to prevent getting caught in the Orb.
Dealing with Time-Turners can be quite difficult. One way to do it is to position yourself in front of the Time-Turner copy and use Stupefy to send it towards the enemy side of the field.
Since the Time-Turner copies only follow the movement of the enemy player, they will be unable to move it past their half of the field.
The best way to counter Thunderstorm is to use Nebulus to hide. If you don’t have Nebulus in your deck, an alternative is to have some summons up to split up the damage.
Weasley’s Wildfire Whiz-Bangs
This spell is often used in combination with Incarcerous Spell. There are a few ways to counter it. One way is to use Apparition (if your Echo is Dobby). Another way to counter it is to use Side-Along Apparition.
You can also use Broomstick to avoid damage from Whiz-Bangs. If you time it right, your character will return to the starting spot shortly after the Whiz-Bangs explode, and you’ll avoid taking damage.
In this section, we’ll go over some of the meta summon cards and how to counter them.
This card can be tricky to deal with, especially if your opponent is using the Echo of Neville Longbottom. If that is the case, your best option is to use the Atmospheric Charm since it will significantly reduce the healing the target receives.
A quick and easy way to deal with Acromantula’s Nest is to use Weasley’s Wildfire Whiz-Bangs directly on top of it. This, however, is not the most efficient method since the spell uses 7 MP.
Another way to deal with the nest is to hit it with Accio or Expulso to move it closer to the center of the field. This should allow you to hit the nest with your basic attacks.
You can also use Bombtastic Bomb Box and then send the Monster Book of Monsters towards the nest. This, however, is not always guaranteed to work since the Monster Book of Monsters doesn’t have much HP, and your opponent can quickly eliminate it.
Lastly, another way to deal with Acromantula’s Nest is to use Oppugno and Broomstick combo. This is especially effective if you are using the Echo of Harry Potter.
Antipodean Opaleye is a high-cost summon that is capable of doing a lot of area-of-effect damage. It is often used in Hagrid and Neville decks, and there are a few ways to deal with it.
One way of dealing with it is to use Fwoopers. These birds will do a lot of damage to the Antipodean Opaleye and will also apply a fear effect. It is also recommended to use Atmospheric Charm to prevent the Opaleye from healing, in case your opponent is using the Echo of Hagrid.
You can also deal with Opaleye by using a high-damage single-target spell, such as Crucio. As long as you don’t mind delving into dark arts, Crucio is a perfect spell to counter Antipodean Opaleye.
If left unchecked, Ashwinder can spawn several small snakes and deal a lot of damage. Because of that, the quickest way to deal with it is to hit it with a high-damage spell such as Incendio as soon as it spawns.
If possible, try to target Indendio so that it hits both Ashwinder and another nearby target. If there are several enemy units nearby, you can use Confringo instead.
Bombtastic Bomb Box
If you are facing an enemy that is using Bombtastic Bomb Box, you should always save your high-damage spell, such as Incendio, to deal with it. As soon as you see the enemy summoning the box, you should immediately hit it with Incendio, which will quickly destroy it.
Centaurs can do a lot of damage if you don’t deal with them quickly. Luckily, they don’t have too much HP, so you can quickly take them down with many damage spells.
Alternatively, if you aren’t using any summons, you can use Nebulus to hide. This will cause the Centaur to start moving towards the center of the field, which will allow you to hit it with your basic attacks.
Fiendfyre can be tricky to deal with, especially if the opponent is using the Echo of Hagrid. If that is the case, it is recommended to use the Atmospheric Charm to prevent it from healing and then hit it with a high-damage spell, such as Incendio or Crucio.
Fwoopers are generally used to counter other summons. Luckily, they have pretty low HP, so you can easily take them down with a high-damage spell such as Incendio or Sectumsempra.
Matagots can be annoying to deal with, especially if your opponent is using them together with other summons.
Luckily, if that is the case, the easiest way to take care of them is to wait until they are stacked up with other summons and use Confringo to eliminate them all.
Norwegian Ridgeback Egg
This summon is mostly used in Hagrid or Neville decks. There are a few ways to counter it. Most of the time, the egg will be summoned in the back side of the field, away from your reach. Because of that, you can try using Expulso or Accio to move the egg towards the middle of the field.
Alternatively, you can use high-damage spells to deal with the egg. Atmospheric Charm + Incendio will do the trick most of the time. You can also use Weasley’s Wildfire Whiz-Bangs to destroy the egg.
There are a few different ways to deal with Occamy. One way is to quickly take it down with Incendio. Alternatively, if you aren’t using summons, you can simply move away from its attacks since they are heavily telegraphed.
However, if your opponent is using the Echo of Neville Longbottom, you don’t want to let several Occamies get summoned, so using Incendio to quickly eliminate them is the preferred way of dealing with them.
The main disadvantage of the stone soldiers summoned by Piertotum Locomotor is their slow movement speed. Because of that, it is relatively easy to counter them with spells like Acromantula Venom or Ventus.
Also, you can use Expulso to knock them away, and make it harder for them to reach you. Another way to counter Piertotum Locomotor soldiers is to use Cassandra Vole.
If you aren’t using summons, you can also use Nebulus to hide from the soldiers, which will cause them to stand still and do nothing while you are hidden.
If left unchecked, Thunderbirds can buff the enemy summons with damage-absorbing shields. This can significantly increase the survivability of enemy summons, so you want to eliminate the Thunderbird as soon as it is summoned.
An easy way to deal with the Thunderbird is to quickly take it down with Incendio. Alternatively, you can use Expulso to push it closer to the middle of the field in order to hit it with your basic attacks.
Also, if there are other summons near the Thunderbird, you can use Confringo to take them all down.
Most of the time, Unicorn is used in Neville decks. It will usually be summoned near the back of the field, away from your reach. One way to counter it is to use Expulso or Accio to move it towards the center of the field.
If that isn’t possible, you can use Atmospheric Charm to significantly reduce the healing and do damage to the Unicorn. You’ll likely need to follow this up with another damage spell such as Incendio. Alternatively, you can use Weasley’s Wildfire Whiz-Bangs to deal with the Unicorn.
In this section, we will go over some of the meta companion cards and how to counter them.
Cassandra is generally used to counter summon-heavy decks. There are a few ways to counter her. You can simply use a heavy damage spell, such as Weasley’s Wildfire Whiz-Bangs or Crucio to quickly eliminate her.
Alternatively, you can go with Atmospheric Charm + Incendio combo. Another way to deal with Cassandra is to summon Ivy to instantly eliminate her with Vanishing Spell.
Lastly, if you aren’t using summons, you can simply push Cassandra towards the back of the field with Expulso or Stupefy, so you won’t need to worry about her.
Daniel is mostly utilized in Neville decks. A relatively easy way to counter him is to use Weasley’s Wildfire Whiz-Bangs on top of him after he gets summoned. Since he is often used in combination with Norwegian Ridgeback Egg and Unicorn, this spell will essentially eliminate both Daniel and the creature he is supposed to heal.
Frey Twins can be annoying to deal with. Most of the time, your opponent will summon them together with some other summons to put more pressure on you. If that happens, your best bet is to use an area of effect damage spell, such as Confringo or Weasley’s Wildfire Whiz-Bangs to quickly eliminate them.
If your opponent only summons the Frey Twins, using Sectumsempra is an effective way of dealing with them.
Hermione can be quite difficult to deal with, especially if your opponent summons her inside the Nebulus fog. If that happens, you can use Weasley’s Wildfire Whiz-Bangs to quickly take her down.
Alternatively, you can wait until she exits the fog and then use Crucio or Ivy Warrington to eliminate her.
Kevin is often used in Snape and Neville decks. He has a lot of health, so countering him can be tricky. One way to counter him is to use Weasley’s Wildfire Whiz-Bangs to eliminate him.
Keep in mind, however, that this sometimes won’t be enough, so you might need to follow it up with another spell, which will drain a lot of your MP.
A better way to deal with Kevin is to use Expulso to move him towards the center of the field and then use Ivy Warrington to instantly eliminate him.
If left unchecked, Lotte can generate a lot of MP for your opponent. Because of that, you want to deal with her as soon as she is summoned. An effective way to do that is to immediately hit her with a high-damage spell, such as Incendio or Weasley’s Wildfire Whiz-Bangs.
Alternatively, you can move her towards the middle of the field using Accio or Expulso. That should put her in range of your basic attacks.
Malfoy Gang can put a lot of pressure on you if you aren’t prepared for them. One way to deal with them is to use a high-damage spell, such as Weasley’s Wildfire Whiz-Bangs or Crucio, targeted at Draco.
Whenever any member of the Malfoy Gang gets eliminated, the rest will run away, and since Draco has the lowest HP, targeting him is generally the best option.
Alternatively, if your opponent uses the Malfoy Gang together with some other summons, you can use Confringo to do a lot of damage to all of them.
A well-timed Ron can easily turn the tide of the battle. He is very effective against summon-heavy decks, and if you are running such a deck, you might want to add Ivy Warrington to your deck.
Ivy can instantly eliminate Ron, and is by far the best counter for him. Alternatively, you can use a high-damage spell, such as Crucio, to quickly take care of him.
There are many ways to counter each card in the game. Hopefully, this guide will help you deal with some of the meta cards.
