Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough section for Hats Off Part 1 of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery! Before the new school year begins with the traditional Sorting Ceremony, Professor Dumbledore has a special request for you. He needs your help with a unique task concerning the Sorting Hat.

Proceed to the Training Grounds when you are ready. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say.

When you arrive, you’ll notice that many of your friends are there, all excited about the start of the new school year. Jae is there too, though unlike the others, he doesn’t seem nearly as surprised or excited—mainly because he still has detention to serve from last year. If you don’t know Jae yet, you’ll get some extra dialogue lines.

In any case, the conversation will soon turn to the Sorting Ceremony. You’ll note that the Sorting Hat comes up with a completely new song every year, and that it’s over a thousand years old. Imagine writing that many songs!

Together, you and your friends will then decide that each of you should share what you know about the history of the Sorting Ceremony.

To learn about the sorting ceremony, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass. 

Bonus progress actions are tied to Penny and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

Then Penny will ask you what you think about the Sorting Hat’s song, which changes every year. There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

At that moment, Professor McGonagall will appear and tell you that the Headmaster urgently requests your presence. She’ll urge you not to delay and to follow her to his office right away.

Go to Dumbledore’s Office to continue the story. He will explain that he requires your help—specifically, your assistance with the Sorting Hat. The Headmaster will then ask you to listen carefully as he shares the details.

To help Dumbledore, you need to earn five stars within three hours. The five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Professor Dumbledore. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

Professor Dumbledore will explain that he needs your help to update the Sorting Hat with knowledge of present-day Hogwarts in order to finalize its song. He wants the Hat to be prepared to compose a song that truly reflects the spirit of modern Hogwarts.

Dumbledore will then ask how you feel about taking on such responsibility for the Sorting Hat. There are three different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

Following that, you will decide to take the Sorting Hat to a more private location so you can begin working on the song together.

Proceed to the Artefact Room when you are ready. Together with the hat, you will start discussing the plan for writing the new song. The Sorting Hat will mention that it is more specialized in Hogwarts traditions, but new ideas can likely provide fresh rhymes and verses. You will then ask it to recite the verses it has already come up with so you know what you’re working with.

To listen to the Hat’s verses, you need to earn five stars within three hours. The five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

You will realize that all the verses so far focus on the history of Hogwarts. In these historical verses, it mentions a thousand years or more, the four noble founders, and their joined voices: Godric Gryffindor, the brave and clever knight; Salazar Slytherin, with ambition burning bright; Rowena Ravenclaw, the wisest by far; Helga Hufflepuff, with a heart like a star.

Two wizards, two witches, the best of them all; together they sorted the students of yore. The Sorting Hat will then ask you what you think of its existing song.

You will agree together that the song should also include some elements of the present to reflect modern Hogwarts, combining both history and the current times in the verses.

By the end of Part 1, you and the Sorting Hat have laid the groundwork for a new song that celebrates both the rich history of Hogwarts and its vibrant present, setting the stage for a magical year ahead.
