Chapter 10 – The Wampus Cat’s Out Of The Bag
Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Ten of Year Seven of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. During the previous chapter, you went to report to Mad-Eye Moody. Shortly after you were done, Wilkie Twycross arrived to congratulate Tonks and you on a job well done. He informed you that you’d be going to the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. Needless to say, you were incredibly excited about it.
Once you got there, you met some of your friends. Amos Diggory decided to split the four of you into two teams, and he gave each team an assignment. You and Liz were tasked with investigating some creature sightings in Hogsmeade. When you got to Hogsmeade Train Station, you met Dolores Umbridge, who was attacked by an unknown magical creature.
You also learned that a Hogwarts student was attacked, so you rushed to the Hospital Wings to see if one of your friends got injured. It turned out that Ismelda was the victim of the attack, and much like Madam Umbridge, she couldn’t recall the details of the attack. You decided to do some research, and eventually, you figured out that a Wampus Cat was behind the attacks, so you decided to report to Mr. Diggory.

But before that, you should take care of the lessons and assignments. Proceed to the History of Magic classroom when you are ready. To unlock the Alchemy in Medieval Europe lesson, you’ll need to obtain a total of nine stars from the History of Magic classes. Select the class duration suitable to your liking, and hit Start when you are ready to begin.
As usual, focus on completing bonus progress actions whenever they are available. That way, you should be able to save some energy.
Try to complete all of the mini-tasks successfully to earn some extra Knowledge points.
Return to the classroom once you acquire enough stars to unlock the lesson. To complete the Alchemy in Medieval Europe lesson, you will need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.
During this lesson, you will be asked some questions about Alchemy in Medieval Europe.
Once you are done with the lesson, head to the Ministry Office to start the assignment. Mad-Eye will say he has an important task for you.
He’ll tell you that the new Minister for Magic wants a report on transportation in the Wizarding World.
You’ll accept the assignment immediately.
There are several tasks you need to finish in order to complete this assignment. You can feel free to do them in any order you prefer.
While doing these, it is recommended to select the task duration that will match the stars requirement.
Focus on bonus progress actions to save as much energy as possible.
Each mini-task you successfully complete will earn you some attribute points.
Head back to the Ministry Office once you complete all of the tasks. Mad-Eye will ask if you’ve completed your investigation on magical transportation.
Moody will be curious to hear what you’ve learned, and you will quickly sum up all the work you’ve done on the assignment.
Following that, Mad-Eye will congratulate you on a job well done. Now that you’re done with the assignment, you can continue the story.
Proceed to the Department of Magical Creature Regulation when you are ready. Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some characters. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say. You’ll greet Mr. Diggory and say you’ve arrived to report on the Hogsmeade creature sightings.
He’ll be happy to hear that and inform you that Charlie is done with his Niffler-related tasks, so he’ll be able to join your investigation. Your Gryffindor friend will look forward to working with you. Mr. Diggory will then ask you to tell him what you’ve learned so far.
You’ll start by sharing your encounter with Madam Umbridge at Hogsmeade Train Station. After informing him that a Hogwarts student was also a victim of a similar attack, Charlie will immediately ask if any of his siblings got injured. You’ll say that Ismelda Murk was the one who was attacked by the creature.
You’ll go on and say that you and Liz also did some research in the Library. Informing Mr. Diggory that the creature responsible for the attacks is most likely a Wampus Cat, he will be very surprised to hear that.
Charlie will ask if Wampus Cats are able to use the powers of hypnosis and Legilimency. You’ll nod and say that Liz and you learned that at the library, which is likely the reason why Madam Umbridge and Ismelda couldn’t remember the details of the attack. Mr. Diggory will then ask Charlie and you to go through the Ministry accident reports and see if you can find any mention of a Wampus Cat there.
In the meantime, he’ll talk to the Head of the Beast Division about the whole situation. Once he leaves, Charlie and you’ll start going through Ministry accident reports. Searching Ministry reports requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.
Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus progress actions tied to your character, Charlie, and a nearby Ministry Wizard. Focus on those if you want to save some energy.
Unfortunately, you won’t find anything about Wampus Cats. However, there will be quite a few reports mentioning Silvanus Kettleburn. You’ll decide to talk to Professor Kettleburn and see if there’s anything he can tell you about Wampus Cats.
Proceed to the Care of Magical Creatures when you are ready. Professor Kettleburn will happily greet Charlie and you.
You’ll ask if you can have a moment of his time to discuss Wampus Cats. The Professor, delighted to share his knowledge, will express curiosity about your research motives. You’ll explain that it is part of your Ministry of Magic assignment.
Moreover, you’ll note that his name was mentioned in the reports you’ve read on dangerous magical creatures. He’ll reveal that he frequently consults with the Beast Division of the Magical Creatures Department.
Charlie will mention that you two have been assigned to the Department for the Regulation of Magical Creatures with Amos Diggory. Professor Kettleburn, pleased with this news, will assume that Mr. Diggory has assigned you to investigate Wampus cats. Confirming this assumption, you will explain that the cat Wampus is probably responsible for the attacks of the creatures in Hogsmeade.
Charlie will then emphasize the need to find a way to capture it. Fortunately, the professor will agree to help you, suggesting that you can practice by catching Kneazles. In addition, he’ll agree to answer all your questions about catching dangerous creatures. Catching Kneazles requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.
There are bonus progress actions linked to some of the Kneazles and a bag of creature food. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.
Once you are done, all of the Kneazles will be gathered up.
Professor Kettleburn will offer advice, suggesting that you keep your distance when attempting to capture the Wampus Cat. He’ll also mention that you can lure it out with a snack. Expressing uncertainty about what Wampus Cats like to eat, you’ll admit your lack of knowledge.
The professor will respond by stating that any large creature would be enticed by a Niffler as a snack. Charlie will express surprise upon hearing this information. There are two options for you to react with. This choice will be referenced later on, but it won’t change the story in any significant way, so feel free to pick whichever option you prefer.
Professor Kettleburn will advise that you only need to use the Niffler as bait, ensuring it shouldn’t get harmed during the capture of the Wampus Cat. You’ll nod, assuring him that you will try your best to be extra careful. The Professor will emphasize extreme caution around Wampus Cats, emphasizing their dangerous nature.
Both you and Charlie will express gratitude for the information. Before leaving, you’ll ask Charlie if there’s a way to ensure the safety of everyone during the Wampus Cat capture, expressing a concern for avoiding injuries.
Additionally, you’ll express your desire not to disappoint Mr. Diggory. Charlie will point out the value of having Mr. Diggory as a mentor for future job opportunities. Regardless, you will decide to head back to the Department of Magical Creature Regulation and formulate a plan with Liz.
You will need to wait three hours until she’s ready to meet with you. As always, it is recommended to wait until the timer expires, since the chapter is not time-limited.
Proceed to the Department of Magical Creature Regulation once the waiting time is over. Upon arriving, you will be able to interact with some of the characters by tapping on the speech bubbles above them. Liz will say that Charlie told you that the two of you talked to Professor Kettleburn about capturing large beasts.
She’ll ask if you managed to learn anything important. You’ll inform her that using a Niffler would make it easy to entice a Wampus Cat. Your previous choice will be referenced here.
Liz will definitely not like the idea.
She’ll refuse to help you if you decide to use Niffler as bait. There are two options for trying to convince her. Each of these will end up with a similar outcome, so feel free to pick the one you prefer.
You’ll assure Liz that you won’t allow any harm to befall the Niffler. Outlining your strategy, you’ll explain your intention to cast the Stunning Charm before the Wampus Cat approaches too closely.
In the end, she will agree to help you. Still, you will need to come up with a solid plan in order to make sure nothing goes sideways. Creating a plan requires earning five stars within three hours. Only one star is needed to pass.
If you are looking to save as much energy as possible, it is recommended to earn a single star and wait for the timer to run out. It is also worth noting that there is a bonus progress action tied to your character.
When you finish discussing the plan, you’ll review it once more. Initially, your task is to find a Niffler. Charlie will be optimistic that you can lure one using a Golden Snitch. Once you acquire the Niffler, the plan involves using it to attract the Wampus Cat. Simultaneously, you’ll cast the Stunning Charm as soon as it appears, ensuring it doesn’t harm the Niffler.
Liz will suggest searching for the Wampus Cat at Hogsmeade Station, a location in proximity to where both Ismelda and Madam Umbridge were attacked. Agreeing with her idea, you’ll decide to seek assistance from Barnaby in catching a Niffler.
Proceed to Hagrid’s Garden when you are ready to meet with him. You’ll thank Barnaby for agreeing to help Charlie.
He’ll express his willingness to help, particularly since it involves the chance to hold the adorable magical creature. However, he’ll request that you promise him no harm will befall the Niffler. You’ll reassure him, explaining your intention to capture the Wampus Cat before it has the chance to approach the Niffler.
You’ll find it odd that Barnaby wants to search for a Niffler in Hagrid’s garden. He’ll explain that Nifflers often venture out to eat Hagrid’s pumpkins. Charlie will ask you where to put his Golden Snitch. You’ll look around and find a suitable spot for him to place it.
The three of you will then hide behind some rocks.
Moments later, a Niffler will show up and approach the Golden Snitch.
You will quickly take out your wand and cast the Stunning Charm.
Unfortunately, Niffler will notice you before you finish casting the spell, which will result in your spell missing its target.
You’ll quickly ask your friends to help you capture the Niffler. To trap the Niffler, you will need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.
Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus progress t actions tied to Charlie, Barnaby, and your character. Focus on those if you want to save as much energy as possible.
Once again, you will get the opportunity to cast Stupefy on the Niffler.
The spell will work as intended, and the little fellow will be knocked unconscious.
Barnaby will express his happiness about completing his first Ministry assignment with the Department for Magical Creature Regulation. You’ll find it odd, considering he and Charlie have already handled Nifflers under Mr. Diggory.
Barnaby will explain that it was way too easy and hardly counts as an assignment. Charlie will disagree, mentioning he got bitten by Nifflers quite a few times. Barnaby will assume he was just unlucky. You will point out that the assignment was probably too easy for him because he is skilled with magical creatures. This will cause your Slytherin friend to blush.
Charlie will say that you are finally ready to lure out the Wampus Cat.
Barnaby will ask if you have any sort of contingency plan. There are two options to reply with. If you like Barnaby, it is recommended to pick the first option.
Shortly after, you will decide to meet up with Liz and capture the Wampus Cat.
You will need to wait four hours until you are able to proceed. Once again, it is recommended to simply wait until the timer runs out.
Head to Hogsmeade Train Station once the waiting time is over. Upon arriving, you will gently place the Niffler on the ground.
Thankfully, Penny was kind enough to give Barnaby some Sleeping Draught to put the Niffler to sleep. This way, the Niffler won’t run off before you’re ready to capture the Wampus Cat. All that’s left is to wait for the Wampus Cat to appear. Charlie will ask if you are nervous. There are two options to reply with. This choice won’t have any big impact on the story, so feel free to choose the option you prefer.
Liz will suggest hiding behind a pile of luggage and wait for the Wampus Cat to appear.
You won’t have to wait long until the Wampus Cat shows up.
You will quickly take out your wand and prepare to fight it.
The task window will display all the relevant information, so hit Start when you are ready to begin.
Overall, the attribute requirements for this duel aren’t too high, so you will most likely have an advantage. One way to deal with the Wampus Cat is to go Aggressive and use Depulso.
Wampus Cat will rush towards you, which will cause you to drop your wand.
You will quickly raise your hand and use wandless magic. Trace the path on the screen to cast Stupefy.
The spell will work as intended, and the Wampus Cat will get knocked unconscious.
Charlie will be impressed with the way you handled the Wampus Cat.
Liz will be happy that the Niffler didn’t get hurt and moments later, the little fellow will wake up.
You will quickly decide to secure the Wampus Cat, and Liz will point out that it looks charming. She’ll even come up with a name for the Wampus Cat.
Suddenly, you will notice a sock lying nearby.
Charlie will find it very odd.
You’ll recall that a sock Portkey was stolen while everyone was distracted by the enchanted window curse.
In any case, you will decide to take the sock to Mad-Eye Moody.
You’ll figure out that whoever stole the Portkey used it to transport a Wampus Cat. Liz will wonder why anyone would want to do that. Unfortunately, you won’t have the answer to that question. Still, it is another mystery you will be determined to solve.
This will conclude Chapter 10 of Year 7. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 350 Coins and 2000 Experience Points.
Is the sock you found on a Wampus Cat really a missing Portkey? And will Mad-Eye have any answers? Find out in the next chapter of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery!
