Introduction

Among all the magical creatures of the ocean, none are as revered and mysterious as the Ramora. Unlike the ferocious Sea Serpents or the cunning Merpeople, the Ramora is a being of peace—a silvery fish imbued with potent magical properties, said to bring protection and balance to the seas.

Legends speak of ships that were lost to tempests, only to be miraculously guided to safety by an unseen force. Sailors whisper of a glowing silver light beneath their vessels, a presence that repels dark magic and wards off those who seek to exploit the ocean’s riches.

The Ministry has long recognized the importance of these creatures, placing them under the highest level of magical protection.

Yet, recent reports have surfaced of illegal poaching—dark wizards seeking to capture a Ramora for its powerful magical essence. We have been tasked with preventing this tragedy. Our mission: Find the Ramora before they do.

How Would You Protect the Ramora?

Expedition Log

Evelyn Rosethorn’s Entry:

We set sail from the Andaman coast, following the warm currents that the Ramora is known to favor. The sun is high, and the sea is calm. There is no sign of danger—yet. But magic lingers in the air, unseen but present. A whisper of power just beneath the waves.

Lillian leans over the railing, murmuring a detection spell. Tobias, ever the skeptic, keeps a tight grip on his wand. Even Alexander seems tense. The Ramora is near. But so is something else.

Tobias Flint’s Entry:

The first sign of trouble comes at dusk. A ripple, too large for a fish, disturbs the water. Then another. Something is circling us.

Pirates. Dark wizards. They have found the Ramora before us.

The Conflict

Lillian Hawthorne’s Entry:

I spot it first—a glimmer of silver, faint but unmistakable. The Ramora swims just beneath the surface, its luminescent body pulsing gently. It does not flee. It knows it is being hunted.

And then, from the pirate ship, a net flies—woven with dark enchantments, glistening with cursed energy. Alexander reacts first, slashing his wand through the air.

The shield flares, intercepting the net in midair. The pirates snarl in frustration. Their leader, a cruel-faced wizard with eyes like coal, draws his wand. The battle begins.

Alexander Blackwood’s Entry:

Duels at sea are unpredictable. The rocking of the ship, the salt in the air, the ever-present pull of the tide—it makes precision difficult. Spells fly. Water erupts in steaming columns where curses miss their mark. The scent of burnt seaweed fills the air.

Through it all, the Ramora remains. Watching. Waiting. I realize it is not afraid. It is choosing. A pulse of silver light spreads from its body. The waves are still. The air hums.

And then, the pirates’ ship stops moving. Not because of an enchantment. Not because of a spell. Because the sea itself refuses to carry them further.

The Revelation

Evelyn Rosethorn’s Entry:

We have always known that the Ramora was powerful. But we never understood why. Until now. It is not just a guardian. It is a keystone—a creature upon which the balance of the ocean depends. Its very presence bends the laws of magic, influencing the currents, the storms, and even the will of the creatures that dwell below.

The pirates, realizing their ship is stranded, panic. The leader attempts to cast a teleportation spell—it fails. The Ramora’s magic will not allow them to escape so easily.

The Decision

Tobias Flint’s Entry:

The pirates surrender. They have no choice. Without the sea’s favor, they are nothing more than helpless passengers on a dead vessel.

We leave them behind, knowing the Ministry will handle their punishment. As for the Ramora… It lingers for a moment, watching us with knowing, intelligent eyes. Then, with a final shimmer, it vanishes beneath the waves.

The Ministry will be pleased. The Ramora remains free, and its power untarnished. But I cannot shake the feeling that we did not save it. It saved us.

Perhaps the stories were wrong. Perhaps the Ramora does not guide lost sailors out of pity, nor does it repel dark magic out of duty. Perhaps it does so because it is the ocean itself, given form. And we are merely guests in its domain.

Signed,
Alexander Blackwood, Evelyn Rosethorn, Tobias Flint, Lillian Hawthorne
