Introduction

Hello everyone. Here are some helpful tips and tricks to help you progress through the game.

Tip 1 – Don’t rush through the main story.

While playing the game, you will often feel the urge to continue the main story. While this is totally viable way to play the game, you’ll potentially miss out on some of the side content.

On top of that, completing side activities such as quests, assignments, and collectibles will grant you some nice rewards. Some of those include new spells, gear, increased inventory capacity, more Ancient Magic bars, and so on.

Tip 2 – Complete all assignments

During the game, you’ll often receive assignments from Hogwarts Professors. In general, these assignments aren’t too difficult, and in most cases, you will unlock some additional spells when you complete them.

Also, some of the quests and puzzles you encounter will require you to have certain spells unlocked, which is another reason not to skip the assignments.

Tip 3 – Collect Field Guide Pages

Each field guide page you collect will grant you experience points, so it is highly recommended to explore the world and collect as many pages as you can. This will ensure that you’re never under-leveled, which will make things easier.

Tip 4 – Complete Merlin Trials

Completing Merlin Trials will increase your inventory capacity. Since you can only carry 20 items initially, boosting up your capacity is immensely helpful. If you complete all Merlin Trials challenges, you will increase your capacity to 40 items, so you won’t need to visit shops as often to sell the gear you collected.

Tip 5 – Find the Ancient Magic Hotspots

Finding all of the Ancient Magic Hotspots will increase your Ancient Magic meter from the initial 2 bars to 5 bars. Needless to say, this is incredibly useful for boss fights and some of the harder encounters in the game.

Tip 6 – Rescue and Care for Magical Creatures

As soon as you unlock the ability to rescue magical creatures, you should start rescuing them. Be sure to get at least one male and one female creature of each type, and add them to your vivariums.

Also, make sure to go back to your creatures regularly to feed and brush them. This will grant you a lot of useful materials you can use to upgrade your gear.

Tip 7 – Upgrade your gear

Upgrading your gear can significantly increase your stats. As soon as you unlock the Enchanted Loom, you’ll be able to upgrade and enchant your gear.

If you are visiting your magical creatures regularly, you’ll have enough materials to upgrade your gear every 3-5 levels.

Tip 8 – Complete Challenges

Gaining experience in Hogwarts Legacy is closely tied with completing challenges. Every time you gain progress in one of the challenges, you’ll gain some experience. On top of that, completing challenges will often give you useful rewards, so don’t miss out on them.

Tip 9 – Upgrade your broom

Once you unlock the ability to fly on a broom, you will receive a quest called “Flight Test” from Albie Weekes in Hogsmeade. Completing this quest will allow you to purchase the first upgrade for your broom. This will increase its speed and improve handling, and later on, you will get to upgrade your broom two more times by completing more quests for Albie Weekes.

Tip 10 – Upgrade your Alohomora Spell

You will unlock Alohomora Spell during “The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament” quest. Once you complete this quest, you will be able to collect Demiguise Moons. You can only collect them at night, and once you collect enough of them, be sure to return to Gladwin Moon and he’ll teach you the advanced versions of the Alohomora Spell that can unlock level 2 and 3 locks.

Tip 11 – Grew magical plants

As soon as you unlock the Room of Requirement, you’ll gain the ability to grew magical plants. Some of these plants are used as reagents for various potions, while others can be used to help you fight enemies.

You can purchase the seeds for regular plants at the Magic Neep in Hogsmeade. Seeds for the combat plants can be bought at Dogweed and Deathcap in Hogsmeade.

Tip 12 – Stock up on potions

In Hogwarts Legacy, there are many useful potions you can brew. Wiggenweld Potions are the most common ones, and they are used to heal wounds. You can carry 25 of them, so make sure you have enough whenever you go adventuring.

Utility potions can be extremely useful, depending on the situation you’re in. Invisibility potions can help you sneak past some enemies, while Edurus potions will significantly reduce the damage you take (or even make you completely immune to damage while the potion is in effect). Focus potions will decrease the cooldowns of all your spells, which will allow you to cast them in quick succession. Lastly, Maxima potions will massively increase all your damage, which is amazing for boss fights.

Taking advantage of the potions can help you overcome some challenging encounters, so don’t forget to use them.

Tip 13 – Use your gold wisely

Early on, getting enough gold can be quite tricky. It is recommended to avoid spending it on anything that’s not essential.

Good way to spend your gold early on is to purchase one Potting Table with One Large Pot Spellcraft from Tomes and Scrolls in Hogsmeade for 1000g, as well as one Potting Table with Three Small Pots Spellcraft. This will allow you to grow most of the plants early on, so it is definitely a good investment.

To grow plants, you will need to acquire some plant seeds. Luckily, these are one-time purchases, so you won’t need to spend too much gold on them. You can purchase the regular plant seeds from the Magic Neep, and you will need 1350g for all four plants seeds you can get there. If you don’t have enough coin to get all of them, you should definitely get Mallowsweet Seed for 200g since you’ll need Mallowsweet to complete Merlin Trials.

Also, purchasing some potion recipes will save you a lot of gold in the long run. It is highly recommended to get Maxima Potion Recipe from J. Pippin’s Potions in Hogsmeade. This recipe only costs 500g, and Maxima Potion is probably the best potion to use for all boss fights and difficult encounters in the game.

Tip 14 – Open the Eyeball Chests

Throughout the game, you’ll encounter quite a few Eyeball chests. If you approach them, they will gaze at you, and you won’t be able to open them. The trick to open these chests is to stay out of their line of sight and then use the Disillusionment Spell to approach them without getting seen. Once you do that, you’ll be able to open them and collect 500g from each Eyeball chest you open. This should help you get a nice amount of gold early on.
