Chapter 5 – Wishful Thinking
Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Five of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume Two of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. You found Rath at a mysterious gathering and explained that Lockhart had invited you without reason. Lockhart interrupted, claiming you disobeyed Umbridge and snuck into the social club, where he’s now president. He also revealed he’s the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor and asked for your help in preparing the classroom, promising you a spot in his exclusive club.
Later, at Flourish and Blotts, Olivia commented on the overwhelming crowd gathered for Lockhart’s book signing. You managed to pick a book for Jacob, but then Harry Potter and Hermione Granger appeared, shifting everyone’s attention.
Meeting Jacob, you discussed the curse and your next move, deciding to investigate whether Verruca was still in Azkaban. Back home, Ruby embraced her new identity for safety, while at work, Flump confirmed that Verruca never left Azkaban, raising the question of who reversed Jacob’s curse. Just then, the mysterious door from New York called to you again, beckoning you closer to the truth…

Proceed to the ROCC ward when you’re ready to go through the mysterious door. For the second time, when you pass through the door, you’ll find yourself back in the fountain.

While you’re pondering why the door has sent you back to the middle of the fountain, someone throws a coin that hits you on the head.

He’ll explain that he’s about to propose to his girlfriend and that the wish he made was for the proposal to go well. There are three different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

After a few moments, you’ll step out of the fountain to avoid causing any further issues. Just then, the young man’s girlfriend will show up and be quite rude to him, expressing her desire to end their relationship, which will deeply sadden the young man.

You’ll decide to have a chat with him to possibly uncover the root of the problem between them. To investigate what happened, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to the fountain and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions.

You’ll learn that his girlfriend was excited about getting married and even helped him choose the ring. Everything seemed perfect until he threw a coin into the fountain, which hit you in the head. This incident led him to start blaming you for his misfortune.

You’ll wonder if the reason the door keeps teleporting you here is that the fountain might be a cursed place. At that moment, Ben will appear and explain that he was called back because there are still people to oblivate. He’ll ask if you’ve witnessed anything unusual. There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Following that, Ben will say he needs to get back to work.

Go to the High Street to meet with Vega. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. When you arrive, you’ll be surprised to see her working on a car.

She’ll say that working on cars is her hobby. You’ll point out that she has the ability to travel anywhere in the world and back and ask why she needs a car. She’ll reply that a road trip can be quite a rewarding experience and offer you an adventure tip: that the journey is just as important as the destination. She’ll then ask if you agree. There are three different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

Shortly after, you’ll mention that you came to see her because of the cursed places case. You’ll explain that you witnessed a wizard make a wish in the Washington Square Park fountain and that it backfired. You’ll express your suspicion that the fountain might be a cursed place but admit that you can’t figure out what to do next.

To work on Vega’s car, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Vega and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions.

You’ll notice that fluid is leaking from the engine, and Vega will add that it wasn’t bearings as she suspected.

She’ll thank you for helping her and mention that now that she knows what the problem is, she can fix it. However, you’ll remind her that she promised to help you with your case.

You’ll realize that you can’t diagnose the curse just by observing it and that you need to get your hands dirty. So, if your hypothesis is correct that the fountain is cursed and grants opposite wishes, you’ll need to test it by making a wish yourself.

After a brief conversation, you’ll thank her for her help and decide to go out for lunch with your friends.

You’ll need to wait three hours before you can continue.

Proceed to the Hog’s Head Inn when the waiting time is over. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. When you arrive, you’ll greet everyone, but Merula will ask you to be quieter as she’s trying to place an order.

Merula will say that she doesn’t need a job with Aberforth, as she already has an interview lined up for a new position. There are two options to choose from. If you like Merula, it is recommended to pick the first option.

Following that, you’ll notice that everyone has arrived except Barnaby. Penny will explain that Barnaby had to cancel because he had to run an errand for his grandmother.

To discover the housemates’ issue, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Liz, Penny, Merula, and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions.

You’ll realize that Grandmum Lee is criticizing everyone and everything in the house. Penny will add that it’s more annoying than insulting and that they had to remove all the portraits from their rooms because she keeps waking them up with minor complaints. There are two options to choose from. It is recommended to pick the second option.

You’ll comment that it seems like Barnaby is the one who could help with this situation. Penny will add that Barnaby is so afraid of confronting her, even in portrait form.

You’ll agree to take on the task and decide to go talk to him right away.

Go to the Ministry of Magic to continue the story. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say.

You’ll ask Barnaby how he’s doing, and he’ll say he’s never been better, adding that last week he led the bloodhounds on a successful mission to rid a farm of a Nogtail infestation, and yesterday he had a piece of cake for no reason at all. It wasn’t even anyone’s birthday.

You’ll tell him that you’d like to know more about his life at home, and then ask if you can ask him a few questions about it, which he will agree to. To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Talbott, Barnaby, and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions.

Barnaby will say that his grandmum cares about the house and just wants to help, but you’ll point out that this doesn’t explain why she’s waking his friends every night.

These lines will differ based on your previous choice.

He will feel sad and say that they never told him that, and you’ll explain that they didn’t want to upset him because they know it’s a sensitive subject for him. Barnaby will then say that he supposes he’s dealt with his Grandmum’s constant sniping his whole life, so he barely notices it anymore. Following that, he’ll ask if he should feel upset because his housemates didn’t tell him directly.
There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

In any case, Barnaby will say that he wants everyone in Friendship Manor to be happy, and he’ll decide to confront his Grandmum. At that moment, he’ll make a wish and toss a coin into the fountain, which will remind you that you need to get back to work.

Proceed to the Workspace when you are ready to check in with Flump. When you arrive, you’ll see Flump yelling at Callum while he tries to explain something.

However, Flump will refuse to listen, and Callum will leave. You’ll approach Flump and ask him what happened, but he’ll reply that it’s nothing you need to know about. There are two different options to choose from. Both of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

Flump will then ask how Ruby’s first day in Magical Maintenance went. When you reply that you haven’t spoken to her yet, Flump will explain that you need to stay on top of this and that there’s a reason you must provide updates on Ruby. He’ll stress the importance of paying attention because he has a new assignment for you.
To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Flump and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions.

You’ll learn that your assignment is to ensure Ruby is helping out with the Eris case. Since she’s no longer in the ROCC, Flump will have no contact with her due to the precise risks involved.

Flump will add that capturing Eris will tie up a loose end before it becomes a much bigger problem. This line will differ based on your previous choice.

Then, you’ll want to ask Flump if you could visit Verruca in Azkaban. Surprisingly, Flump will preempt you and add that he knows what you and your brother are going through and that he will be going to Azkaban soon to visit Verruca.

Now that you have completed the story, you can start the mandatory and optional chapter tasks. You need to complete one mandatory chapter task and two optional chapter tasks to unlock the next chapter. When you complete three tasks, the fourth one that is left will disappear.
Go to your Flat to start the mandatory chapter task. Merula needs your help to prepare for a job interview.

You’ll need to complete several objectives to finish this mandatory chapter task. Feel free to do them in any order you prefer.

While doing these objectives, it is recommended to select the duration that matches their star requirements.

Prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

Once you complete all of the tasks, hit the Collect button and return to your Flat.

After you complete all the objectives, you can claim the reward in the Wizarding World section of the Wizarding Life tab.

Choose the optional tasks you like. You can Organise Workspace where you can earn Dragon Experience Points, Wizarding War Secrets where you can earn Spinx Experience Points, and Ministry Case Analysis where you can earn Auror and Dragon Experience Points.

Also, prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

This will conclude Chapter 5 of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume 2. You will receive 400 Coins and 2500 Experience Points.
In this chapter, we witnessed Barnaby grappling with his grandmother’s relentless criticism, hoping he’ll find a resolution to this family issue. Meanwhile, we encountered a stranger by the fountain whose wish went awry, leading us to question the fountain’s nature. As we prepare to visit Verruca in Azkaban, we’re on the brink of uncovering more about Jacob’s curse and our father’s past. While it would be easier to live without these challenges, we must learn to navigate and confront them with strength and resilience. Until next time, stay determined and keep fighting the good fight.
