Chapter 12 – And Hello Magical Accidents And Catastrophes
Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Twelve of Year Seven of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. Previously, you reported to Moody and informed him about your assignment. You also returned the missing Portkey, but sadly, you couldn’t figure out why ‘R’ stole it in the first place. Later on, Amos Diggory invited you and your friends to congratulate you on a job well done. He even held a small celebration as a way to thank you.
After that, you were tasked with taking the Wampus Cat to Care of Magical Creatures. Once you’d done that, you went to talk to Merula. Unfortunately, she didn’t tell you much, so you were left with some unanswered questions. Afterward, Wilkie Twycross told you that you would be visiting Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. Needless to say, you were happy to get the chance to visit the new department.

Once you start the chapter, you will need to finish the first story task before you can access the assignments, so proceed to the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes when you are ready. Upon arriving, you’ll be able to interact with some of the characters by tapping on the speech bubbles above them. You will be amazed by the new department.
Unfortunately, Ben won’t share the same enthusiasm as you. You’ll remember him being excited about visiting the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes.
He’ll say he has a feeling you won’t be visiting the Obliviator Headquarters or Accidental Magic Reversal Squad. According to him, you will likely end up with some tedious tasks. There are three options to reply with. This choice won’t have a significant impact on the story, so feel free to pick the option you prefer.
In any case, you’ll remind him that both of you have been given an incredible opportunity. Ben will agree with you and choose to be a bit more open.
You’ll wonder why no one is there to meet you. Moments later, Mad-Eye Moody will approach, explaining that the Department Head is currently occupied and he’s covering for her in the meantime. His unexpected presence will surprise you.
It appears that he’ll be assigning you your first task. Ben will wonder if it’s related to the Muggle-Worthy Excuses Committee. Mad-Eye will clarify that he was planning to send you to interview Garrick Ollivander. You’ll promptly express your willingness to interview Mr. Ollivander, and Moody will decide to proceed with giving you your assignment briefing.
Attending assignment briefing requires earning five stars within an hour. Only one star is needed to pass.
If you are looking to save as much energy as possible, it is recommended to earn a single star and wait for the timer to expire. It’s also worth noting that there are bonus progress actions linked to Mad-Eye and Ben.
It seems like your task involves obtaining a statement from Mr. Ollivander about a wand that backfired, and you’ll also need to examine the wand itself. Ben will question how it’s connected to the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. Moody will respond by suggesting that Ben can opt for a task in the Muggle-Worthy Excuses Committee if that’s more to his liking.
You’ll quickly say there’s no need for that.
Mad-Eye will instruct you to report back to him once you’ve finished the task, reminding you to stay vigilant for anything unusual. Shortly after, you and Ben will decide to make your way to Ollivander’s shop.
Before going there, you can take care of the assignments since they should be unlocked now. Proceed to the Ministry Office when you are ready for the first one. Mad-Eye will inform you that a wizard has been smuggling Muggle artifacts.
It seems he’s enjoying selling enchanted items to unsuspecting Muggles. You’ll inquire if anyone has been hurt so far, and fortunately, there haven’t been any injuries. However, Mad-Eye will emphasize the importance of apprehending the criminal promptly. You’ll assure him that he can count on your help.
You will need to complete several tasks in order to finish the assignment. As usual, you can feel free to do them in any order you prefer.
While doing these tasks, it is recommended to pick the task duration that matches their stars requirements.
As always, focus on bonus progress actions whenever they are available, in order to save as much energy as possible.
As for the mini-tasks, completing them successfully will grant you some extra attribute points.
Once you complete all the tasks, return to the Ministry Office to report to Moody. You will tell him you’ve completed your investigation.
Mad-Eye will commend you for your good work, and to add to that, the Ministry will soon apprehend the smuggler. You’ll express your satisfaction upon hearing the news.
You will receive a reward for completing the assignment.
Head back to the Ministry Office once you are ready for the second assignment of the chapter. Amos Diggory will be glad to see you arrive. As it seems, several Muggles have reported seeing a dragon flying over Southwest England.
Needless to say, that’s not good news. Mr. Diggory will mention that the Ministry needs all the help it can get to handle the situation. He’ll ask you to research dragons and ensure that the Muggle world remains unaware of what happened. You’ll agree willingly to offer your assistance.
Completing this assignment requires finishing several tasks. You can feel free to do these tasks in any order you prefer.
While doing the tasks, it is recommended to select the duration that matches their stars requirements.
Prioritize bonus progress actions whenever they are available if you are looking to save some energy.
Successfully completing the mini-tasks will grant you some additional attribute points.
Return to the Ministry Office once you complete all of the tasks. Amos Diggory will be happy to see you.
Thanks to your assistance, the Ministry successfully captured the dragon. Additionally, all the Muggles who witnessed the dragon were subjected to Obliviation. Mr. Diggory will thank you for your help.
You will receive a reward for completing the assignment.
Now that you’re done with the assignments, you can proceed to Ollivander’s shop to continue the story. You will thank Mr. Ollivander for agreeing to talk to you.
Ben will say that the two of you want to talk to him about the wand incident he reported.
You’ll clarify that he recently reported the incident to the Ministry of Magic. Continuing, you’ll mention that you are currently working on tasks for the Magical Accidents Department as part of your school assignment. Mr. Ollivander will express his satisfaction upon hearing this. Following that, you’ll begin discussing the malfunctioning wand with him. Interviewing Ollivander requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.
There are bonus progress actions tied to Ben and your character. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.
Unfortunately, Mr. Ollivander won’t be able to remember anything about a wand misfiring. Ben will ask if you think that the memory problem Mr. Ollivander is experiencing could be related to the wand misfiring. There are two options to reply with. Since you can’t be certain about it yet, it is recommended to select the second option.
You’ll remember the way you traced the last spell Reg Cattermole’s wand cast, so you’ll figure out that you can do the same to determine what caused Mr. Ollivander’s wand to misfire. You will ask to see the wand in question.
Mr. Ollivander will mention that he was about to leave the shop briefly. He’ll inform you that Zenith Xeep is hosting a meet-and-greet at the Leaky Cauldron.
Zenith Xeep is apparently the most renowned opera diva in the wizarding world and has expanded into new ventures, launching a beauty and lifestyle business. You’ll ask Mr. Ollivander to search for the wand before he leaves the shop, but he won’t have time for that. However, he’ll promise to show you the malfunctioning wand after the meet-and-greet. You’ll suggest attending the event with him so that if he remembers anything about the incident, you can note it down.
Mr. Ollivander will agree to your suggestion, and shortly after, the three of you will leave the shop. You will need to wait four hours before you can continue. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.
Head to the Leaky Cauldron once the waiting time is over. When you arrive, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are interested to see what they have to say. You will notice that the place is very crowded.
Mr. Ollivander will say that the Leaky Cauldron is one of the most famous wizarding establishments. You’ll spot Rita Skeeter standing next to a fabulous-looking lady. She will greet you as soon as you get closer.
Zenith Xeep will be surprised to see you. Apparently, she will be fully aware of who you are.
It appears that Rita is writing an article about Madam Xeep, and she’ll wonder why you decided to attend the meet-and-greet. Following that, Ben will provide a straightforward and direct answer.
Zenith will ask Rita to introduce you to her.
Mr. Ollivander will take the opportunity to praise Madam Xeep’s performance, and Zenith will appreciate the compliments. However, she’ll remind him that she’s there to promote her newest business. You’ll then ask about the meet-and-greet.
Zenith will offer to tell you all about Xeep’s Luscious Locks Solution, expressing interest in the opinion of the younger generation. You will be unsure if you have time for that, and Ben will bluntly state that neither of you has time to discuss hair products. Mr. Ollivander will disapprove of Ben’s tone, and he’ll warn him not to speak that way to Madam Xeep if he wants help with the assignment.
In the end, you will agree to hear more about the Luscious Locks Solution. Learning about the product requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.
Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There is a bonus progress action tied to the bottle on the table. Focus on it if you want to save a bit of energy.
You’ll discover that Zenith’s hair solution also works for skincare, and according to Rita, the product works wonders. Madam Xeep will proceed to share a few words about her product.
Ben will find that hard to believe.
According to Zenith, various medical professionals proved that her product works as advertised. Even Mr. Ollivander will confirm it. He’ll say that he’s been using Xeep’s Luscious Locks Solution all week.
He’ll ask you to take a look at his hair and give him your honest opinion. There are two options to reply with. If you want to get on his good side, it is recommended to pick the first option. Keep in mind that Rita will write down your opinion in her article if you select this option. If you go with the second option, Rita won’t write down your opinion in her article.
Shortly after, Ben will ask Mr. Ollivander if all of you can head back to his shop and examine the malfunctioning wand, and thankfully, he’ll agree. Before you go, Zenith will gift you a sample of Xeep’s Luscious Locks Solution.
You’ll take one of the bottles and thank Madam Xeep for giving it to you.
Shortly after, you will head back to Ollivander’s shop. Once again, you will thank Mr. Ollivander for agreeing to let you examine the wand.
It appears he’ll still have trouble remembering it, and Ben will quickly remind him.
Shortly after, the three of you will look for the wand. Finding it requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, which is why you shouldn’t start this task with an empty energy bar.
There are bonus progress actions tied to some boxes, the ledger, and Mr. Ollivander. Focus on those if you want to save some energy.
Upon searching the place, you will stumble upon a strange-looking wand. Mr. Ollivander will take a good look at it.
After inspecting the wand, he’ll tell you that it is fake and provide you with an explanation for his reasoning.
You’ll ask if he had any similar wands. Mr. Ollivander will nod, stating that the wand in question is no longer in the shop. He’ll admit to having a hard time focusing lately, and Ben will assume that the wand misfired because it is fake.
You’ll then ask Mr. Ollivander if he remembers when he started getting forgetful. Ben will question if it was when the wand backfired, and Mr. Ollivander will say that it started happening about a week ago. You’ll then ask if anyone else was in the shop when the wand misfired, and he’ll struggle to remember. However, he’ll suggest checking his ledger for more information.
According to the ledger, the only other person who was in the shop was Madam Villanelle. Ben will assume that she could be the one who took the wand. You can choose whether you want to defend Madam Villanelle or agree with Ben. This choice will be referenced later on. Since there is no evidence, it is recommended to choose the first option.
Either way, you will decide to talk to Madam Villanelle and see if she can tell you more. You will need to wait three hours until Madam Villanelle is ready to see you. Since your energy is likely low at this point, it is recommended to wait until the timer runs out.
Proceed to Flourish and Blotts once the waiting time is over. Upon arriving, you will be able to interact with some of the characters and see what they have to say. Madam Villanelle will greet you and ask if there is something you want to talk to her about.
You’ll tell her that you want to talk about what happened at Ollivander’s shop earlier. She’ll claim she hasn’t been there in weeks. Ben will point out that her name was written down in Mr. Ollivander’s ledger. You’ll then inform her about the wand that misfired earlier.
Suddenly, she will remember it.
You’ll ask her to tell you more about the incident. Talking to Madam Villanelle requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.
Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus progress actions tied to Madam Villanelle and your character. Prioritize those if you want to save as much energy as possible.
You will learn that Madam Villanelle was testing out a new wand when it misfired.
She’ll explain that she’s been quite forgetful in the past week, attributing it to the long hours she’s been working. She will also mention using Xeep’s Luscious Locks Solution during this time. You’ll start to wonder if the memory problems experienced by Madam Villanelle and Mr. Ollivander are somehow related to Zenith Xeep’s product.
Ben will suggest that it could all still be a coincidence. You’ll respond, indicating that it’s likely not a coincidence, especially considering that someone did steal a wand from Mr. Ollivander. Your previous choice will take effect here.
You’ll figure out that whoever stole the wand is probably the same person who tempered with the shopkeepers’ memories.
Ben will wonder who would do that. There are two options to reply with. While this choice will be referenced later on, it won’t significantly change the story, so feel free to pick the option you prefer.
Your friend will point out that your simple assignment has quickly turned into a magical catastrophe. Now, it’s up to you to solve this mystery and find out who’s responsible.
