Chapter 3 – On The Case
Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Three of Year Seven of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. Last time, you talked to Merula and found out that she’s been practicing a lot during the summer break. She even learned some wandless magic and challenged you to a wandless duel. You accepted her challenge and went to research wandless magic.
Unfortunately, you weren’t able to master this form of magic in time, which resulted in you losing the duel to Merula for the first time. Afterward, you talked to Corey and learned that she found out you’ve been poking around Merula lately. In the end, you told Corey about what happened near the end of the previous year, and the two of you decided to spy on Merula together.

Walkthrough
But before doing that, you should take care of the lessons. Proceed to the Transfiguration Classroom when you are ready. To unlock the Toad to Toadstool lesson, you need to earn a total of nine stars from the Transfiguration classes. Select the class duration suitable to your liking and hit Start to begin.

As always, prioritize bonus actions whenever they are available in order to save as much energy as possible.

As for the mini-tasks, completing each of them successfully will grant you some Knowledge points.

Return to the classroom once you earn enough stars to unlock the lesson. Learning how to transfigure toad to toadstool requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, which is why you shouldn’t start this lesson if your energy is low.

Professor McGonagall will ask you a question related to the lesson, so be sure to answer it correctly.

Upon earning the fifth star, you will be tasked with casting the spell. Trace the wand movement to do so.

Head to the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom for the second lesson of the chapter. To unlock the Chameleon Ghoul lesson, you need to acquire nine stars from the Defence Against the Dark Arts classes. Choose the class duration you prefer and hit Start to begin.

Like before, focus on the reward actions to save as much energy as possible.

Each of the mini-tasks will grant you some Courage points, so try your best to successfully complete all of them.

Head back to the classroom once you obtain enough stars to unlock the lesson. To complete the Chameleon Ghoul lesson, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, which is why you should avoid starting this lesson with an empty energy bar.

During the lesson, Bill will ask you a question about Chameleon Ghouls.

Once you earn the fifth star, you will be tasked with casting a Defensive Spell. Trace the wand movement to do so.

Now that you’ve done with the lessons, you can continue the story. Proceed to the Muggle Studies when you are ready. When you arrive, you will get to interact with some of your friends and see what they have to say. Corey will say that you will get a perfect opportunity to keep an eye on Merula during Muggle Studies class. However, in order to do that, you will have to keep your voices down and act normal.

Shortly after, the lesson will start, and Professor Sikander will introduce himself to the class. He’ll shortly summarize what the Muggle Studies class is all about.

Merula will make it clear that she isn’t really fascinated by Muggles, and the professor will kindly point out some interesting Muggle inventions.

He will then inform everyone about the topic of today’s class.

Corey will say that she finds the wizarding world much more interesting. You can choose to agree with her or to say that you are fascinated by Muggles. If you like Corey, it is somewhat recommended to pick the first option. Otherwise, feel free to choose either one.

She’ll then suggest keeping an eye on Merula during the class. Spying on Merula requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

There are bonus progress actions tied to Corey and your character. Focus on those if you want to save some energy.

Professor Sikander will say a few closing words about Muggle’s inventions before dismissing the class.

You’ll ask Corey if there was anything suspicious about Merula’s behavior during the class. Other than taking notes, the Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts hasn’t been doing anything out of the ordinary. Following that, you’ll take a look at Merula and notice her transfiguring a note into a black quill.

Moments later, Ismelda will walk past her and pick up the quill.

You’ll decide to follow Ismelda to retrieve the note and ask Corey to keep an eye on Merula in the meantime. You will have to wait three hours before you can continue. Since your energy will likely be low at this point, you should wait and let it recharge in the meantime.

Head to the Owlery once the waiting time is over. Ismelda will be surprised to see you. You’ll calmly tell her that students are allowed to come to the Owlery. Still, she will be curious to know what you are doing. There are three options to reply with. This choice will have a slight impact during the conversation with Talbott later on, but other than that, it won’t have any big influence on the story, so feel free to take your pick.

Shortly after, Ismelda will leave the place and Talbott will be curious to know what’s going on. You’ll explain that you’ve been following Ismelda for a while. Following that, he’ll ask why you came to the Owlery. Your previous choice will take effect here.

You’ll tell Talbott you’re looking for a black quill, and he’ll offer to help you find it. You’ll gladly accept his help, and in return, you’ll agree to assist him in feeding the owls. Shortly after, the two of you will start looking for the black quill. This requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

The only bonus action here is tied to one of the owls. Focus on it when it is available to save some energy.

Thankfully, you’ll be able to find the black quill. You’ll take out your wand and cast Reparifarge to untransfigure the quill.

The spell will work, and you’ll take the note and read it.

You’ll decide to be outside the Artefact Room after supper to spy on Merula.

Proceed to meet with Corey when you are ready. Corey will ask if you are sure Merula is meeting someone in the Artefact Room. You’ll nod and mention what the note said. You’ll also say that you are quite sure she is the Hogwarts mole.

According to the note, Merula probably has a co-conspirator, but you haven’t identified the person she’s meeting. Corey will encourage you to think like a detective and consider that the co-conspirator could be a student or professor. You’ll mention you haven’t read stories about Detectives Conebush and Persimmons, and Corey will happily offer to fill you in.
She’ll also explain that you need something to pass the time while waiting for Merula to show up, and you’ll agree to her proposition and don your invisible cloak to avoid any suspicion.

Discussing detective stories with Corey requires earning five stars within an hour. Three stars are needed to pass.

Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There is a bonus progress action linked to one of the students standing next to Tonks.

After waiting for a while and finding stake-outs dull, Corey will suggest finding some entertainment while waiting, emphasizing the connection between detective stories and the situation with Merula.

She’ll then ask if you think you should approach the situation like Conebush and Persimmons. If you like Corey, it is recommended to pick the first option. Otherwise, feel free to go with either one. Also, this choice will be referenced later on, but it won’t change the story significantly.

Moments later, you will spot Merula walking towards the Artefact Room with a hooded figure next to her.

The two of you will quickly decide to go after them. Unfortunately, just as you’re about to enter the corridor, the caretaker will intercept you. The following lines will differ, based on whether your character is a Head Boy/Girl, Prefect, or just a regular student.

Unfortunately, Mr. Filch won’t be willing to let you through. In the end, you’ll decide to wait until he leaves the area.
Sadly, you will have to wait four hours until the caretaker leaves. You will more than likely be low on energy at this point, which is why it’s recommended to wait and let your energy replenish in the meantime.

Once the waiting time is over, proceed to the Artefact Room to confront Merula. Corey will be excited about catching her in the act. The Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts will be surprised to see you.

You’ll tell her you know about her secret meeting. Suddenly, you will notice Badeea in the Artefact Room, which will come as a shock. She’ll ask you to let her explain everything. If you like Badeea, it is recommended to pick the second option and allow her to explain what’s going on.

Merula will say that there’s a perfectly logical explanation for everything. You’ll decide to hear them out and allow them to explain the situation. Listening to Merula requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, which is why it’s not recommended to start this task if you are low on energy.

There are reward actions linked to your character and Merula. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

In the end, you’ll learn that Badeea was tutoring Merula. Merula will admit that she was falling behind, which is why she asked Badeea for help.

Also, you’ll realize that she was embarrassed about having to ask someone to tutor her, which was the reason for all the secrecy.

She’ll ask you not to tell anyone about it. Merula will then want to know why you decided to spy on her. You’ll admit that she was acting suspicious, so you decided to see what’s going on. Badeea will kindly tell her there’s no shame in asking for help. Shortly after, both of them will leave the Artefact Room. Corey will tell you she did not expect that twist.

She’ll ask you about the investigation, but you’ll decide to give it some thought before discussing it. You’ll ask Corey to meet you at lunch.
Proceed to the Great Hall when you are ready to continue. Upon arriving, you will be able to interact with some of your friends by tapping on the speech bubbles above them. Corey will say she’s sorry that your investigation didn’t turn up the way you hoped.

You’ll say that you are worried about your friends.

Still, you don’t want to act hastily without any solid proof. Corey will point out that you at least didn’t tell Merula about the reason why you were spying on her. In other words, you still have the advantage of her not knowing that you’re aware she’s working with ‘R’. Still, you don’t have any solid proof.
Corey will ask if there’s a chance you misjudged Merula. After all, Merula was just meeting with Badeea to study Charms. However, none of that changes the fact that you saw Merula meeting with the member of ‘R’.

One of your previous choices will take effect here.

Corey will suggest reviewing the facts. You’ll nod and agree to review everything you know about the case. This requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, which is why it’s recommended not to start this task with an empty energy bar.

There are bonus actions linked to the note and your character. Focus on those if you want to save a bit of energy.

The two of you will sum things up once you’re done reviewing the facts.

Corey will point out that you still need to learn the whole story.

She’ll ask if you are confident that she is working with ‘R’. There are two options to reply with. If you like Merula, you might want to give her the benefit of the doubt, at least until you get some solid evidence.

Corey will suggest continuing to monitor Merula in order to find out the truth. Still, you will need to be extra careful, especially since she knows you’ve been spying on her.

Suddenly, Tonks will arrive to inform you that the Headmaster wants to see you in his office. You’ll be curious to know why, and apparently, it has something to do with the trips outside of Hogwarts. Corey will point out that it’s probably time to get your assignment for the career project.

You’ll decide not to keep Professor Dumbledore waiting.

This will conclude Chapter 3 of Year 7. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 350 Coins and 2000 Experience Points.
It’s almost time to think about your future wizarding career. What options does Professor Dumbledore have for you? Find out in the next chapter of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery.
Thank you for reading.
