Once you start the quest, go to the Hagrid’s Garden. When you arrive, you will see Barnaby and Hagrid waiting for you. Barnaby will introduce you to his uncle’s pet Fire Dwelling Salamander.

Barnaby will say that he is looking after him while his uncle Cecil is at St Mungo’s. You will get additional lines of dialogue if you haven’t met Cecil before.

You will get more dialogue if you’ve completed Halloween Feast Adventure.

If you completed the Halloween Feast Adventure, you will ask Barnaby if Fenrir is the reason his uncle is in the hospital.

He will say that his uncle is now recovering from a lot of dog bites. Your friend will explain that this happens often and that you should not worry.
Barnaby will add that he has known Vulcan since childhood and that he is fascinated by salamanders. He will explain that he wants to know more about them and that is why he came to Hagrid.

To complete this task you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass.

Like before, focus on bonus progress actions to save energy. There is one of those tied to Hagrid.

You will learn that salamanders die if they are away from heat and fire for too long.

Barnaby will explain that a magically heated rock can ensure that Vulcan stays comfortably warm, regardless of its location. Your friend will say that he wanted to ask you something else. He’ll explain that he wants to do something to make Vulcan’s time at Hogwarts extra special.

He will hope you’ll bring your salamander to keep Vulcan company. Barnaby will ask you what you think of his Salamander campfire idea. You can reply in three ways. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they don’t impact the story.

Hagrid will say that he has a place by the Black Lake perfect for a campfire, and he will tell you not to worry because he will ensure the fire is safe and contained.

Barnaby will tell you to meet him at the Courtyard as soon as possible, and that he has many ideas that you should discuss.
Your next task is to adopt the salamander. To adopt it, you will need 60 Red, 20 Blue, and 10 Yellow Notebooks. Your Magizoology level should be at level 3. If you’ve already done that, you can skip this part.

Proceed to the Courtyard when you are ready to meet Barnaby. Once you arrive there, you can check what your friends are thinking about by tapping the speech bubbles above their heads. Barnaby will thank you for finding a friend for Vulcan.

You will respond by stating that there is no problem at all, and your salamander actually wanted some company.

You’ll ask about his ideas for the salamander campfire, and he’ll mention that he consulted with Hagrid about setting off the fireworks, but was advised against it due to concerns about complexity and unpredictability. You will suggest that you can come up with fun things that are a little simpler.
Barnaby will ask you what you like to do around a campfire. You can reply in three ways. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they don’t impact the story.

Shortly after, your friend will tell you that he has another campfire idea, but it’s rather silly. You’ll be curious to hear it. Barnaby will say that he will tell you more when you finish the discussion. To do that, you need to obtain five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass.

Unfortunately, there are no bonus progress actions. Barnaby will mention that his uncle Cecil prepares the most scrumptious hot cocoa and that taught Vulcan to heat it for him.
He’d like to use this trick as well as it holds a special meaning for him. You will readily agree to join him in trying it. He will sadly note that his uncle only demonstrated this trick to him once, and Vulcan never tried it.

You will then offer encouragement, suggesting that there is a first time for everything, and he will become eager to try. Barnaby will inform you to meet him in the Great Hall later to observe whether Vulcan can perform the trick, and he’ll suggest that you bring your salamander with you.
Proceed to the Great Hall when you are ready to meet Barnaby. Once you arrive there, you can check what your friends are thinking about by tapping the speech bubbles above their heads. Shortly after, you will ask Barnaby how his Uncle Cecil’s trick works.

Barnaby will point out that his uncle Cecil invested years in training Vulcan for this task. You’ll then let him know that while time is a bit restricted, you believe in his skills. He’ll thank you for your support and he will promise he’ll try his best.

After that Barnaby will start the demonstration. To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. Three stars are required to pass.

There are a few bonus progress actions tied to your character, so prioritize these whenever you see them available to save some energy.

Barnaby will feel sad and start to wonder why the trick isn’t working, questioning if he might have missed something important. You will assume that the Vulcan may have been trained to respond to commands and ask if your friend remembers the specific words his uncle used to prompt the Vulcan to perform the trick.
He will say that his uncle never used to command Vulcan directly, but that he just gets up and asks everyone if they’re up for a nice cozy cocoa. At that moment you will see Vulcan perform the trick.

Your friend will realize that he needs to say the right words to get the Vulcan to do the trick.

You’ll tell Barnaby that now that he knows the magic words, he might be able to get Vulcan to do it at the campfire. Barnaby will say he can, and he’ll thank you very much.
Your friend will ask you if you think your salamander can learn this trick as well with a little practice. You can reply in three ways. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they don’t impact the story.

Not long after, Barnaby will mention that his uncle emphasized the importance of trust in his bond with Vulcan when teaching him the special trick.

He will say the same about your salamander and you, and he will continue practicing with Vulcan, while you head into the forest to assist Hagrid in collecting firewood.
Before you continue with the story, you need to reach level 4 of Trust with your salamander, if you haven’t already. If it’s already level 4 or above, this task will be skipped.
When you’re prepared, make your way to the Forest to meet up with Hagrid. It looks like the salamander is enjoying the new scenery too.

You will ask Hagrid how much wood he thinks you need to collect for the campfire. He will answer as much as you can collect. To gather firewood you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

There are bonus progress actions tied to your character and salamander. Prioritize them whenever they are available to save some energy.

After finishing up, you’ll ask Hagrid whether he believes there’s enough wood for the campfire. He’ll say that it’s a decent start. You and Hagrid will both hear some noises and you’ll be curious about who or what is lurking in the forest.

These lines will differ based on whether you have met Todd Cribb before.

Todd will order you to hand over the salamander. He will warn that if you refuse, he will summon ice storms to freeze you.
Hagrid will ask you how you want to deal with this. These options will influence the story in some minor way but it won’t make a huge impact.

After handling the situation with Todd and his departure, you’ll agree with Hagrid that Todd is indeed an unusual character.

Hagrid will praise you for dealing with the situation and then suggest that you should return to school before encountering another stranger.

Proceed to Hagrid’s Garden when you are ready to meet with Barnaby. Once you are there you will see him worried and ask him what the problem is. He will say that Vulcan is sick.

Hagrid will advise against panicking and he will be uncertain about Vulcan’s condition. He’ll emphasize the importance of diagnosing the disease and suggest that you closely observe Vulcan and take notes of his symptoms. To complete this task you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

Sadly, there are no bonus progress actions. You’ll find that the Vulcan’s scales look dull and flakey, and some are even starting to peel off.

Barnaby will ask you how to treat the scale rot on the fire salamander. The correct answer is “Chilli Powder”.

Hagrid will add that scale rot is a common disease among salamanders and dragons, but fortunately, it is easily treated by using Chilli Powder. Barnaby’ll be happy because Vulcan will be better.
You’ll be concerned and you will ask Hagrid if the campfire should be canceled. Hagrid will reassure you, suggesting that canceling isn’t necessary and that Vulcan should recover by then. He’ll also advise taking precautions to protect Vulcan from stress, just to be safe.

Barnaby will emphasize that your salamander must perform the trick because the campfire wouldn’t be the same without the cocoa-warming spectacle. You will agree with this idea and mention that you’ll need to train the salamander first.

For the next task, head to the Great Hall to meet Barnaby, You can check what your friends are thinking about by tapping the speech bubbles above their heads.
Barnaby will mention that everything is set to teach the salamander the cocoa-warming trick, you will ask him about Vulcan’s recovery progress.

Your friend will ask you how you feel about teaching salamander the trick now. You can reply in three ways. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they don’t impact the story.

Shortly after you will need to train your salamander. To complete this task you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

There are bonus progress actions tied to your character. Prioritize them whenever they are available to save some energy.

You and Barnaby will agree that you’re getting close and that the salamander seems to understand your intentions, yet something is missing. Curiously, you’ll suggest trying the same words as you did with Vulcan, and Barnaby will agree that it’s worth a try.
Barnaby will tell you to say the words that got Vulcan to perform Uncle Cecil’s special trick. The correct answer is “Cosy cocoa”.

You’ll succeed and your salamander will do the trick.

You will conclude that your salamander may have picked up the words during your demonstrations earlier. Barnaby will thank you because now you can also use your salamander for the trick.

Barnaby will say that it’s hard for him to talk about it and that he doesn’t have a lot of good memories with his parents. He’ll say that they never thought he had what it takes to be a Death Eater like them.

He will add that his Uncle Cecil is not like that. He will say that one day Uncle took them all on a camping trip, and everyone was there, even his grandmother, and that he served them all his cocoa.

Barnaby will tell you that Vulcan did his trick and that everyone was amazed, even his parents. He will say that he wants to try to recreate that experience with his friends at Hogwarts because he considers them like family.

He will say that you and the salamander have a bond of trust just like Uncle Cecil and Vulcan. The following lines of dialogue will differ based on whether you have a maximum Trust level with your salamander or not.

Before you continue with the story, you need to reach max level of Trust with your salamander, if you haven’t already. If it’s already max level, this task will be skipped.

Proceed to the Lakeshore when you are ready. You can check what your friends are thinking about by tapping the speech bubbles above their heads.

Barnaby will be very surprised because everything is as he imagined. He will add that he brought Cocoa from his uncle and also Vulcan with him. You will inquire about Vulcan and his condition, and he will respond that Vulcan is doing much better.
You will declare that the salamander is ready to heat all the cocoa you need, and Barnaby will bestow upon you the honor of bringing this campfire to life.

But before that, you will be interrupted by the Great Prospero.

Todd will say he wants revenge and your salamander’s precious blood. The following lines of dialogue will differ based on your choice in the previous task.

You will notice that his wand is broken and ask him how that happened. He will then explain that he dropped it and accidentally stepped on it, resulting in it accidentally breaking. He will say that he fixed his wand with Spellotape.

You will advise him not to use his wand, but he will not listen to you.

You will tell him that you tried to warn him but he didn’t want to listen. Barnaby will suggest you invite Todd to warm up by the campfire, and you will ask Hagrid what he thinks about it. Following that, Barnaby will instruct you to make a decision regarding what you’d like to do with Todd. You can reply in three ways.
If you want to forgive Prospero and join your campfire choose the first option. If you don’t want him at the campfire, but you want to unfreeze him, choose the third option. If you really don’t like Prospero, choose the second option.

After that, Hagrid will say it’s time to start the Campfire, and you will take out a wand and cast the spell Incendio.

Luckily, the spell will work.

You will say that one thing is missing and that is hot cocoa.

You will then see Salamander performing a trick.

Barnaby will say that you succeeded and that you now have everything you need for a perfect salamander campfire.

The next task is to enjoy the campfire. To complete that, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. Five stars are required to pass.

There are bonus progress actions tied to Tonks. Prioritize them whenever they are available to save some energy.

Hagrid will comment that your salamander campfire is very successful, and Barnaby will follow up by noting that Vulcan hasn’t had this much fun since his family camping trip when he was little.

Barnaby will say that you helped him revive a precious memory and share it with everyone.
