Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for A Watchful Eye Side Quest of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. This side quest is available for students of Year 4 and above and it should unlock after reaching Chapter 2 of Year 4.

During it, you’ll find out that Hagrid wants to use Clabberts to warn about dangers in the Magical Creature Reserve. He needs your help to make this plan work and to train the Clabberts to recognize real threats.

Proceed to Hagrid’s Garden when you are ready. When you arrive, Hagrid will thank you for meeting him and tell you that there’s someone else who wants to see you too.

Then he’ll ask you to tell him what sort of creature it is. There are three options to choose from. The correct answer is “Clabbert.” After that, Hagrid will provide you with more information about the Clabberts. To learn about Clabberts, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Hagrid and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

Upon completion, you’ll discover that Clabberts come equipped with a natural alarm system. When they sense danger, the pustule on their forehead flashes red as a protective mechanism.

He’ll ask you what you think about it. There are three options to choose from. If you like Hagrid, it is recommended to pick the first or second option.

You’ll inquire if Clabbert was part of the idea he wanted to share with you. This line will differ based on your previous choice.

He’s been thinking about ways to protect the Magical Creatures Reserve, especially considering the challenges with troublemakers in the past.

Hagrid will agree with your concerns and appreciate your help in stopping troublemakers. He’ll mention his worries about both intruders and students accidentally putting magical creatures at risk in the reserve. To address this, he’ll suggest training a team of Clabberts to act as protectors for the Magical Creatures Reserve. This line will differ based on your previous choice.

Hagrid will explain that the trained Clabberts will serve as a warning system to alert you when there’s danger. He’ll ask for your assistance in training Clabbert, and you’ll express your willingness to help, understanding that it will enhance the protection of magical creatures. Hagrid will suggest meeting in the Care of Magical Creatures classroom to start the training, mentioning that he’ll bring in an expert to assist you.

You’ll happily agree, and Hagrid will propose a meeting later to start the Clabbert training session.

Your next task is to unlock the Clabbert. To do that, you will need 30 Red, 35 Blue, and 40 Yellow Notebooks. While this is quite a lot of notebooks, at least the side quest is not time-limited, so you can take as long as you need to collect them.

Go to The Care of Magical Creatures to continue the story. When you arrive, you’ll see Hagrid and Miss Blackbird. You’ll approach them and greet them. These lines will differ based on whether you completed the Eye of the Storm adventure where you met Holly Blackbird.

She’ll joke that this time you won’t be flying up in any thunderbird storms. You’ll then ask her if there isn’t another Hodag on the loose, and she’ll assure you that it’s not the case. Hagrid will explain that Miss Blackbird is here because she brought her Clabbert.

Hagrid will mention they are discussing how to create a sense of danger for Clabbert to react to. Miss Blackbird will add that Clabbert’s defense mechanism is truly unique, and students could learn a lot by witnessing it firsthand. She’ll explain that you just need to convince Clabbert that a stranger is lurking around, but the problem is that Clabbert knows you and won’t recognize you as a danger. Following that, you’ll ask her what the plan will be.

She’ll mention that she found a great mask and needs to put it on so Clabbert won’t recognize her. After donning the mask, she will ask for your opinion. There are three different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

She’ll propose that you and Hagrid stand next to Clabbert while she, wearing the mask, sneaks up next to you. She will instruct you that if Clabbert notices her and raises the alarm, you should give him a treat. To train your Clabbert, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The bonus progress actions are tied to Miss Blackbird. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions. 

When you finish, you’ll mention that Clabbert successfully raised the alarm and sensed danger when the masked Miss Blackbird passed by. Miss Blackbird will inquire if Clabbert was scared, and you’ll respond that he doesn’t seem like it, suggesting that he had fun.

Hagrid will clarify that Clabbert just needs to follow his instincts to succeed in training. Miss Blackbird will express her happiness that it worked and mention that she couldn’t see anything through the mask. You’ll thank Miss Blackbird for her assistance, and she’ll say that she’s always happy to help a fellow creature-lover in need. She’ll add that now that she’s helped you, she has to return to the States. You’ll ask her why she has to leave so soon.

She’ll explain that now that she knows Clabbert is in good hands, she can leave with peace of mind. Hagrid will thank her, assuring her that he’ll keep her informed about Clabbert’s progress. She’ll mention that students can learn a lot from a trained Clabbert and then ask Hagrid if he reviewed all the rules and regulations concerning Clabberts.

After she leaves, you’ll inquire with Hagrid about what’s next, and he’ll mention that you’re nearly ready for your next training session. He’ll explain that you’ll head to Clabbert’s home in the reserve for the next phase of the training.

Proceed to the Lake at the Magical Creatures Reserve when you are ready. When you arrive, Hagrid will inquire if you’re prepared for the next stage of Clabbert alertness training.

Hagrid will mention that now that you’re in the reserve, you can set up right there. Following that, a Murtlap will approach you.

Hagrid will instruct Clabbert to say hello to his new friend, but Clabbert will perceive the Murtlap as a threat and issue a warning. Following that, Hagrid will recommend that you calm down the situation before it escalates. To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. 

The bonus progress actions are tied to Murtlap. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

After successfully calming down the creatures, Hagrid will comment that you should have better prepared Clabert before coming. Then, Hagrid will inquire why you think Clabert sensed danger when the Murtlap approached. There are three options to choose from. The correct answer is “It was unfamiliar.”

Shortly after, Hagrid will mention that Clabbert is still new to the area and doesn’t know the other creatures well. He’ll explain that Clabbert perceives them as a threat, even when they approach just to say hello.

Hagrid will express concern about how Clabbert might react to a Norwegian Ridgeback if it reacts this way to a Murtlap. Acknowledging the issue, you’ll suggest helping Clabbert become familiar with the creatures in the area. Hagrid will agree, emphasizing that creatures perceive the world in terms of what’s safe or dangerous rather than good or bad, unlike humans.

Hagrid will propose arranging a socializing session between Clabbert and another creature. He plans to set up the time and place, promising to let you know once everything is ready. This line will differ based on your level of trust with Clabbert.

Your next task is to reach level 4 trust with Clabbert. Since this side quest is not time-limited, you can take as long as you need to finish this task.

When you are done, go to the Lakeshore. When you arrive, you’ll see the unusual sight of Hagrid in the company of a Norwegian Ridgeback dragon.

You’ll express disbelief that Hagrid brought a dragon to the Clabbert socialization session and ask him for his reasoning. This line will differ based on whether you own a Norwegian Ridgeback dragon.  

He will say that if Clabbert can get used to being around a dragon, Murtlap won’t bother it at all. He’ll say that this is his theory and ask you if you have any concerns about his choice of creature. There are three options to choose from. If you like Hagrid, it is recommended to pick the first option.

You’ll observe that Clabbert’s alarm is already activated upon seeing the dragon.

Shortly after, Ismelda and Merula will approach you. Merula will ask if it is a real dragon. Hagrid will affirm that it is, questioning the obviousness of her query. You’ll be curious about why they are there.

Merula will mention that they heard Hagrid talking about the dragon, so they came to check if it was true. Merula will note, that Clabert sensed danger and raised the alarm.

Upon realizing that Clabbert sensed danger and raised the alarm in response to Merula’s presence, you’ll advise her that Clabbert reacts to dangerous intruders, including her. She’ll quickly respond that they wouldn’t have shown up if she had known this was your plan. You will clarify that it’s not your plan but part of Hagrid’s idea for a Clabbert-powered alert system to enhance the reserve’s security.

Despite your explanation, Merula will laugh at the idea, calling it sillier than she thought. She’ll then suggest to Ismelda that they find a place to observe your plan. There are three different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

Hagrid will then caution Merula and Ismelda to stay away from the dragon, and after they promise to do so, he’ll suggest that you begin with your second Clabbert training session. Three stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Ismelda, Clabbert, and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions. 

Following the successful training session, you will have calmed down Clabbert, and he will no longer sense danger around the dragon, starting to laugh. However, the dragon will still be very angry because of Clabbert’s presence.

Hagrid will say he thinks it’s making Clabert feel better and that it’s important for Clabert not to see the dragon as a threat anymore. He’ll praise you and tell you to be proud of yourself. You’ll thank him, and then Merula will come up to you. You’ll ask her why she’s still around, and she’ll say she’s not done making fun of your plan yet.

In the meantime, you will receive an owl from Mr. Diggory, who will want you to meet urgently. Proceed to Hagrid’s Garden when you are ready. When you arrive, you will see Amos Diggory, Cedric, and Hagrid waiting for you, and you’ll greet them. This line will differ based on having met Amos Diggory before.

You will inquire from Mr. Diggory about the reason for his visit to Hogwarts, and he will respond that he would have liked to come under more pleasant circumstances, like visiting his son Cedric. However, he’ll explain that, regrettably, he is here officially on behalf of the Ministry of Magic.

Mr. Diggory will express understanding of Hagrid’s emotions but mention that the rules on the matter are straightforward. Curious about the rules, you will inquire, and Mr. Diggory will then convey that, unfortunately, he has some unfavorable news to share regarding your plans for a Clabbert-powered alert system. He will proceed to provide an explanation.

To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The only bonus progress action is tied to Mr Diggory. Prioritize this action to save some energy. 

After the explanation, you’ll find out that using Clabberts for alert systems is not allowed anymore. Mr. Diggory will share that in America, witches and wizards used Clabberts to protect their gardens from Muggles. However, it caused problems because Muggles thought the flashing Clabberts were Christmas decorations. To stop this, the International Confederation of Wizards introduced fines. Mr. Diggory will mention that he learned about your plan from two worried students.

After explaining the situation, Mr. Diggory will state that the rules are clear, and he must request that you stop your plans for a Clabbert-powered alert system. There are three options to choose from. The recommended option you should choose is the first one. In any case, all of them will eventually lead to the same outcome.

Afterward, Hagrid will apologize for not thoroughly checking the rules, even though Miss Blackbird had warned him about them. You will then inquire why, if Miss Blackbird didn’t know about his plan, she thought you were training Clabbert for something. Hagrid will respond that she likely believed you were training Clabbert for a student demonstration.

Hagrid will feel sorry for Clabbert and wonder if there’s a way to cheer him up. You’ll suggest making a demonstration of Clabbert’s skills to lift his spirits. Hagrid will appreciate the suggestion but seek confirmation from Mr. Diggory if such a demonstration would be allowed. Mr. Diggory will respond that he sees no issue with a demonstration as long as the intention is solely to enhance the creature’s well-being.

He will mention that having more time will allow him to spend it with his son. Taking that into account, you will propose a meeting later to plan the demonstration.

Go to the Magical Creatures Reserve to continue the story. When you arrive, you will find that Hagrid and Mr. Diggory are already waiting for you and Clabbert.

Hagrid will say that it is nothing so fancy, and you’ll jump in and say that Hagrid is modest and that he is a wonder with a magical creature. You will add that under Hagrid’s guidance, you were able to train Clabbert to react when it sees an unfamiliar intruder. You will also mention Miss Blackbird, who helped you a lot in that.

You’ll inform Mr. Diggory that Hagrid helped socialize Clabbert with another creature to help it adapt to its surroundings. Curious, Mr. Diggory will inquire about the creature, and you’ll reveal that it’s a Norwegian Ridgeback dragon. His reaction will be one of shock and surprise. This line will differ based on your previous choice.

Mr. Diggory will say that using a dragon to socialize with Clabbert is an unusual approach, but if Clabbert is used to being around dragons, then other creatures should not be a problem. 

He’ll appreciate the idea of making creatures familiar with each other, noting that creatures see things differently than you. Hagrid will add that you both talked about this before. Then, Mr. Diggory will ask you a question. There are two options to choose from. The correct answer is ”safe and dangerous.”.

He’ll then say that he understands how much effort you and Hagrid have put into Clabert’s training, and you’ll add that that is why Clabert needs to show what it can do, and it might cheer him up. Then Hagrid will suggest that you make a plan for the demonstration.

To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Hagrid, Mr Diggory, and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.  

After the discussion, you’ll devise a plan for Clabbert to demonstrate its skills in spotting intruders. The idea is for one of you to attempt to sneak past Clabbert, triggering its alert system. However, Hagrid will say that Clabbert knows you and will not see you as an intruder.

You’ll suggest that if Clabbert spots Amos and raises the alarm, it will showcase its true skills. After that, Mr. Diggory will inquire about your feelings regarding Clabbert’s upcoming demonstration. There are three different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

Mr. Diggory will mention that the next time you meet, he’ll attempt to sneak up on Clabbert to witness its abilities firsthand.

This line will differ based on your trust level with Clabbert.

Mr. Diggory will add that you’ll meet again soon at the shores of the Black Lake to carry out your plan.

Your next task is to reach the maximum level of trust with Clabbert. This may take a while, but luckily, this side quest is not time-limited, so you can take as long as you need to finish this task.

When you are done, go to Lakeshore. Upon your arrival, noticing Mr. Diggory is not present, you’ll deduce that the demonstration has likely begun. You’ll suspect that he’s somewhere around, attempting to sneak past you.

Trying to stop Mr. Diggory from sneaking past, you and Clabbert stay alert. You’ll express worry, wondering where Mr. Diggory is since he’s been gone for a while. Suddenly, Clabbert’s alarm goes off, signaling that it senses someone nearby.

At that moment, you’ll observe that Clabbert has successfully detected Mr. Diggory, showcasing what it has learned from your training sessions.

You’ll ask Mr. Diggory where he is and mention that you’ve been keeping an eye out for him. He’ll inquire if you were watching the water and explain that he attempted to swim past you using the Bubble-Head Charm. You’ll inform him that Clabbert sensed him and demonstrated his skills.

These lines will differ based on your previous choice.

Mr. Diggory will commend you and Clabbert for your abilities. However, you’ll notice Clabbert’s alarm going off again, leaving you puzzled about what could be wrong after the demonstration. Proposing to follow Clabbert, you’ll soon discover that the real danger is a Norwegian Ridgeback dragon threatening Ismelda, aiming to eat her.

You will see that Ismelda is very frightened, and you’ll propose a plan. You’ll suggest that you and Clabbert distract the dragon, allowing Mr. Diggory to safely pull it away from Ismelda. To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Clabbert and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

Fortunately, you’ll successfully rescue Ismelda from the angry dragon. Just as you breathe a sigh of relief, Hagrid will appear, questioning why you’re bothering the poor dragon. Ismelda will clarify that it’s not about harassment, and at that moment, the dragon will fly away.

Hagrid will seek an explanation from you, prompting you to ask Ismelda why she’s there. Ismelda will explain that after Merula and she reported your plan to the Ministry, they thought you would give up. However, seeing you with Clabbert, she decided to follow. She’ll add that a dragon appeared, seemingly wanting to eat her.

Hagrid will advise Ismelda to appreciate being alive, and Mr. Diggory will emphasize that she should express gratitude to you. He’ll point out that without you and Clabbert, saving her would have been much more challenging, and things could have gotten complicated. However, Ismelda will remain unwilling to thank you.

There are three different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

Mr. Diggory will remark that today’s Hogwarts students are less spirited than they were in his time.

You’ll agree with him and mention that Clabbert sensed danger, leading you to the scene. Additionally, you’ll note that the previous interaction Clabbert had with the dragon played a role in calming it down. This line will differ based on whether you own a Norwegian Ridgeback dragon.  

Mr. Diggory will say that Clabbert showed his guardian skills well twice. He’ll be impressed by your dedication to magical creatures at Hogwarts, even if your methods are a bit unusual. You’ll thank him for letting you demonstrate Clabbert’s skills. You’ll mention that although the Clabbert-powered alert system didn’t work out, Clabbert will do great with you and be happy. Hagrid will add that it’s all thanks to you.

This will mark the end of A Watchful Eye side quest. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 500 Experience Points and 200 Friendship Experience Points. You will earn some friendship experience with Hagrid for completing the quest.

In this thrilling side quest, with your assistance and training, Clabbert showcased its guarding skills, ultimately saving Ismelda from the Norwegian Ridgeback dragon, which perceived her as a threat to its territory. As a result, Clabbert has become a valued member of your magical creatures society.
