Hogwarts Mystery Mini Games
Introduction
Here you can find information about various activities you can partake in the game, such as Meal with the Friend, Gobstones, and Dueling. The basic features of each of those will be explained.
Hogwarts Mystery Dueling
Dueling allows you to test your spellcasting skills against various opponents. Sometimes, you’ll duel against some of the other witches or wizards, while occasionally, you will be faced against enemies such as animated suits of armor or some of the most dangerous magical beasts and creatures.
Within every world, within every story, there were wars. Sometimes when there isn’t any political solution, when words cannot do much, wars occur. In case of the magical world with Wizards and Muggles, there were two big wars. The First Wizarding War (1970-1981) and the Second Wizarding War (1995-1998). So in order to defend themselves, wizards learned to fight with new spells invented for combat.
In Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery your first duel will occur in year one, chapter five. It will actually be a training duel, but a duel is a duel. Your house perfect will summon you to come outside in the Courtyard and bring your friend Rowan Khanna with you.

First, the main deal before starting a duel, is don’t underestimate your opponent, in this case just look at what his/her Attribute Levels are. If you have higher Attribute Levels than your opponent, then you won’t have any issues defeating them. If it’s the other way around, if your opponent has higher Attribute Levels than you, you will deal less and take more damage.

When you enter the duel, you will be given 3 options (Stances) to choose. It’s like a rock-paper-scissors game. You can choose between Aggressive, Sneaky and Defensive stances. The other dueler is also given the same options.

In order to cast your spells, you will first need to win turns against your opponent in this “rock paper scissors” game of stances. So there is Aggressive(scissors), Defensive(rock) and a Sneaky(paper) stance.
- Aggressive stance will always win against the Sneaky Stance.
- Sneaky stance will always win against the Defensive Stance.
- Defensive stance will always win against the Aggressive Stance.

If you manage to pick the same stance as your opponent, no one will get to cast any spells, the turn will be over and the player with less Health will gain a small portion of Stamina back.

If you manage to overcome your opponents’ stance and win, you will get to choose a spell you want to cast depending on what stance you have chosen. There will be icons on the right side of every offered spell, that will show you what attributes that spell is using (hearth, book, shield).
If you’ve won a “rock paper scissors” with the Defensive stance you will get to choose Wiggenweld Potion that will heal your character for 2 turns. If you’ve won with the Sneaky stance you will get to choose between Rictusempra and Flipendo. Finally, from the Defensive stance, you will get to choose Expelliarmus. Throw Vial is the basic damage “spell” (you are basically throwing a rock) located in all of the three stances.
Finally, if you’ve won the duel you will win experience points used to level up your character.
Hogwarts Mystery Gobstones
Meals with Friends and Gobstones will serve as a fun and relaxing mini-games that will allow you to get to know your friends better and increase their friendship levels. This will allow you to eventually take them on some of your curse-breaking adventures, which will impact the story of said adventures.
Every student wants to chill out for a brief moment after studying, and relax with some non-school activities that you can do with your friends, or maybe just alone (depending on what you like better). In this case, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry should not be just about studying charms or potion classes. Every once in a while, you need to take a break so your brain doesn’t explode with all the new information coming in so fast, or if you just want to take your mind off of it and run away from reality. One of the things that you can do is games.

In this case, being a young freshman in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery mobile game you will be invited by your friend and everyday companion Rowam Khanna to join him in the Clocktower Courtyard in year one – chapter three.

Your character will be thankful to Rowan for inviting you, so you can take your mind off problems at school that Merula Snyde and Professor Snape have been causing you. So, what is a better way to relax than a game of Gobstones? Don’t you know how to play Gobstones? No worries, your friend Rowan will help you learn and give you the tips and tricks regarding this mini-game.

Gobstones is a mini-game that will require the skill of focus and precision. It is highly popular in the wizarding world. Gobstones are pretty much the same thing as Marbles, a game popular in the world of Muggles(non–magical humans). There are a few version of this game but the main goal of every game is to knock the other player’s marbles to a position that is not very good (sometimes it would be a hole, depending on the game mode). Marbles are made out of glass, while Gobstones are made of stone or sometimes even from some kind of precious metal.

In Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery your character and Rowan will be playing a classic type of Gobstones. The goal is to knock seven gobstones before your opponent does. They are placed in the middle of the field in a circular formation. The only thing you will be doing in this game is to distract Rowan and make him lose focus and miss the gobstones he is aiming at.

You will be given a series of sentences that you can pick every turn. In this particular game, your job will be to distract Rowan. The better the sentence you pick, the more distraction you will create, and it will fill your Diamond Metter (top–right corner). In this game, you will have 6 turns or 6 chances to win the game.

One of the sentences will always be faulty, one will be acceptable and one will be the best–given choice that will award you the most points, and by that I mean it will fill your DiamondMetter faster, and most importantly before the end of the 6th turn. When a player loses a turn the magical stones, meaning Gobstones, will spit the looser in the face with an unbearable smelling liquid.

In the end, if you’ve won or lost the game of Gobstones, you will earn Friendship points that can level up your friends and earn you rewards such as energy or gems (in-game currency that you can only get with real money). Energy is used to play the game, such as completing charm classes, and Gems are used to buy all kinds of accessories that you can’t get with normal coins that you earn by playing and completing quests. Important note, the higher the level your friend is, the higher the stats they will have, and consequently it will make them harder to get distracted.
Meal with the Friend

Like every school, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has its own cafeteria, and it is huge! Hogwarts cafeteria is located in the Great Hall. Great Hall is the first room at Hogwarts you will see as a freshman student while attending the Sorting Ceremony. There you will see a lot of candles hovering over four long wooden tables, and at the end of this huge hall, there will be a table for the Hogwarts headmasters that will be turned at a right angle of the student tables, so they will be looking directly at them while sitting.

In the mobile game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery you will be attending the Great Hall on a few occasions. Starting with the Sorting Ceremony and another few times while talking to the NPC’s, meaning your in-game friends like Rowan Khanna, Ben Cooper, Penny Haywood, etc. Those “hangouts” will be a series of side quests called Meal with a Friend.

The first time you attend one of this side quests will be in year one – chapter four with Rowan Khanna. You will talk about your problems with visions you’ve had in a previous couple of days.

In order to complete this side quest, in particular, you will have to earn 3 diamonds in 6 turns. Firstly, you will be asked a series of questions for which you have to pick one of the three offered answers. One answer will always be faulty, one will be acceptable, and one will always be the best-given choice.

If you manage to pick the right choice, you will be given the blue essence that will fill up your Diamond bar. As a bonus, you will also get some Attribute Points for your character. In the picture above, I picked the middle answer that was the best-given choice and it gave me a bonus Courage Points (icon shown at the end of the answer).

After finishing Meal with a Friend and filing the Diamond meter, you will be given experience points for Rowan or any friend you attended this side quest with. Leveling up your friends will grant you energy or gems depending on what level your friend is at.
