Chapter 9 – A Beast Of An Informant

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Nine of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume One of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. In the previous chapter, you started researching how to reverse Veruca’s conjunctivitis curse with your brother. During your conversation, you also started discussing your father. Curiosity got the best of you, and you asked your brother about what was going on between him and Olivia. However, he clumsily avoided giving a direct answer and instead claimed they were merely friends.

After that, you and Ruby discussed the case. You brought up the idea that the quill with which the cheques are written is cursed, and not ink. This made you split up your investigation tasks. Ruby researched various companies, and you continued to research cursed quills.

Later, you met with Callum and shared what you found. He agreed with your idea and suggested talking to someone who knows much about the history of cursed things. You went to Corey to get more information. She told you about cursed quills, including one that can remember everything it has written.

Afterward, you met up with Ruby again to share your discoveries with each other. You find out that she has an informant, and that she is more interested in her informant than your leads, so after a brief discussion with her, you set out to interrogate her informant and see what you could do to find out what would help your case.

Proceed to the Forest Grove when you are ready to meet the informant. When you arrive Ruby will be a bit worried about the place.

You will ask her whether she is sure this is a place where you’re supposed to meet her informant about the fraudulent cheques, but she will be sure that this is the place. Then she’ll ask you for your opinion if this is the wrong place for a meeting. You can reply in three ways. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Shortly after, you’ll ask her where her informant is, which will express your suspicions, and she will tell you that she is sure that he is late. You will suggest that while you wait for her informant to arrive, you discuss the case.

You will add that you want to tell her more about your quill theory and that you also want to find out how she met the informant. To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Ruby and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

When you’re done, Ruby will learn about the cursed quill that remembers people’s signatures, and you’ll explain to her that that way cheques don’t appear to be fraudulent.

You will also say that they all have in common that they are signed with dark pink ink.

She won’t be sure how you can test it and she’ll ask you if Flump would like such tangible evidence. There are two different options to choose from. Both of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

Afterward, you’ll tell Ruby that your quill theory can put you on the right track to determining what a cursed object is. Suddenly you will be interrupted by a Graphorn who will rush towards you.

Ruby will attack the creature but unfortunately won’t hurt it. 

The Graphorn will nudge both you and Ruby out of its way and then run off.

From the looks of it, Ruby hurt herself, so you’ll be worried about her.

Go to the Reception at the St Mungo’s. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. When you arrive you’ll be very concerned about Ruby’s condition. You will wait impatiently for news about her, but after a while, Madam Strout will approach you.

Madam Strout will tell you that she has some details to share with you, but first, she’ll ask you how are you because you were part of that incident too. You can reply in three ways. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Madam Sprout will add that it is important that you are here and safe. Then you will be impatiently asking for an answer from Madam Strout about how Ruby is.

To learn about Ruby’s condition, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start this task with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Madam Strout and a man sitting on a bench next to Madam Strout. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions.

Shortly after, when you find out about Ruby’s injuries you will be surprised that she passed with only a broken arm and a concussion. Madam Strout will tell you that Ruby’ll make a full recovery.

She’ll add that you can never be sure with head injuries, and will suggest that Ruby take some time off work and avoid any intense activities, like fighting any more Graphorns. She’ll also say that she was quite surprised to see one of her former trainees in such a state.

She will add that Ruby is a very talented Healer and that she is glad that you are able to get her to safety. You’ll mention that Ruby saved your life and that you would be in bed too, if she hadn’t been there. Madam Strout will say that it really looks like her, to put herself in danger to save her friends.

She’ll want to let you know that there have been no updates on breaking the curse that blinded Jacob and she will say that they are doing everything they can, but they haven’t been able to discover anything themselves. You can reply in two ways. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Afterward, she’ll comment that it seems like your brother is adjusting quite well and you’ll agree with her. She’ll also say that he followed his orientation and mobility exercises and she will mention the woman who came with him.

It will awaken your curiosity again, but unfortunately, you won’t have the luck to find out who was with your brother.

The healer will say that Ruby has woken up and is ready to take visitors. Then Madam Strout will suggest you pay Ruby a visit. You’ll thank Madam Strout for her help and hope that Ruby is well enough to talk to you about what happened in the forest. Sadly, before you go to visit Ruby, you’ll have a waiting time of three hours.

Once the waiting time is over, go to the Patient Room to visit Ruby. When you enter Ruby’s room, you’ll ask her how she is.

She will say that you are not making her laugh and will mention that Graphorn knocked her fierce. You’ll tell her that you are very sorry and you will ask her how she is doing.

She’ll say she is better than she was, and you will mention that Madam Strout said she’ll make a full recovery. Ruby will be happy about that and will say that she is looking forward to her return to the case as soon as possible. She will also mention that you have not met her informant and that she does not even remember what happened in the forest, so she will ask you to fill her in.

To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within one hour. Three stars are required to pass. 

Bonus progress actions are tied to Ruby and Lamp. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions. 

After that, you’ll tell Ruby that you brought her to St Mungo’s as fast as you could after she was knocked back by that Graphorn and you’ll thank her for saving your life.

This line will differ based on your previous choice.

Then she will say that you are friends and partners and that, of course, she will stand in the way of the rampaging Graphorn because of you. You can reply in two ways. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Shortly after, she’ll say that she is glad that everything ended well in the end, and you will agree with her and thank her. Then she will say that you have talked a lot about it, and she will ask you what Madam Strout said about when she can leave this place.

You’ll inform her that Madam Strout said she must stay here until she is fully recovered, and she will ask you if you are kidding with her. At that moment, Chiara will approach you, which will surprise you both.

Ruby will ask you if you know Chiara, and you will answer her that of course you do. This line will differ based on which house you were in at Hogwarts.

Chiara will agree with you and say that she was surprised to see Ruby’s name on her list. She’ll also add that she hasn’t seen her since Ruby left the Healer program.

You’ll tell Chiara that she could certainly say that, but Ruby will interrupt you by asking if you think she forgot that you said she had to stay in the hospital. She’ll add that she has work to do and that she cannot just sit around.

You will reassure her that she got hit pretty hard by that Graphorn and that she needs to rest. Before Ruby can reply, Chiara will interrupt her and say that they’ll re-evaluate her tomorrow again and that she needs to focus on getting better and Ruby will add that she can’t believe she was benched by some ornery Graphorn.

Chiara will warn Ruby not to try to run away because she’ll notice. Afterward, Chiara will go to finish her tasks, and you’ll go after her, suggesting that the two of you should catch up.

Proceed to the Hospital Ward when you are ready. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. You will approach to Chiara.

She’ll say that she is also glad and that she did not expect to see Ruby and you today, prompting you to ask if she and Ruby are friends. Chiara’ll explain that they were in the same program and that they spoke occasionally. She’ll also mention that they used to study together and that Ruby is very smart.

Then she will suggest that you catch up. To catch up with Chiara, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start this task with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to the Pumpkin-headed patient and Chiara. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.

When you’re done, you’ll tell her that you’re glad she’s enjoying her time at St Mungo’s and that she certainly seems to fit right in.

You’ll be a little confused because of the twelve-hour work, but she will say that it is not so bad once you get used to it, adding that even with the strange hours, she enjoys treating her patients. She’ll say that it is her favorite part of her job.

Then she will ask you what is your favorite part of the job. There are three different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

Afterward, she’ll say that she is glad that you enjoy your job and will add that not everyone is that lucky.

She’ll explain that they both live in Godric’s Hollow and that they run into each other sometimes. These lines will differ based on where you live.

Following that, she will inform you that her shift is about to end.

You will tell her that she is right and that after Ruby recovers, you will suggest that you all get together.

Unfortunately, you will have to wait around four hours before going to meet with your friends. Since you are likely low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait until the timer runs out and let your energy replenish.

Go to the Hog’s Head Inn to get together with your friends. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say.
Before you greet everyone and thank them for coming, Merula will interrupt you by making a scene.

She’ll tell the man who spilled the beer to get out of there before she blows him to pieces. Shortly after, you will ask her what happened, and she will explain that she is now working here since she got sacked from Zonko’s thanks to you. There are two options to reply. If you like Merula, it is recommended to pick the second option.

After you have learned what Merula does, you will ask the others what they do. To chat with your friends, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. 

Sadly there are not bonus progress actions. After you finish, you will say that everyone’s had their share of wins and losses since you last met. Merula will add that she would hardly consider working in a goat pen a victory, and Tulip will say that she should never underestimate the goats. You’ll interrupt their discussion and tell Merula that she quickly found another job after being fired from Zonko’s.

Merula will respond by confidently saying that she’s Snyde, indicating her determination. You’ll remark that it seems like everyone has embraced adulthood, which will prompt Tulip to remember that she needs to sort out her payment arrangements with Bilton. Afterward, Merula will congratulate everyone for their achievements in life.

She’ll add that she has to get back to work now, which will remind you that you need to update Flump on what happened to Ruby.

Now that you have completed the story, you can start mandatory and optional chapter tasks. You need to complete one mandatory chapter task and two optional chapter tasks to unlock the next chapter. When you complete three tasks, the fourth one that is left will disappear.

Go to the Three Broomstick to start the mandatory chapter task. You’ll meet up with Corey. She will ask you to help her find inspiration for her stories, and you will suggest that you visit some interesting place that would help Corey find inspiration.

You’ll need to complete several objectives to finish this mandatory chapter task. Feel free to do them in any order you prefer. The “Take in Knockturn Alley” objective will give you Auror Experience Points.

While doing these objectives, it is recommended to select the duration that matches their star requirements.

Prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all the mini-tasks to earn additional attribute points. 

Once you complete all of the tasks, hit the Collect button and return to the Three Broomsticks.

After you complete all the objectives, you can claim the reward in the ROCC Division section of the Wizarding Life tab.

Choose the optional tasks you like. You can Host a Friend which will give you Hippogriff Club Experience Points, Research the Topic at the Ministry Archive where you can gain Spinx Club Experience Points, and Visit Hagrid which will give you Hippogriff Club Experience Points. Don’t forget to select the duration that matches their star requirements.

Also, prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all the mini-tasks to earn additional attribute points. 

This will conclude Chapter 9 of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume 1. You will receive 400 Coins and 2500 Experience Points.

In this chapter, you faced an attack from a Graphorn that struck Ruby, injuring her. Fortunately, she managed to escape with minor injuries and has since been on the path to recovery. You also reunited with some old friends from Hogwarts. Will Ruby make a swift recovery? When she be able to return to the case? What will Flump have to say about it?
