An Inky Giant Squid Part 1

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to Part 1 of our Walkthrough for An Inky Giant Squid Adventure of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. Hagrid’s in a bit of a pickle! Your giant squid has started releasing clouds of ink at an alarming rate, and Hagrid is stumped as to what’s triggering this inky outburst. Can you dive into this mystery and find the cause, or will you need to relocate your giant squid to a new habitat?

(Disclaimer: This Walkthrough contains the gameplay from the perspective of a graduate student. Since the adventure is available for students of Year 3 and above, the star and attribute requirements for certain tasks might be different for you, depending on your current progress with the main story.)

Proceed to the Open Ocean when you are ready. When you arrive, you’ll greet Hagrid and comment on how brilliant the place is, saying you can’t believe you’re still so close to Hogwarts.

Following that, he’ll mention that one of your creatures needs help. He’ll explain further that he was visiting this section of the reserve when he noticed your giant squid behaving strangely. It’s been spouting ink all morning, and he reckons it’s not common for resting giant squids to do that.

This line will differ based on how strong your bond with the creature is.

Hagrid will then say that you know your creature best, and he’ll ask if you have any theories about what might be happening with it. There are three different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

In any case, you and Hagrid will think that your Giant Squid might not be feeling quite at home and that you should do everything in your power to make it feel better. Shortly after, you’ll suggest exploring your theory and devising a plan. To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass. 

Bonus progress actions are tied to the giant squid and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

You’ll think that, to help your creature, you need to figure out what its favorite treat is, while Hagrid will mention that some creatures are very picky when it comes to their favorite treats. You’ll add that you’ll need help from a friend who can think outside the box.

You’ll reassure him not to worry, saying that you’re going to figure out what your giant squid’s favorite treat is and put an end to this ink-spouting mess.

Go to the Clocktower Courtyard to discover treats. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. You’ll thank Tonks for meeting you, and she’ll comment that you really know how to pique someone’s interest.

You’ll explain that your giant squid has been spouting ink non-stop. You and Hagrid think it feels out of sorts in the reserve, adding that you believe if you can feed it its favorite treat, it will feel more at home and the ink-spouting will stop. 

She’ll say that’s a great theory but admits she doesn’t know much about giant squids, so she’s not sure how she can help. However, you’ll assure her that you know she’ll be of help. She’ll then ask what the main reason was that you thought she could be of help. There are three different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

You’ll ask her what she does know about those creatures, and she’ll say she only knows that they live in the Black Lake. This will give you the idea that, since giant squids live in the Black Lake, students must have interacted with them and might know more about them. You’ll then suggest asking around to possibly find out what the favorite treat for your giant creature is.

To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass. 

Bonus progress actions are tied to Penny, Tonks, and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions. 

You’ll say that, according to Ben, some people call the Black Lake giant squid “the bane” of Hogwarts students, but Penny says the giant squid is semi-domesticated and quite docile. You’ll add that it seems like the squid likes some students but is mean to others.

Tonks will then mention that Fred and George Weasley told her they feed toast to the giant squid and that it loves it. She’ll also say that a few Hufflepuff students have done the same.

She’ll add that this aligns with your and Hagrid’s theory that the perfect treat could calm your giant squid down. You’ll say that this means you need to have a massive plate of toast ready for your giant squid. These lines will differ based on which year you attend.

You’ll thank her for helping, but she’ll say there’s no need to thank her and that she’s very happy to assist.

Proceed to the Great Hall when you are ready to prepare toast. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. Tonks will say that, unfortunately, she has lost the bread slices she had.

You’ll ask if it has anything to do with the feast currently going on, and she’ll then explain. These lines will differ based on which year you attend.

Tonks will apologize for letting you down. There are two options to choose from. If you like Tonks, it is recommended to pick the first option.

You’ll suggest trying to convince a few fellow students to give you some of their bread slices. To gather bread slices, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Chiara, Merula, Tonks, and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions. 

You’ll successfully gather a few slices of bread, and Tonks will say that now you just need to toast the bread. She’ll ask which spell can help you toast it. The correct answer is “Incendio”.

Following that, trace the wand movement to cast Incendio.

The spell will work properly, and your sandwiches will be ready.

You’ll then ask Tonks if she would like to join you in feeding your giant squid, to which she will, of course, agree. 

Go to the Open Ocean to continue the story.  When you arrive, you’ll introduce your creature to Tonks, and she’ll comment that she likes giant squids.

Following that, she’ll ask you what you like most about giant squids. There are three different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

You’ll say that you’re worried because the ink-spouting has gotten worse, and you hope you’ve guessed its favorite treat correctly. You’ll suggest feeding your creature to see if anything changes. 

To feed giant squid, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Tonks and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions. 

When you feed it, the ink-spouting will stop, and you’ll think you’ve succeeded and decide to celebrate and share the good news with Hagrid. However, after some time, your creature will start spouting ink again, which will upset you.

You’ll add that the creature having its favorite treat might have only been a distraction from whatever is actually causing the ink-spouting. Tonks will suggest that the problem might not be related to the favorite treat and that knowing the issue isn’t food-related is a victory in itself. 

She’ll then ask what you think.  There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Shortly after, Tonks will ask if you have any theory about what the problem might be.
