A Gathering of Old Friends Part 1

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to Part 1 of our Walkthrough for A Gathering of Old Friends Adventure of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. This adventure is available for students of Year 3 and above, and during it, you will be able to help Professor Dumbledore with a special task.

Once you start the adventure, Hagrid will ask you to meet him in his garden, so proceed there when you are ready.

As soon as you arrive, you’ll notice the worried look on Hagrid’s face. He’ll say that he needs your help.

You will ask him to tell you what’s wrong. You’ll learn that Professor Dumbledore tasked him with decorating for a gathering in Godric’s Hollow.

You’ll be curious to learn more about this gathering. If you completed Secrets of Godric’s Hollow adventure, you’ll get some additional lines of dialogue.

Hagrid will explain that he’s sworn to secrecy, which is why he won’t be able to tell you more.

He’ll then tell you why he needs your help. He has accidentally spilled a jar of glow bugs, and he needs to collect them before Professor Dumbledore arrives.

You’ll smile and quickly offer to help him gather all of the escaped glow bugs. In return, you’ll ask him to tell you more about the secret gathering.

After giving it some thought, Hagrid will agree to your proposition. Still, he’ll remind you that he cannot tell you any secrets.

Shortly after, the two of you will start gathering glow bugs. To do that, you will need to earn five stars within one hour. Since all five stars are needed to pass, avoid starting this task if you are low on energy.

There are bonus progress actions tied to Hagrid and the pumpkins. Prioritize those actions if you want to save a bit of energy.

Luckily, you’ll be able to catch all of the glow bugs. Hagrid will thank you for your help. He’ll explain that the glow bugs will be used to illuminate the gathering.

You will say that it is really nice of Professor Dumbledore to go out of his way to arrange a gathering of old friends.

According to Hagrid, most of the guests prefer to keep a low profile. That is one of the reasons why he couldn’t tell you anything about them.

You’ll wonder why the Headmaster decided to hold the gathering in the village square, near the Potter Memorial. Hagrid will say that the guests were quite close to Lily and James Potter.

Suddenly, he’ll realize that he told you something he shouldn’t have. You’ll be surprised to learn that the guests were all friends with the Potters.

Once again, Hagrid will say that he shouldn’t have told you that. You’ll notice a concerned look on his face.

Moments later, Professor Dumbledore will arrive. He’ll be glad that everything is going well with the decorations.

Hagrid will reassure him there is nothing to worry about. By the looks of it, the Headmaster will have another important task for him.

He will ask if Hagrid told you anything he shouldn’t have. There are two options to reply with. While both options will lead to a similar outcome, Professor Dumbledore will appreciate it if you decide to be honest and tell him the truth. Because of that, it is recommended to pick the first option.

In any case, you’ll admit that you don’t know much about the gathering. Professor Dumbledore will tell you that he wants to reunite some old friends.

You’ll admire his thoughtfulness and say that you are certain all of the guests will appreciate it. You will learn that three guests haven’t answered Professor Dumbledore’s invitation yet.

He’ll ask Hagrid to follow up with them and confirm if they are coming. Unfortunately, Hagrid won’t be sure he is the right person for the job. However, he’ll be quite confident that you have what it takes to complete the task. You’ll ask if he is sure about it. The following lines will differ, depending on your previous choice.

In any case, Hagrid will say that he is certain you are great with people. Professor Dumbledore will like the idea.

He’ll tell Hagrid and you to stick together. He will also ask you not to pry. You will happily agree to that.

You’ll then ask him about the guests. By the looks of it, you will be visiting Mundungus Fletcher, Remus Lupin, and Aberforth Dumbledore.

You’ll wonder what they all have in common. Professor Dumbledore will share some of his wisdom with you.

You will be surprised that he wants you to talk to his brother. The Headmaster will tell you that things between him and his brother are rather complicated.

He will say that it would mean a lot to him if Aberforth agrees to come to the gathering. He’ll also say he’s quite sure you’ll have an easier time convincing his brother to attend the gathering.

You will promise to do your best. The following lines will differ, depending on whether or not you’ve completed the Lone Wolf adventure.

In any case, Mundungus Fletcher shouldn’t be too hard to track down. If you’ve met him before, you’ll be sure to mention it.

According to Professor Dumbledore, you should be able to find him at the Three Broomsticks. Before you leave, you’ll promise not to let him down.

Proceed to the Three Broomsticks when you are ready to talk to Mundungus. Once you arrive, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say.

You’ll find Mundungus trying to sell some items to the patrons. If this isn’t your first encounter with Fletcher, you’ll ask if he remembers you. If you are meeting him for the first time, Hagrid will introduce you.

Mundungus will quickly try to sell you some of his merchandise. You’ll get straight to the point and tell him why you came to meet with him.

Fletcher will figure out that the Headmaster has a lot of faith in you. You’ll ask if he is going to attend the gathering.

Unfortunately, he won’t be able to… at least not until he sells his wares. However, if someone would be willing to help him with that, he might find the time to attend the gathering. Having no other options, you’ll agree to help him sell his wares.

To help Mundungus, you will need to earn five stars within three hours. One star is required to pass.

If you are looking to save as much energy as possible, you should start this task immediately after the previous one, even if you are low on energy. Then, after getting enough energy, you should earn a single star and wait for the task timer to run out. This way, you can save a significant amount of energy, which should help you in the long run.

However, if you are looking to earn some extra rewards and a chance for Chocolate Frogs, it is recommended to fully complete this task. It is also worth noting there is an action with bonus progress tied to Mundungus.

Once you are done, all of Fletcher’s wares will be sold. You’ll ask if he is going to attend the gathering.

Mundungus will say that he didn’t hear from the Order recently. After giving it some thought, he’ll agree to come to the gathering.

You’ll ask him about this ‘Order’ he mentioned. Before you get an answer, Hagrid will kindly remind you about what Professor Dumbledore said earlier.

He’ll suggest the two of you hurry up. After all, you need to visit two more people. The following lines will differ, depending on whether or not you met Aberforth Dumbledore yet.

Unfortunately, Mundungus won’t know where Lupin is, so you’ll decide to visit the Hog’s Head Inn next. Go there when you are ready to continue.

Once you arrive, you’ll be able to interact with some of the characters and see what they have to say.

You’ll spot Aberforth cleaning the bar. Hagrid will let you do the talking. You’ll approach Aberforth and ask for a moment of his time. If this is your first time meeting him, you’ll properly introduce yourself. In any case, he’ll politely greet you.

You’ll then tell him about the gathering in Godric’s Hollow and ask if he is going to attend it. Unfortunately, Aberforth will say he is too busy with his work.

In other words, he won’t be attending the gathering. He’ll admit that he isn’t sure why his brother wants him there. You’ll be surprised to hear that.

Aberforth will simply say that he can’t think of any reason his brother would want him at the gathering. There are two options to reply with. Both of them will end up with the same outcome, so feel free to pick the one you prefer.

Either way, you will need to convince Aberforth to attend the gathering.

To do that, you’ll need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting this task if your energy bar is empty.

Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus progress actions linked to Hagrid and your character. Prioritize those to save energy.

Once you tell him about the gathering, Aberforth will figure out who the other guests are. He’ll admit he hasn’t seen most of them in years.

You’ll learn some interesting things about them.

You will ask Aberforth if he’ll attend the gathering. He’ll smile and say that he will.

All that’s left is to find Remus Lupin. Unfortunately, Aberforth won’t know where he is. Hagrid will suggest you go back to Professor Dumbledore. In the meantime, he will get started on the decorations.

Go to the Headmaster’s office when you are ready to continue. Once you arrive, you’ll spot Cecil Lee talking to Professor Dumbledore. He’ll urge him to cancel the gathering in Godric’s Hollow.

The Headmaster will tell him that he and his guests would never willingly put anyone in danger. Still, Cecil won’t seem willing to change his mind.

You’ll then hear him mentioning werewolves. You’ll decide to hide until they’re done with their conversation. That way, you might learn more about Dumbledore’s guests.

Eavesdropping on Cecil requires earning five stars within three hours. Since all five stars are needed to pass, it is not recommended to start this task if you are low on energy.

Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are actions with bonus progress tied to Cecil and Professor Dumbledore. Focus on those if you want to save some energy.

You will learn there might be a werewolf in Godric’s Hollow. Sadly, Cecil won’t be able to say for sure, since he couldn’t find any.

However, he did find a certain half-giant hanging light bulbs near the Potter Memorial. Apparently, the decorations looked quite nice.

Once again, Cecil will urge the Headmaster to cancel the gathering since it could put the villagers in danger.

Suddenly, Professor Dumbledore will ask for your opinion. As it seems, he’s been aware for quite some time that you’ve been eavesdropping on their conversation.

You’ll come out of hiding and apologize to him. If this is your first time meeting Cecil Lee, the Headmaster will introduce you. If you’ve completed the Halloween Feast adventure, you’ll get an additional line of dialogue.

You will apologize for spying. Interestingly enough, Cecil won’t hold it against you.

Professor Dumbledore will be curious to hear your opinion on the matter at hand. There are two options to reply with. This choice will affect some of the dialogue lines later on, but it won’t significantly impact the story, so feel free to go with the option you prefer.

In any case, the Headmaster will say there is nothing to worry about. Still, Cecil won’t be easily reassured.

Professor Dumbledore will agree that the werewolves can be quite dangerous. He’ll say that his guests are more than capable of handling those creatures.

He will also say that he was already aware of a werewolf Cecil mentioned. He’ll tell Cecil he has a plan for dealing with the werewolf.

You will be surprised to hear that. Professor Dumbledore will say that he wants to have a word with you in private. Apparently, you’ll be helping him resolve the werewolf problem safely.
