Hogwarts Harvest – Complete Guide for Players

Introduction

Ready to get your hands dirty in the magical greenhouse?
Hogwarts Harvest is a gardening feature in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery that becomes available after completing Year 2, Chapter 1. It introduces a brand-new way to grow magical plants, earn useful resources, and trade crops for unique rewards—all while designing your very own greenhouse layout.

But before you start potting Mandrakes or harvesting Spiky Bushes, let’s break down exactly how the system works and how to make the most of it.

How to Unlock Hogwarts Harvest

To gain access to the Hogwarts Harvest feature, you’ll need to complete a side quest called “The Outskirts Greenhouse.”
Once unlocked, you can access the feature through:

  • The Plant Care icon (bottom left corner of the screen),
  • Or by walking into the Outskirts Greenhouse on the game map.

Buying and Potting Plants

Once inside the greenhouse, it’s time to choose your plants and decide where to place them.

Purchasing Plants

  • Plants are available in the Plant Shop tab and can be purchased using Brown Notebooks or Gems.
  • The first time you buy a plant, you’ll use Brown Notebooks. Future purchases of the same plant require Gems.
  • Once you own a plant, you keep it permanently. It won’t die if neglected—it simply pauses growth until you care for it again.
  • Currently, you can buy up to two seedlings per plant type.

Pot Sizes and Placement

  • Plants come in two sizes:
    • Medium (Pink pots)
    • Large (Purple pots)
  • You’ll start with 16 available Medium pot spots.
  • To arrange or move plants, tap the Chair icon in the bottom left corner of the greenhouse.
  • Tap an empty pot to open your inventory and place a compatible plant.
  • To remove a plant, tap on it, then hit the Chair with an X icon. The plant returns to your “Unplanted” storage, where its health will still decline until it’s repotted.

Growth & Plant Care

Caring for your plants is key if you want them to grow and reward you with harvests.

Water & Fertilizer

  • Water is unlimited and free—use it whenever your plant needs it.
  • Fertilizer is limited and must be earned or bought:
    • Tap the Fertilizer Bag in the greenhouse once every 20 hours for 1 free fertilizer.
    • Complete Creature Expeditions for more:
      • 2h = 15 Fertilizer (3 stars)
      • 8h = 35
      • 16h = 50
      • 24h = 70
    • You can also buy 25 Fertilizers for 10 Pages via the Harvest Exchange.

Growth Stages

Plants grow through three stages:

  1. Seedling
  2. Bud
  3. Bloom

To continue growing, a plant must maintain its health:

  • Above 60/100 to earn Growth XP.
  • Health drops by 2 points per hour once the “stable” period ends.
  • If health drops too low, the plant stops gaining XP until revived.

You can apply 1, 3, or 5 Fertilizers at a time. More fertilizer gives more Growth XP, but the cooldown time between feedings stays the same.

Harvesting Your Plants

Once a plant reaches full growth, it’s time to collect your reward.

  • Plants must be at least 60 health to be harvested.
  • If the plant’s health is above 70, it will drop to 70 after harvest.
  • After harvesting, the plant resets to Seedling stage and must grow again.

Harvest Storage & Exchange

  • Tap the Harvest Storage icon in the top right (of the Plant Needs or Shop tabs) to view your collected crops.
  • Head to the Harvest Exchange tab to trade those crops for valuable items.

This is currently one of the most efficient ways to get Food (Creature Food) in the game.
Crops you grow—especially from frequently harvested plants—can be exchanged for food, making this feature a strong support system for Creature Care and Expeditions.

  • Exchange offers rotate weekly, so check back often to grab food, pages, or fertilizer.
  • Focus on fast-growing plants for a steady supply of exchangeable crops.
  • Pro tip: Always harvest and replant immediately to keep your crop cycle moving.

Pro Tips for Success

  • Prioritize Medium Pots: They’re more numerous, and many useful plants fit into them.
  • Check in daily: Just a few minutes of watering and feeding can keep growth on track.
  • Time your Expeditions: Sync your creature tasks to stockpile Fertilizer efficiently.
  • Use layout tools: Make your greenhouse both functional and aesthetic—tap the Chair icon to decorate and rearrange freely.
  • Don’t waste Fertilizer: Always make sure plant health is above 60 before feeding, or you’ll waste XP gains.
  • Use Harvest Exchange strategically: Stockpile crops to take advantage of rare food or book offers when they appear.

Final Thoughts

Hogwarts Harvest adds a cozy, long-term layer to your gameplay. It’s perfect for players who enjoy collecting, planning, and earning useful resources like creature food, notebooks, and cosmetics.

Whether you’re building your dream greenhouse or just looking for a reliable way to stock up on supplies, a little daily care goes a long way. Keep your plants happy, your fertilizer stocked, and your crops flowing.

Happy growing, and may your harvests be bountiful!
