Walkthrough
Once you start this side quest, Hagrid will ask you to meet him in his garden, so go there when you are ready. When you get there, Hagrid will tell you he wants to discuss something with you. Apparently, he wants to thank you and your friends for taking good care of the creatures in the reserve. You need to earn five stars within one hour to complete this task. Three stars are required to pass.
There are bonus progress actions tied to Hagrid and your character. Prioritize those actions to save energy.
You’ll learn that Hagrid is planning to organize a picnic and it won’t be just another ordinary picnic. It will be a picnic for creatures and pets, too. He’ll ask if you like the idea. There are two options to reply with. If you like Hagrid, it is recommended to pick the first option.
Unfortunately, bad weather has been making things difficult, and if it goes on, Hagrid won’t be able to organize the picnic. According to Hagrid, a Thunderbird might be responsible for the storms. Apparently, that creature can easily create storms, especially if it is upset.
You’ll quickly offer to help, and Hagrid will suggest checking the storms for a Thunderbird. You’ll figure out you can use the telescope in the Astronomy Tower, and Hagrid will like your idea.
Unfortunately, Hagrid once accidentally bumped into one of Professor Sinistra’s experiments and ruined months of her work, so he won’t be able to go with you.
In any case, you’ll decide to go to the Astronomy Tower and find out if there’s a Thunderbird in the storm. Hagrid will thank you for being kind enough to help. The following lines will differ, depending on whether or not you’ve adopted a Thunderbird.
Your next task is to unlock the Thunderbird. To do that, you will need 65 Red, 50 Blue, and 50 Yellow Notebooks. While this is quite a lot of notebooks, at least the side quest is not time-limited, so you can take as long as you need to collect them.
Go to the Astronomy Tower when you are done. Another storm will start just before you arrive. You’ll find Alanza there, gazing at the sky. She will be quite surprised to see you. Apparently, she came to the tower to study. She’ll tell you that the storm suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
You’ll say that need to use the telescope to get a closer look at the storm. Alanza will remind you that students aren’t allowed to touch the telescope without Professor Sinistra’s permission. You’ll have three options to convince Alanza to let you use the telescope. This choice won’t significantly impact the story, so feel free to go with the option you prefer.
Setting up the telescope is your next task. You need to earn five stars within three hours to complete it. Three stars are required to pass.
There are actions with bonus progress tied to Alanza and your character. Focus on those actions to save energy.
After a while, you and Alanza will manage to point the telescope into the eye of the storm. Upon taking a look, you’ll spot a Thunderbird at the center of the storm.
You’ll decide to meet with Hagrid and tell him what you discovered. Before leaving, you will thank Alanza for helping you.
Go to the Desert Dunes area of Magical Creatures Reserve when you are ready to continue. When you arrive, you’ll inform Hagrid that his assumption is correct. You’ll also notice Holly Blackbird standing next to him. Apparently, Hagrid called her to help with the situation. If you’ve met Madam Blackbird before, she’ll happily greet you. If this is your first time meeting her, Hagrid will introduce her to you.
You’ll share with them that the Thunderbird you spotted with the telescope might be the one you adopted at the Magical Creatures Reserve. However, you won’t know why it’s causing the sudden storms. Holly believes something must have upset the creature, and she’s determined to figure it out and put a stop to it.
You’ll eagerly offer your help. However, Madam Blackbird won’t be sure if she should let you accompany her. There are three options to convince her. Each option will lead to a similar outcome, so feel free to pick the one you prefer.
Holly will decide to test your knowledge. First, she will tell you some things about Thunderbirds. You need to earn five stars within three hours to complete this task. All five stars are required to pass.
There are bonus progress actions tied to the Thunderbird and your character. Prioritizing those actions should save you some energy.
Shortly after you’re done, Holly will ask you a question about Thunderbird feathers. There are three options to reply with. The correct answer is ‘Magic Wands’.
Moments later, Madam Blackbird will show you her Shikoba Wolfe wand. It is powered by a Thunderbird feather, and it is exceptionally good for transfiguration. On top of that, those wands are extremely valuable and very rare.
In the end, Holly will agree to let you accompany her on the mission. These lines will differ, depending on whether or not you answered her question correctly.
Shortly after, she’ll tell you to meet her on the training grounds, so go there when you are ready. Upon arriving, Holly will explain that Thunderbirds can sense danger. She’ll propose the idea of flying into the storm to check on the Thunderbird. You have three options to reply with. If you like Madam Blackbird, it is recommended to pick the first option.
Following that, Holly will ask if you’re acquainted with the Shield Charm, Protego. You’ll nod, noting that you learned it in your fourth year. She’ll then inquire whether you’ve ever used Protego while flying on a broom. If you completed the Tournament of Clubs adventure, you’ll share that you had the chance to use the Shield Charm while flying on a broom. Otherwise, you’ll mention that you haven’t had that experience.
Shortly after, you and Madam Blackbird will begin practicing. You need to earn five stars within three hours to complete this task. All five stars are required to pass.
There are actions with bonus progress tied to Holly and your character. Prioritize them to save energy.
Both Hagrid and Madam Blackbird will be impressed by your flying. Still, your friend will be worried about you flying directly into the eye of the storm. There are three options to reply with. This choice won’t significantly impact the story, so feel free to pick the option you prefer.
The following lines of dialogue will differ, based on your trust level with the Thunderbird. If you haven’t leveled it up yet, Holly will advise you to spend some time with the creature. If you already leveled up its trust, Madam Blackbird will say that no one knows the Thunderbird better than you.
Your next task is to reach level 4 trust with Thunderbird. Since this side quest is not time-limited, you can take as long as you need to finish this task.
When you are done, go to the forest lake to fly into the storm. When you get close, Madam Blackbird will ask if you are ready. You’ll nod and say that you are. Following that, she’ll tell you to cast Protego before you go. You’ll take out your wand and cast the Shield Charm. Trace the wand movement on the screen to do so.
Flying through the storm is your next task. You need to earn five stars within eight hours to complete this task. All five stars are required to pass.
There are bonus progress actions tied to Holly, her broom, and your character. Focus on those actions to save energy.
Once you get close to the eye of the storm, you’ll recognize your Thunderbird. Holly will remind you that Thunderbirds are very intelligent, and she’ll tell you to ask the creature a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ question. You will ask the Thunderbird if it is sensing any danger. The creature will screech loudly. According to Madam Blackbird, the Thunderbird is indeed sensing danger.
You will then get to ask the Thunderbird a few more questions. There are three options to choose from. You can ask the creature all of these questions in any order you prefer. Through these questions, you’ll discover that the Thunderbird is responsible for creating the storms. Additionally, you’ll find out that the entire school might be in danger, and there is someone else involved in the situation.
You’ll decide to ask the Thunderbird to guide you to the source of the danger, but the creature will appear hesitant. Holly, perceptive as ever, will realize that the Thunderbird doesn’t trust her yet. In an attempt to build trust, you will suggest that Holly shows her wand to the creature. Following your advice, Holly will display her wand, and in response, the Thunderbird will screech loudly. Holly will deduce that the Thunderbird is now willing to lead you to the source of the danger.
Head to the forest lake when you are ready to continue. Upon arriving, you’ll stumble upon an unknown wizard. He’ll introduce himself as Prospero, conjurer of storms. Unfortunately, he won’t seem very friendly. Madam Blackbird will recognize the name and she’ll tell you there’s a character in a Shakespeare play, the Tempest, who used magic to create a storm.
The wizard will confidently assert that his storms will be powerful enough to attract a Thunderbird. He will continue by expressing his desire to engage the creature in a battle of storms. You’ll find this hard to believe, considering the Thunderbird’s ability to create immensely powerful storms. The wizard will feel insulted by your words, and he will prepare to attack.
Holly will take out her wand, eager to duel Prospero. Unfortunately, it will start going haywire, and she won’t be able to use it. In other words, you will need to handle the situation. The task window will display the recommended attribute levels and the cost of the duel. Hit Start when you are ready to begin.
The recommended attribute levels for this duel will always be similar to your own attribute levels. This will make the duel quite challenging. There are a few ways to approach this duel.
One tactic you can use is to constantly go Aggressive or Sneaky and use Depulso or Flipendo on every turn. This will allow you to win the duel in three turns. However, you will need a bit of luck to win using this strategy.
Another tactic is to go Defensive and use the Incarcerous spell. With some luck, your enemy will be stunned for two turns, which will significantly increase your chances of winning. After that, you can just go Aggressive or Sneaky and use Depulso or Flipendo until you win.
Still, keep in mind that Prospero has a lot of tricky spells in his arsenal. He can often stun you, which may put you at a severe disadvantage, so you will need a bit of luck to win.
After defeating Prospero, you’ll notice a sack near him, and he’ll mention collecting some leaves recently. However, Madam Blackbird will find that hard to believe. After giving it some thought, you’ll take out your wand and cast Reparifarge. Trace the wand movement to do so.
The spell will work and you’ll notice that the sack is full of Thunderbird feathers. According to Holly, they are worth a fortune. You’ll quickly realize that Prospero wanted to attract the Thunderbird and get it to shed its feathers.
With no other options, Prospero will decide to run away. Unfortunately for him, Hagrid will arrive just in the nick of time, preventing the wizard from escaping. Seizing the moment, you’ll ask him to reveal his real name, and you will learn that his name is Todd.
Following that, you’ll get the opportunity to ask him a few more questions. There are three options to choose from. If you want to learn more about the wizard and his plans, it is recommended to pick the first and the second option before choosing the option ‘I’ve heard enough’.
You’ll learn that his full name is Todd Cribbe. Interestingly enough, Corinne Cribbe is his wife. His plan was to use the Thunderbird feathers to create counterfeit wands.
Madam Blackbird will decide to take Todd to the proper authorities, and Hagrid will thank you for solving the storm problem. Turning to the Thunderbird, you’ll ask if it wants to come to the picnic, and the creature will respond with a loud screech.
The following lines will differ, based on your trust level with the Thunderbird. If you leveled up its trust, Hagrid will suggest having a picnic. Otherwise, he’ll advise you to spend some time with the Thunderbird to help it recover.
Your next task is to reach max level of trust with the Thunderbird. This may take a while, but luckily, the side quest is not time-limited, so you can take as long as you need to finish this task.
When you are done, go to Hagrid’s garden to enjoy the picnic. Once you arrive, you’ll notice some of your friends, and several pets and magical creatures. Hagrid will welcome you to the picnic.
Madam Blackbird will tell you that she turned Todd to the Ministry. She’ll thank you for everything you’ve done to help and Thunderbird will also express its gratitude by screeching loudly.
You’ll then get to enjoy the picnic with your friends. You need to earn five stars within eight hours to complete this task. All five stars are required to pass.
Make sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are actions with bonus progress tied to Barnaby and Madam Blackbird. Prioritize those actions to save energy.
Everyone will have a wonderful time at the picnic. Hagrid will wonder what part of the adventure you’ll remember the most. There are three options to choose from. If you like Hagrid, it is recommended to pick the third option.
Once again, Hagrid will thank you for helping him. Shortly after, the Eye of the Storm quest will come to an end. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 500 Experience Points and 200 Friendship Experience Points. Completing this quest will earn you some friendship experience with Hagrid.
That was one exciting adventure! You solved the mystery of sudden storms and helped Madam Blackbird apprehend the one responsible for it. And you also had a lovely time with your friends and magical creatures at the picnic.
