Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Magical Birds of a Feather Side Quest of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. This is a creature-related side quest, and completing it will grant you some friendship experience with Hagrid.

This quest is available for students of Year 5 and above, and you will need Magizoology level 5 to complete it. Once you start the quest, Hagrid will ask you to meet him in his garden. Proceed there when you are ready.

Walkthrough

You will notice Hagrid talking to Professor Dumbledore about something important. By the looks of it, the Headmaster wants him to acquire some item.

Shortly after, Professor Dumbledore will leave, and you’ll ask Hagrid if everything is all right. He’ll tell you that the Headmaster gave him a very important task. He will suggest you feed Fang with him while he explains everything.

Learning about Dumbledore’s request requires earning five stars within an hour. Three stars are needed to pass.

There are bonus progress actions tied to Hagrid and Fang. Focus on those if you want to save some energy.

You will learn that Professor Dumbledore needs a new quill and he tasked Hagrid with acquiring the quill for him.

You’ll ask Hagrid about the important book Professor Dumbledore was referring to. Unfortunately, he won’t be able to tell you much about it.

All he’ll say is that the book is very important and that he needs to find a replacement quill as soon as possible.

You’ll ask if he has any sort of plan. Hagrid will explain that the book requires a special quill that can be made from the feather of a rare magical creature – the Augurey.

He’ll ask if you would be willing to help him. There are three options to reply with. If you like Hagrid, it is recommended to pick the first option.

Shortly after, he’ll advise you to look for an Augurey. You’ll decide to check if you can find one in the Magical Creature Reserve. You will need to unlock Augurey before you can continue.

To do that, you will need to collect 60 Red, 15 Blue, and 30 Yellow Notebooks. You will also need to have Magizoology at level 5 or higher in order to adopt this magical creature. Since this side quest is not time-limited, you don’t need to rush it. Simply take your time to collect the notebooks.

Once you adopt the Augurey, you will need to visit it in the Magical Creature Reserve. Proceed there when you are ready.

While walking through the forest, you will spot Liz. She’ll tell you she’s taking Sir Ribbithe out for a stroll. If you’ve completed The Quibbler: Fight for the Front Page adventure, you will get some additional lines of dialogue.

Liz will be curious to know what you are doing in the Magical Creature Reserve.

You’ll tell her you’re on a special mission to help Professor Dumbledore and that you need to get a feather from the Augurey. Liz will be surprised to hear that you’ve befriended an Augurey.

She’ll admit she never saw one of those magical creatures up close. Luckily for her, she’ll get the chance to meet your Augurey.

You’ll call the Augurey to come out. Moments later, this majestic bird will approach you.

Liz will be completely amazed by seeing the Augurey. She’ll say that she expected it to be sad and mournful.

You’ll wonder why she was expecting that. She’ll tell you that according to the old tales when an Augurey cries, death is near. She will ask if you believe that.

There are two options to choose from. This choice will be referenced later on, but it won’t have any impact on the outcome of the story, so feel free to pick the option you prefer.

You will wonder how to get a feather from the Augurey without upsetting it. After all, you wouldn’t want to hurt the creature.

Liz will suggest discussing the matter to find a safe way to get a feather from the Augurey.

Discussing ways to get a feather requires earning five stars within three hours. Since all five stars are needed to pass, you shouldn’t start this task if you are low on energy.

The only bonus progress action here is tied to Liz, so focus on her actions if you want to save a bit of energy.

Eventually, you will figure out that the best way to get a feather without disturbing the Augurey is to let Augurey lead you to its nest.

Liz will like your idea because there should be some feathers lying around there that you could pick up.

However, getting the Augurey to lead you to its nest won’t be an easy task.

Liz will suggest bonding with the creature and earning its trust. You will decide to go to the library to research ways to earn Augurey’s trust. Proceed there when you are ready.

Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are interested to see what they have to say. Liz will happily greet you once you arrive.

You’ll notice she gathered a lot of books, so you will ask if she managed to learn anything useful.

As it seems, she managed to learn one interesting piece of information. According to one book, Augureys are not an omen of death. The only thing that Augurey’s cry foretells is the rain.

Your previous choice will take effect here. Shortly after, Madam Pince will approach and she’ll say that she heard a frog nearby. You can choose whether you want to be honest or lie to her. If you like Liz, it is recommended to select the second option and cover for her.

Shortly after Madam Pince leaves, you will decide to read the books and find a way to bond with the Augurey.

Learning about Augureys requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus progress actions linked to Liz and your character. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

After reading the books, you will figure out how to bond with the Augurey. You’ll decide to take the Augurey out hunting for a meal.

Liz will find your idea brilliant. She’ll say there might be a chance that the Augurey will treat you like part of its flock and lead you to its nest.

Once again, Madam Pince will approach you and ask you to be silent. The following lines will differ, based on your previous choice.

Shortly after, you will decide to leave the Library and spend some time bonding with the Augurey.

You will need to reach level 5 trust with Augurey before you can continue. Since there is no time limit on this side quest, you don’t need to rush this task. Take your time, and eventually, you will complete it.

Proceed to Hagrid’s garden once you are able to continue. Hagrid will be happy to see you arrive.

You’ll tell him you are making progress with your new friend. You will then introduce your Augurey to Hagrid.

You’ll explain your plan to him. Liz will say that Augureys like to eat insects and fairies. Hagrid will happily say that your Augurey can find a nice meal in his garden.

Apparently, his pumpkin patch is full of bugs, and there might be some fairies as well. Shortly after, your Augurey will start looking for something to eat.

Hunting with Augurey requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

There is a bonus progress action linked to your Augurey. Focus on that one if you want to save a bit of energy.

You will notice a fairy flying around the Augurey.

After observing it for a while, you will realize that the Augurey is unable to fly. If that is the case, it won’t be able to lead you to its nest.

Hagrid will remind you that he has to get a feather for Professor Dumbledore as soon as possible. There are two options to reply with. These won’t have any big impact on the story, so feel free to pick the one you prefer.

Either way, Hagrid will advise you to visit Professor Kettleburn and see if there’s anything he can do to help.

Proceed to Care of Magical Creatures when you are ready. Both you and Liz will hope that Professor Kettleburn will be able to help the Augurey.

She’ll ask if you have any idea what might be causing the problem. There are two options to reply with. This choice will have a small impact during a dialogue later on, but it won’t change the outcome of the story, so feel free to pick either option.

Shortly after, Professor Kettleburn will arrive. He will be happy to see Liz and you. He will also notice the Augurey sitting nearby.

If you’ve completed A Helping Hand side quest, you will get some additional lines of dialogue.

If you’ve completed Into the Hybrid Lion’s Den side quest, you will also get some extra dialogue lines.

Professor Kettleburn will wonder why you wanted to see him. You will explain that your Augurey is unable to fly, and unfortunately, you cannot figure out why. Your previous choice will take effect here.

After thinking about it for a moment, Professor Kettleburn will come to a conclusion. However, he will decide to examine the Augurey just to be sure.

Examining the Augurey requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, which is why it’s recommended not to start this task if you are low on energy.

There are bonus progress actions tied to Liz and your character. Focus on those if you are looking to save some energy.

Upon examining the creature, Professor Kettleburn will figure out what the problem is. According to him, there is nothing wrong with your Augurey.

Still, that doesn’t explain why it is unable to fly. The Professor will decide to explain everything. He will ask if you know that Augurey’s cry has the ability to predict the rain. One of your previous choices will take effect here.

Professor Kettleburn will be happy to hear that you are learning about magical creatures, even outside class.

You will still wonder why your Augurey is unable to fly. Professor Kettleburn will explain that those magical creatures can only fly when it rains.

In other words, you will need to wait for the rain before you can follow Augurey to its nest.

Unfortunately, you cannot simply afford to wait, especially since Professor Dumbledore needs to get the quill as soon as possible.

However, you will get an idea that could solve the problem. You will decide to create the rain at Hogwarts. Liz will like your idea.

She will wonder if Professor Sprout would allow you to create rain in the Herbology classroom. You’ll decide to talk to her and persuade her.

Before you can do that, you will need to reach the maximum level of trust with Augurey. Since the side quest is not time-limited, you don’t need to rush this task.

Once you reach the max level of trust with the Augurey, Liz will ask you to go with her and convince Professor Sprout to help you create a rain storm.

You will happily introduce your Augurey to Professor Sprout.

She’ll remind you that Magical Creatures don’t belong in her classroom. You’ll say you are well aware of that. You’ll tell her you are helping Hagrid with a very important assignment for the Headmaster.

You will add that you need to create an enchanted rainstorm in order to get the Augurey to fly.

Liz will ask the Professor if she would be willing to help with creating the rain storm.

Professor Sprout will ask you to give her a good enough reason to do that. There are two options to choose from. Both options will lead to a similar outcome, so feel free to pick the one you prefer.

In the end, the Professor will agree to help you. However, she will ask you to help her in return.

She’ll explain she’s been having a bit of trouble with some Flesh-Eating Slugs that were eating her Mandrakes.

She’ll ask you to help her use some Flesh-Eating Slug Repellent to drive the pests away. You will agree to her proposition. Helping Professor Sprout requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

There is a bonus progress action tied to Liz. Focus on her actions if you want to save a bit of energy.

Once you are done, the Flesh-Eating Slug problem will be solved. Professor Sprout will thank you for your assistance.

She’ll then decide to help you with the Augurey. By the looks of it, the majestic bird will be more than ready to take flight.

Liz will say that the Augurey is probably sensing it’s about to rain. Moments later, Professor Sprout will take out her wand and cast Meteolojinx.

The spell will work as intended, and the rain will start falling.

Shortly after, the Augurey will start flying.

Suddenly, one of its feathers will fall down on a nearby table.

Luckily, you won’t need to follow Augurey to its nest. Liz will say that the creature probably sensed how badly you needed its feather. You will thank Augurey for giving you one of its feathers.

You’ll then decide to take the feather to Hagrid. Head to Hagrid’s garden when you are ready. You will tell Hagrid the good news.

He will be very happy to hear that. Liz will tell him that the Augurey sensed you need a feather. Upon taking a look at the feather, Hagrid will compliment Augurey.

You will wonder if Professor Dumbledore will like the feather. Hagrid will be quite sure of it. Moments later, the Headmaster will arrive. He will politely greet everyone.

You will tell Professor Dumbledore you’ve been helping Hagrid find a new quill. He’ll ask if you’ve managed to find a suitable replacement. You will take out the feather and hand it over to him.

The Headmaster will be surprised to see such an exquisite feather.

He’ll figure out it wasn’t easy to obtain an Augurey feather. There are two options to reply with. Other than some minor dialogue differences, this choice won’t affect the outcome of the story, so feel free to pick either option.

Professor Dumbledore will ask you to tell him all about your adventure. Recalling your adventure requires earning five stars within an hour. Since all five stars are needed to pass, it is recommended not to start this task with an empty energy bar.

There are bonus progress actions linked to your character and Professor Dumbledore. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

After hearing your story, the Headmaster will admit that you’ve exceeded his expectations.

You’ll humbly say you were more than happy to help. Unfortunately, Professor Dumbledore won’t be able to use the Augurey feather as a replacement for his quill. Hagrid will be very surprised to hear that.

He’ll say he thought the Headmaster was referring to the items locked in a secret tower. Professor Dumbledore will ask if he assumed that the Quill of Acceptance needs replacing. You will ask him about the Quill of Acceptance.

As it seems, the Quill of Acceptance is a powerful object used to record the name of every future student at Hogwarts.

You’ll suddenly realize why Hagrid was so serious about getting the replacement quill for the Headmaster.

Professor Dumbledore will say that the Quill of Acceptance is immensely important for the future of Hogwarts. He will go on and say that the book he was referring to was in fact, his diary.

He simply wanted Hagrid to grab him a replacement quill from Flourish and Blotts. All in all, the whole thing was just one big misunderstanding. However, Professor Dumbledore will say that your efforts have not been in vain.

He will explain that thanks to your determination to find a feather for the replacement quill, you were able to make a new friend.

Both you and Liz will see the wisdom in his words.

Hagrid will tell you how much he values your friendship.

You’ll say that you feel the same way.

Professor Dumbledore will say that things turned out just the way should. Unfortunately, he will still need to get a replacement quill from Flourish and Blotts.

Everyone will let out a hearty chuckle upon hearing that.

This will conclude the Magical Birds of a Feather side quest. You will receive 500 Experience Points and 200 Friendship Experience with Hagrid.
