Chapter 5 – Time to fly

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Five of Year Four of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. Last time, you assisted Professor Kettleburn with one of the Bowtruckles. You got a nice Wiggentree that would serve it as a new home and you even got to name it!

In return, the Professor told you that the best way to enter the Forbidden Forest unnoticed is by broom. Because of that, you had some additional practice with flying since landing in the Forest is a very challenging feat.

Meanwhile, Madam Rakepick arranged a secret meeting with you and some of your classmates. Apparently, she wants to train you and take the most promising one as her assistant. She even had you duel one of the other students in order to see how good you are.

Video guides are available at our YouTube channel. Use the button below.

As for this chapter, you can start things off with the lessons since there is a waiting period of three hours before you can continue the story. Tap on the GO button and proceed to the Potions classroom when you are ready to begin.

Unlocking the Shrinking Solution lesson requires you to earn a total of six stars from the Potions classes. Feel free to pick the class combination you find the most suitable and hit the Start button to begin.

year 4 chapter 5 1030

As usual, tap on the glowing objects to complete actions. This will fill up the star meter and you’ll earn stars eventually. Prioritize bonus progress actions to save as much energy as possible.

Whenever you earn a star you will be given a mini-task. Completing it successfully will award you ten Knowledge points. Once you unlock the Shrinking Solution lesson, head back to the Potions classroom to attend it.

To learn how to brew the Shrinking Solution, you need to obtain five stars within three hours. Given that all of the stars are required to pass, you might want to have the full energy before starting this lesson.

year 4 chapter 5 1070

Do this one in a similar manner to the classes you took before and you’ll be done in no time. When you are done, tap on the Collect button to claim your rewards.

For the second lesson of this chapter, proceed to the Transfiguration classroom.

To unlock the Vera Verto lesson, you need to get six stars from Transfiguration classes. This can be achieved in several different ways, so simply take the class combination that suits you best and hit the Start button to begin.

year 4 chapter 5 1120

There isn’t much of a difference between these classes and the ones you had before. Simply try to focus on actions with bonus progress whenever you can since that will save you some energy.

And do try to succeed at the mini-tasks. With this, you could gain a considerable boost to your Knowledge attribute.

year 4 chapter 5 1140

Once you have all the stars necessary to unlock the lesson, head back to the Transfiguration classroom to attend it.

Completing this lesson requires you to earn five stars within three hours. As long as you start with full energy, this shouldn’t be much of an issue.

year 4 chapter 5 1160

Repeat the same steps you took in the previous classes and you should be able to complete this lesson without a problem.

When you earn the fifth star, you’ll be tasked with casting the spell. Trace the wand movement on the screen to turn the rat into a water goblet.

year 4 chapter 5 1190

Congratulations! Tap on the Collect button to claim your rewards and continue. Now that you’re done with the lessons part of the chapter, you can resume the story. Proceed to the Courtyard to meet Charlie and discuss your plans for entering the Forbidden Forest.

When you arrive, you’ll notice that you can interact with certain characters. Simply tap on their speech bubbles if you want to check out what they have to say.

Shortly after greeting Charlie, you’ll realize that you’ve been missing one crucial part of the whole puzzle – the broom. You can’t really fly into the forest without it.

year 4 chapter 5 1230

Your next task involves making a plan. To complete it, you need to earn five stars within an hour. Since only one star is needed to pass, this should be fairly easy to do.

year 4 chapter 5 1240

Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus progress actions tied to Charlie and Mrs. Norris. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

year 4 chapter 5 1250

When you are done, Charlie will suggest you ask Madam Hooch for one of her brooms. Hit the GO button and proceed to the Training Grounds for your next task.

Some of the characters there will be willing to chat with you. Tap on their speech bubbles to find out what they have to say.

When you ask Madam Hooch for a broom, she will tell you to see her after class. Completing it requires obtaining five stars within one hour. One star is needed to pass.

year 4 chapter 5 1290

The best thing about this task is that you can complete it with a single energy bar. Since it is treated as a class, you will be able to earn a reward for each of the stars you obtain. And not only that, but you’ll also get five mini-tasks, each with ten Courage points as a reward.

Once the class is over, Madam Hooch will ask you for the reason behind wanting to borrow one of the brooms. You have two response options. There are no consequences for either of the choices, so you can feel free to pick the one you find more appropriate.

Bear in mind that the second option gives you more attribute points, so you might want to stick with that one since you won’t get a broom regardless of the answer you pick.

year 4 chapter 5 1320

You will also learn about the Black Lake incident that happened recently

You will need to wait three hours before you can continue. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Head to the Library to meet your friends once the waiting time is over. When you get there, you’ll be able to check out what some of the characters have to say by tapping on the speech bubbles above them.

You’ll inform your friends that you failed to borrow a broom from Madam Hooch. Tulip will mention that no one is allowed to borrow brooms after the Black Lake incident. There is a rumor that a Giant Squid lives in Black Lake, and many students are afraid of that creature.

After talking about the Black Lake incident for a while, you’ll decide to figure out how to get a broom.

year 4 chapter 5 1370

This task requires you to earn five stars within three hours. Because only one star is needed to pass, it should be fairly easy to complete this.

year 4 chapter 5 1380

Sadly, there are no bonus progress actions available here, so you won’t be able to save much energy.

When you are done, Tulip will suggest that you simply steal a broom. You can react to this in two ways.

Both of the options are worth five attribute points, but regardless of what you pick, she will explain that you will be stealing those brooms from Filch, so in the end, you will agree to it.

year 4 chapter 5 1400

In order to enter Filch’s office unnoticed, you’ll need a distraction. And there is no better place to find one than Zonko’s. Unfortunately, you will have to wait for three hours until Tonks get out of detention.

Proceed to Zonko’s Joke Shop once the waiting time is over. When you get there, you’ll be able to interact with some of the characters by tapping on their speech bubbles.

You’ll then be able to choose an item that you’ll use to trick the caretaker. The interesting thing about this choice is that you’ll be able to pick between Stink Pellets and the item you didn’t pick the last time you pranked him, back in year three – either Fanged Frisbee or Nose-Biting Teacup. Both of the items are equally effective, so select the one you like more.

year 4 chapter 5 1450

When you ask the shopkeeper for the item you want to buy, you’ll be able to hear a funny story about it. After that, he’ll go into the storeroom to find the item while you and your friends look around. For that task, you need to earn five stars in one hour. One star is required to pass.

year 4 chapter 5 1460

There is a bonus progress action tied to Tulip. Prioritize it to save energy. Also, be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions.

Once you finish the task, Bilton will return with the item you requested. Next, you should proceed to the Great Hall to trick Filch.

When you get there, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above several characters. Tapping on those will reveal what they have to say to you.

For the next task, you need to hang around until you can get the perfect opportunity to place a prank. To do that, you need to obtain five stars within three hours. One star is required to pass.

year 4 chapter 5 1510

There is a bonus progress action tied to Mrs Norris. Prioritize it to save energy. Also, be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions.

Once you are done with the task, you’ll witness a rather comical scene involving Filch and a prank item of your choosing.

year 4 chapter 5 1550

Now that the caretaker has been taken “care” of, you can go and search his office. Tulip will be going with you.

When you get there, you’ll have to cast the Wand-Lighting Charm to illuminate the room in order to have an easier time searching.

year 4 chapter 5 1570

Searching Filch’s office requires earning five stars within one hour. One star is needed to pass.

year 4 chapter 5 1580

There should be a fair number of bonus progress actions available here, so prioritize them to save some energy.

year 4 chapter 5 1590

During your search, you’ll find plenty of brooms, but none of those would be functional since they have been snapped in half. The only thing left unsearched will be one locked drawer.

You will need to use Alohomora to open it and see what’s in there. Trace the wand movement on the screen to cast the spell.

year 4 chapter 5 1600

Inside it, you won’t find a broom, but another Black Quill. Your next task will be meeting with Rowan in Jacob’s room to see if that quill is perhaps another message.

You’ll need to wait three hours before Rowan is ready to meet with you. Proceed to Jacob’s room once the waiting time is over.

Rowan will be excited that you found another Black Quill, believing it’s the same type of quill that Rakepick sent to Ben. You will explain to Tulip that Rowan believes Rakepick is behind the letter and that Ben is her double-crossing minion.

You’ll then need to cast Reparifarge to untransfigure the quill.

year 4 chapter 5 1630

The spell will work and the quill will turn into another note. You’ll carefully read it and realize that ‘R’ is threatening to kill Madam Rakepick for investigating the Cursed Vaults.

Rowan will be surprised to hear that. Apparently, your friend’s theory of ‘R’ being Rakepick is not correct after all. You’ll be asked who you think ‘R’ is. You have three options to respond with.

year 4 chapter 5 1650

Each of the options will give you five attribute points. This choice won’t affect the story in any meaningful way, but it could lead to some rather interesting lines of dialogue, so feel free to pick the option you prefer.

Afterward, you’ll need to talk to Charlie and figure out another way to obtain a broom. Hit the GO button and proceed to the Great Hall.

When you get there, you can check out what some of the characters have to say to you by tapping on the speech bubbles above them.

You will inform Charlie that you found only broken brooms in Filch’s Office.

For your next task, you’ll have to discuss the situation with Charlie and see if there’s a solution you can find. This involves earning five stars within three hours. One star is required to pass.

year 4 chapter 5 1680

Sadly, there are no bonus progress actions here, so you won’t get to save much energy.

Once you’re done, you and Charlie will agree that the best option would be borrowing a broom from one of your classmates. You’ll have three options to choose from.

This choice will determine the next part of the chapter. Bear in mind that you will be able to obtain a broom from each of those characters, so the general outcome won’t be affected. Still, picking either Ismelda or Merula can result in some interesting scenes.

year 4 chapter 5 1700

Once you’ve made up your mind, proceed to the Three Broomsticks to meet your classmate.

When you arrive, you will notice that you can interact with some of the characters. This can be done by simply tapping on the speech bubbles above them.

Regardless of your choice, none of your classmates will be willing to borrow you their broom immediately.

You’ll have to do some convincing in order for this to work. Tap on the handshake icon to bring up the task window. It’ll display the recommended attribute levels as well as the cost of the task.

year 4 chapter 5 1750

Approach this in a similar manner to Drink Butterbeer mini-game. Simply choose the answers that fit best with your classmate’s personality and you should be able to finish this without a problem.
