Introduction

The Puzzling Potions event in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is an engaging and strategic event where players gather potion ingredients by completing Club XP tasks. This guide will provide a comprehensive overview of the event, including how to earn Potion Bottles, uncover ingredients, and brew potions for rewards.

General Information

  • Access Requirements: Players need to have reached Year 1, Chapter 8.
  • Objective: Complete Club XP tasks to earn Potion Bottles, which are used to uncover Potion Ingredients. These ingredients are then used to complete Featured Potions and earn rewards. Completing all Featured Potions earns the Grand Prize.

Earning Potion Bottles

  • Tasks: Potion Bottles are earned by completing Club XP-rewarding energy tasks in Classes and Story segments (Main Story, Quidditch, Side Quests, or Time-Limited Side Quests). Tasks such as ‘Search for Creature Food’ and seasonal decorating can also yield Potion Bottles.
  • Task Rewards:
    • Sphinx XP Tasks: Rewards pink Potion Bottles. Classes: Charms, Transfiguration, History of Magic, Astronomy, and Muggle Studies.
    • Dragon XP Tasks: Rewards yellow Potion Bottles. Classes: Flying and Defense Against the Dark Arts.
    • Hippogriff XP Tasks: Rewards green Potion Bottles. Classes: Potions, Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, and Divination.
  • Efficiency: Each energy task rewards one Potion Bottle regardless of energy consumption. Therefore, tasks requiring less energy yield more bottles over time.
  • Exclusions: Hangouts, dates, friendlies, and duels do not reward Potion Bottles.
  • Tracking: The number of Potion Bottles can be viewed on the game board or in the Backpack under the Character Profile. Unused Potion Bottles do not carry over to the next event.

Gathering Ingredients and Brewing Potions

  • Ingredient Boards: Each Featured Potion has an 8×7 grid (56 squares) ingredient board, accessible via the Recipe Book.
  • Ingredients Layout:
    • Ingredients are hidden beneath the tiles, and their shapes vary (L-shaped, T-shaped).
    • Players must strategically guess and uncover tiles, similar to Battleship.
    • Ingredients’ locations are unique to each player.
    • Use the Ingredient Chart to avoid unnecessary tile openings.
  • Potion Bottles Usage: Each Potion Bottle clears one tile of the same color. Some squares require multiple tiles to be removed, as indicated by the teal lines.
  • Gem Alternative: Squares can also be uncovered using Gems (20 Gems per tile).
  • Ingredient Collection: Once fully uncovered, ingredients are auto-collected, and their images are colored in on the board.
  • Potion Completion: After uncovering all ingredients for a Potion, trace a Stir outline to claim the reward.
