Chapter 9 – A Beast Of A Division
Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Nine of Year Seven of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. Last time, you talked to Professor Flitwick about Reg’s wand, and he agreed to help you figure out the last spell that was cast by it. While he was doing that, you met with Corey in the Courtyard, and you talked about the investigation. You learned that Merula often visited the Whomping Willow while you were away. Corey also told you that the Dark Witch Merula was meeting with is probably the Metamorphmagus responsible for cursing the Enchanted Windows.
Afterward, you went back to Professor Flitwick, and he told you that the last spell cast by Reg’s wand was the Atmospheric Charm. Fortunately, the effects of the spell can easily be reversed with Meteolojinx Recanto.
You returned to the Ministry of Magic, and you broke the enchanted window curse. Mad-Eye Moody thanked you for breaking the curse, and he told you that the Metamorphmagus used a distraction caused by the curse to steal a Portkey.

Walkthrough
Now is the time to continue where you left off. This chapter contains one lesson and one assignment. Since you will need to progress the story to unlock the assignment, it is recommended to focus on the lesson first. Proceed to Muggle Studies when you are ready. To unlock the Rubber Duck lesson, you will need to earn a total of nine stars from the Muggle Studies classes. Select the class duration you prefer, and hit Start when you are ready to begin.

As usual, prioritize bonus progress actions if you are looking to save some energy.

Try your best to complete all the mini-tasks to earn some extra Empathy points.

Return to Muggle Studies once you earn enough stars to unlock the lesson. To complete the Rubber Duck lesson, you’ll need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

During the lesson, Professor Sikander will ask you a question about the rubber duck. Once you are done, you should go to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement to meet with Mad-Eye Moody. Tonks will be happy to see you arrive.

You’ll tell her you are glad that you managed to break the enchanted window curse. In other words, you can focus on figuring out what ‘R’ wants to do with the Portkey they’ve stolen. Mad-Eye Moody will remind you that you still need to report on your enchanted window assignment. Luckily, Tonks has been taking notes, which will make the whole process easier.
Debriefing with Moody requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

There are bonus progress actions linked to your character and Mad-Eye. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

You will admit that you didn’t expect you would be breaking curses at the Ministry of Magic.

Also, finding out that a member of ‘R’ is likely a Metamorphmagus was quite a surprise. Tonks will say she didn’t expect to be locked in a trunk and have someone impersonate her. In any case, what matters is that both Tonks and you are safe, and the enchanted window curse is no more.
You should finally be able to focus on figuring out why ‘R’ stole the Portkey. Mad-Eye will warn you that someone’s coming, and he’ll ask you to be quiet. You will turn around and notice Wilkie Twycross approaching.

He’ll say that he wants to congratulate Tonks and you on breaking the enchanted window curse. Both of you will thank him and say you’re happy to help the Ministry of Magic.
Mr. Twycross will say that the Ministry is impressed with your curse-breaking. There are two options to reply with. Since your friends played a big part in solving the enchanted window mystery, it is recommended to mention you had help.

In any case, Mr. Twycross will say that Tonks will be continuing with Magical Law Enforcement. Your Hufflepuff friend will be very happy to hear that, and you will be going to the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.

Mr. Twycross informed you that Amos Diggory wants to see you in the department’s office as soon as possible, and you will decide to go there immediately.

You will have to wait three hours until you can continue. Since you will most likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Head to the Department of Magical Creature Regulation once the waiting time is over. You will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters when you arrive. Tap on those if you are interested to see what they have to say. Liz will happily greet you once she sees you arrive.

She’ll be incredibly excited about having the opportunity to be around so many magical creatures. Barnaby will also express his enjoyment at the Ministry of Magic, and Charlie is hoping for a chance to go to the Dragon Research Office. Following that, you’ll learn that everyone’s talking about how you broke the enchanted window curse.

Charlie will be curious to know how you feel about it. There are two options to reply with. This choice won’t have a big impact on the story, so feel free to choose whichever option you prefer.

Either way, your friends will be there to support you.

Shortly after, Amos Diggory will welcome you all to the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.

He’ll say that all of you were handpicked for the assignment, and you will then get to learn more about the Beast Division. This requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

There are two bonus progress actions linked to Amos Diggory. Focus on his actions if you are looking to save as much energy as possible.

Mr. Diggory will explain how they’re starting new case books, and Charlie and Barnaby will assist him with Nifflers. Meanwhile, you and Liz will be investigating creature sightings in Hogsmeade, and both of you will be excited about the assignment.

Proceed to the Hogsmeade Train Station once you are ready to start your assignment. When you arrive, you’ll be able to interact with some of the characters. You will notice Dolores Umbridge sitting on the bench.

Liz will point out that she looks injured, and you’ll inform her that Madam Umbridge is the Head of the Improper Use of Magic Office. Liz will then suggest that you take the lead, as she isn’t as adept at interacting with people.

You will approach Madam Umbridge and state that you are investigating the creature attack. She, however, expresses her preference for someone else to handle the investigation.

In any case, you will decide to ask her some questions about the attack. Interviewing Madam Umbridge requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting this task with an empty energy bar.

There are bonus progress actions tied to Madam Umbridge, Liz, and your character. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

As it seems, Madam Umbridge was on her way to Madam Puddifoot’s Tea Shop when she was attacked by an unknown creature, but she doesn’t remember much about the incident. Despite the lack of clues, Liz will point out the claw mark on Madam Umbridge’s arm.

Upon examining the claw mark, you’ll deduce that it likely belongs to some big cat. However, Madam Umbridge will vehemently denied that any cat would ever harm her.

Explaining your purpose, you’ll mention being sent by Amos Diggory to investigate the creature attack. It becomes clear that Madam Umbridge isn’t too fond of Mr. Diggory.

Shortly after, she will leave the place. Liz will say that she doesn’t really like Madam Umbridge. There are two options to reply with. If you like Liz, it is recommended to agree with her and select the first option.

Either way, you will calm her down and say that you should focus on the investigation. Madam Puddifoot will approach you and say that she might be able to help you. She’ll tell you that a Hogwarts student was found near Zonko’s Joke Shop with large scratches. Furthermore, the student also couldn’t remember the details of the attack.

According to Madam Puddifoot, the student was rushed to the Hospital Wing immediately. You’ll quickly decide to go there and find out if one of your friends was attacked. You will have to wait four hours until you can proceed. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait, and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Go to the Hospital Wing once the waiting time is over. Upon arriving, you will be able to interact with some of the characters and see what they have to say. You’ll spot Ismelda lying on the hospital bed, and you will ask what happened.

She didn’t seem to be in the mood for talking, and it appeared that Merula was already fussing over her.

You will apologize to Ismelda for bothering her and say that you’re investigating a creature attack in Hogsmeade. Liz will add that Madam Puddifoot said a Hogwarts student was injured, so you rushed to see if it was one of your friends. Ismelda will make it clear that neither of you is her friend.

Merula will remind her that she should be resting.

Liz will point out that the scratches on Ismelda’s arm look very similar to the ones you saw on Madam Umbridge. Merula will be surprised to hear that. You’ll explain that you’re investigating the creature attacks in Hogsmeade as part of your assignment.
Moreover, you’ll mention that you observed similar scratches on Madam Umbridge’s arm, and she couldn’t recall what happened. Subsequently, you will ask Ismelda if she would be willing to share more details about the attack. Fortunately, she’ll agree to discuss it. Learning about the attack requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

There are bonus progress actions linked to Ismelda and a nearby student. Prioritize those if you want to save a bit of energy.

You’ll politely request Ismelda to recount the details of the attack once more. Despite her initial annoyance at your request, she will proceed to sum up everything she remembers.

You’ll ask Merula about her whereabouts during the incident. In response, she will curtly instruct you to mind your own business. Eventually, she’ll ask both you and Liz to leave, explaining that Ismelda needs rest.
Before you leave, Liz will ask if you think Merula is acting strange. There are two options to reply with. If you like Merula, it is recommended to select the second option. Otherwise, feel free to pick either one.

In any case, you will decide to focus on the assignment, and you’ll sum up the clues you have about the attacks.

You will suggest going to the library to see if you can identify the mysterious creature. Proceed there when you are ready to continue. Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you want to see what they have to say. Liz will say that she gathered a lot of books on magical creatures.

You’ll express surprise that she hasn’t already identified the creature. She’ll admit to being slightly bothered by that and assert her knowledge of every creature native to the British Isles. Concluding that the creature is likely not local, Liz will raise the question of how a non-native creature ended up in the British Isles.
There are three options to reply with. None of these will have any big impact on the story, so feel free to pick the option you prefer.

In any case, you should be able to figure it out after doing some research. Researching with Liz requires earning five stars within an hour. Three stars are needed to pass.

There are bonus progress actions tied to Diego and your character. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

After concluding your discussion, you’ll inform Liz that you stumbled upon something intriguing. Inquiring about the Wampus Cat, she will confess to not being too familiar with it. The book will reveal that Wampus Cats are native to the Appalachian Mountains of North America, making it almost impossible to smuggle such a creature across the ocean.

Liz will ask if the book will provide additional information about the Wampus Cat. The text will reveal that they will possess the power of hypnosis and Legilimency, likely explaining why Ismelda and Madam Umbridge won’t remember much about the attack. Realizing the need for more information, you’ll express the intention to delve deeper into understanding the Wampus Cat, prompting Liz to decide to conduct further research.

Shortly after, she will leave the Library, and you will notice Corey approaching.

She will say that she’s been looking for you.

You’ll ask if she has any news about Merula. As it seems, the Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts is still going to the Whomping Willow. However, you’ll need to figure out if she is doing that to communicate with ‘R’. You’ll ask Corey if she saw Merula earlier during the day. Unfortunately, she was too busy with Head Girl duties.

You’ll ask Corey to be extra careful, and she’ll nod and advise you to focus on your Ministry assignments. Deciding to heed her advice, you will head back to the Ministry and report to Mr. Diggory.
With this, all of the story tasks will be completed. Now you can finish the assignment for the Ministry. Proceed to the Ministry Office when you are ready. Once you arrive, Mad-Eye will ask if you know anything about werewolves.

You’ll inform him that you know more than most Hogwarts students. Moody will explain that a witch recently came into St Mungo’s with a werewolf bite and fled as soon as the Healers treated her wound. Concerned about potential harm, you’ll ask if she has hurt anyone. Mad-Eye will clarify that she hasn’t, but there’s no telling what could happen during the next full moon. If she is not found before she transforms, the Werewolf Capture Unit will be sent to bring her in.

You will tell Moody you’ll do all in your power to help him track down the werewolf. You’ll need to finish several tasks to complete this assignment. As usual, you can do them in any order you prefer.

During these, it is recommended to select the task duration that matches the star requirements.

Focus on bonus progress actions whenever they are available, in order to save as much energy as possible.

Also, try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks successfully for some extra attribute points.

Return to the Ministry Office once you complete all of the tasks. Mad-Eye will tell you that they’ve managed to find the missing werewolf.

Luckily, the Wolfsbane Potion should keep her sane during the next full moon. As long as she’s careful, the Werewolf Capture Unit won’t bother her. Nevertheless, she will have to be cautious for the rest of her life.

Mad-Eye will thank you for your assistance.

This will mark the end of Chapter 9 of Year 7. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 350 Coins and 2000 Experience Points.
