Chapter 8 – Ink Link

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Eight of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume One of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. In the previous chapter, Ruby and you investigated Gringotts Bank, where after much convincing Mr. Griphook, you were given the next clue, which is fraudulent cheques. 

Then, you headed to the Ministry’s Archives to see your friend Mr. Elderberry. Unfortunately, you didn’t find any useful information there, but you got the idea to check the ink the cheques were written with because you think it’s actually cursed, not the cheques themselves. 

Afterwards, you tried to update Flump on your progress but he avoided you as it was the end of his working hours. Seeing that you’re upset about it, Olivia shared some tips on how to deal with Flump and your job. Then Tonks came in and said that you should help your friend Andre who had a fashion emergency.

When you met Andre, he explained that he felt bad about his financial situation and that he was sad that he couldn’t afford what he wanted. After talking with Andre, he felt much better even though you didn’t help him with his financial situation. Then you suggested having a friendly meeting with your old friends from Hogwarts every week, and they happily agreed.

Proceed to the Flourish & Blotts to meet with Jacob. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. When you arrive you will greet Jacob, and he will thank you for coming.

You will ask him curiously what kind of research he is talking about. Then he will impatiently reply that he wants to figure out how to reverse Verrucca’s Conjunctivitis curse on his own. There are two options to choose from. If you like Jacob, it is recommended to pick the first option.

Soon after, he will say that he has a list of books that you need to find and will suggest that you go shopping together. To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass.

Unfortunately, there are no bonus progress actions. After you finish, you will comment that there is no lack of curse books and that your stack is as tall as you are. Jacob will add that it will take him weeks to go through all the books, and he will say that luckily some of them are in braille. You will offer your help and one book will catch your attention.

You will tell him that it certainly has nothing to do with reversing his curse.

Then he will ask you if you ever wonder what happened to your father. You can reply in three ways. If you like your Dad, it is recommended to pick the first option.

Shortly after, you will tell him that now that you are open with each other you want him to tell you something that interests you.

Jacob will be surprised by your question.

He will shyly tell you that they are just friends and that you are the one who reconnected them. There are two options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

After that, he will remind you to get back to work, and you’ll agree.

You’ll tell him that you will get back to him soon so you can start researching how to reverse the curse. Unfortunately, you will have to wait around three hours before going to research with Ruby. Since you are likely low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait until the timer runs out and let your energy replenish in the meantime.

Go to the Research Lab to continue the story. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. When you arrive, you will approach Ruby, who will tell you that she is quite happy because she is working on this case.

You will ask her confusedly if it is good, and she will answer you that it is more than good.

This line will differ based on your choice in the previous chapter.

Ruby will say that the people she interviewed do not appear to be connected to the cheques. She will also say that their main connection is that they are all quite wealthy.

She will also add that they said they did not sign these cheques, which will be very odd to you. Ruby will add that the situation may be even more strange and that the cheques are signed over to various companies, but she can’t find any information on any of them. There are two different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

Shortly after, you will tell her that you may have stumbled upon something.

You will tell her that it gave you the idea that maybe the cheques were not cursed but the ink they were written with.

She’ll praise you for thinking outside the box and say that the lab is the perfect place to examine those cheques. To do that, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start this task with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Ruby and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

When you’re done, you’ll say that the only thing strange about these cheques is the color of the ink they’re written on. You’ll add that under most lights it looks black, but when you look closely, it’s actually a dark pink. Ruby will follow up and say that it’s so unique and she’s never seen anything like it.

Then you’ll say that doesn’t seem like enough of a clue to say it’s cursed, and you’ll wonder how anyone could curse ink. Which will give you an idea.

Then you’ll ask her if there was a connection between any of the people.

So you’ll think it’s not cursed ink, but that it might be a cursed quill, and Ruby won’t be sure of your theory. Then she will ask you for your opinion on what you should do next. There are two different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

Shortly after, you will decide that Ruby will work on companies, and you’ll continue to research cursed quills, having an idea of where to start.

Proceed to the Break Room to meet with Callum. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. You will thank Callum for meeting you. 

You will jokingly say that you won’t mention that you beat his time, and he will ask you not to start about it. He will change the subject and say that he saw you at Gringotts.

You will ask him if he knows about the case you are working on, and he will answer that he likes to keep up with new recruits. Then you will inform him a little more about your case.

You’ll say that you could use his expertise to see if you’re on the right path, and he’ll happily accept that and tell you to tell him about your theory, and he’ll see if he can help you. To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass.

Bonus progress actions are tied to your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions. 

When you’re done talking about your theory, Calum will say that your theory is promising and he’ll agree with you that the cheques aren’t cursed, and the ink isn’t cursed. He’ll also mention that these cheques look legit, but the people who signed them swear that they didn’t sign them, which will lead to his conclusion that the quill somehow has the power to forge signatures.

You’ll ask if it’s possible, and he’ll admit that he’s not sure because it’s beyond his expertise. He’ll mention that such research would be time-consuming, and he’s currently focused on the Gringotts case. Nevertheless, he’ll provide you with some advice.

You’ll say that sounds like a job for your old friend Corey Hayden and you will hope that maybe she can shed some light on the history of the cursed quills.

You will add that Ruby is not really interested in your quill theory and that she has her own ideas. You will say that you have split up and that she checks the companies the cheques were made out to.

Callum will say that he thinks that Ruby is quite clever and will mention that she solved her case in one day, faster than you. Then he will say that it is unusual that she would be focused on businesses knowing this is a cursed object case. There are two options to choose from. If you like Ruby, it is recommended to pick the first option.

After that, you’ll tell him that you hope that one of you can come up with a solid lead soon and you’ll thank Callum for his help.

Unfortunately, you will have to wait around four hours before that. Since you are likely low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait until the timer runs out and let your energy replenish in the meantime.

Go to the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley to meet with Corey. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. When you arrive you will approach Corey and she will comment that it feels like it’s been forever since you haven’t seen it.

You will agree with her and say that life moves quickly after Hogwarts. Then you will ask her how she is, and she will tell you that she’s never better and mention that she works at her family’s antique shop in Hogsmeade. She will add that they are renovating now and you should stop by when they open.

You will be curious about what she is writing, and she will explain that she has just finished the first draft of a gripping tale and she will introduce you to the topic a little better.

You’ll say that it sounds familiar, and she will explain that it was inspired by real events. She will also add that she took some liberties with the story to add her own flavor. Then she’ll ask you what you do for a living, and you’ll tell her you’re employed by the Ministry of Magical Maintenance, which will surprise her.

You’ll mention that this is the reason you wanted to see her, explaining that you’re currently dealing with a particularly challenging situation.

You’ll ask her if she knows anything about cursed quills, and she will tell you that she works in an antique shop and of course she does. Then she will offer to share her knowledge of cursed quills with you.

To learn about cursed quills from Corey, you need to earn five stars within one hour. All five stars are required to pass.

There is only one bonus progress action, and it’s tied to Corey. Prioritize her actions to save some energy. 

After that, you’ll ask her to tell you more about the cursed quill that remembered everything it wrote. Corey will tell you that it’s really more of a rumor, but she believes that there’s some truth to it.

She will add that the wizard would gift it to people, and those who used it in their diaries would accidentally expose their secrets. She’ll then say that the Dark wizard would then use the information from the quill to blackmail those people. You can reply in two ways. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow but won’t impact the story.

Then she will ask you what the blackmailing quill has to do with your Magical Maintenance case. You can reply in two ways. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow but won’t impact the story.

Shortly after that, you will thank her for sharing her knowledge with you.

She will say that you could see each other again soon, which will remind you to invite her to the weekly meet-up with the old Hogwarts gang. She will say that it is a brilliant idea and that she will not miss it.

Proceed to the Workspace when you are ready to meet with Ruby. Ruby will approach you.

You will greet Ruby and tell her that you have progressed on your quills theory, but she will be too excited for you to hear her findings. You will say that you would like to tell her what you discovered about quills first.

You will tell her that you understand that she is excited but that you cannot talk over each other, which will calm her down and she will apologize and suggest that you share the case findings together. To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start this task with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Ruby and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

Shortly after, you will ask her if she found an informant who could help you with your case. She will say that she has an informant, which will prompt you to ask how she found him, and she’ll answer that he actually found her when she was snooping around for one of the companies. She will add that her informant knows who is responsible for stealing the money.

Then she will say that you have to meet with her informant immediately. There are three different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

After that, you will go together to Ruby’s informant.

Now that you have completed the story, you can start mandatory and optional chapter tasks. You need to complete one mandatory chapter task and two optional chapter tasks to unlock the next chapter. When you complete three tasks, the fourth one that is left will disappear.

Go to the Three Broomsticks to start the mandatory chapter task. You’ll meet up with Andre, who will tell you that he now works at Gladrags and has delved even deeper into the world of wizarding fashion. Andre will need your help finding ways so that he can look his best without spending too much.

You’ll need to complete several objectives to finish this mandatory chapter task. Feel free to do them in any order you prefer.

While doing these objectives, it is recommended to select the duration that matches their star requirements.

Prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points. 

Once you complete all of the tasks, hit the Collect button and return to the Three Broomsticks.

After you complete all the objectives, you can claim the reward in the ROCC Division section of the Wizarding Life tab.

Choose the optional tasks you like. You can do Magical Maintenance Cover in the Department Of Magical Law Enforcement which will give you Dragon Club Experience Points and Magical Maintenence Cover achievement in the Core category of the Skills section, Eavesdrop on Patrons in the Leaky Cauldron where you can gain Spinx Club Experience Points, or Organise Workspace where you can earn additional Dragon Club Experience Points.

Don’t forget to select the duration that matches their star requirements.

Also, prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points. 

This will conclude Chapter 8 of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume 1. You will receive 400 Coins and 2500 Experience Points. You’ll unlock the option to drink butterbeer with Corey at Three Broomsticks, which can improve your friendship level with her.

In this chapter, Ruby and you each made progress in your investigations, gathering important information. Ruby’s lead appears promising, but there are doubts about her informant’s credibility. The story gets more intriguing as you await the informant’s revelations and hope they’ll assist in solving the case. Stay tuned for more.
