Chapter 8 – Preparing for the room

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Eight of Year One of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. In the previous Chapter, you earned back some of the House Points you lost, and you did so by helping Merula nonetheless! But the mystery of the forbidden upstairs corridor remains, and in order to solve it, you’ll need the help of some of your friends.

Also, since the door is sealed with an impenetrable lock, opening it would require some magical help, some nice spell that could do the trick and unlock it. Something like the Unlocking Charm – Alohomora. Luckily, that is exactly the lesson Professor Flitwick is going to teach you.

So, tap on the GO button and proceed to the Charms classroom.

Once you’re there, you can check what some of the other students have to say by tapping on their speech bubbles.

Afterward, Professor Flitwick will hold a quick explanation for today’s lesson. Learning Alohomora will require you to obtain five stars within three hours. It is recommended to have full energy before starting it.

Like before, prioritize 5-cost actions in order to save some energy. Also, doing all the mini-tasks successfully will give you fifty Empathy points (ten for each of them).

Lastly, when you obtain the fifth star, you will be tasked with casting the Unlocking Charm. Trace the path on the screen to successfully cast Alohomora.

Congratulations! You just learned The Unlocking Charm – Alohomora, one of the key components for accessing the Mysterious Room in the forbidden corridor. Make sure to collect 5 Gems in the Charms section of your Hogwarts Record.

The next part is to devise a plan with your faithful friend. Tap on the GO button and proceed to the Great Hall to talk to Rowan.

Once you’re there, Rowan will greet you with a huge smile, happy that you managed to earn back some House Points. You’ll have a conversation about all the things you need to prepare before venturing to the upstairs corridor.

Rowan will be happy to see you after you reclaimed some of the lost House Points for your house. After that, you’ll start explaining your plan for how to access the Mysterious Room.

Firstly, you’ll have to give Mrs. Norris the Sleeping Draught potion, so she would fall asleep while you are sneaking into the room. Penny Haywood could brew the Sleeping Draught. Secondly, you should use the Unlocking Charm, Alohomora, to open the door. Thirdly, you’ll need to know a Knockback Jinx, Flipendo, for easier escape if something attacks you or your friends, just in case.

Rowan will be worried about how you will handle Filch, but you will decide to do research on how to throw him off your trail.

You’ll then have to decide who else you want to bring along. You have two options – Ben or Penny.

As for the outcome of the story, there is not much of a difference no matter who you decide to bring, but keep in mind that you’ll be able to raise the friendship level with the one you bring along. You will need to wait three hours before you can continue the story.

Next, you’ll need to brew a Sleeping Draught. When you are ready, hit the GO button and proceed to the Potions classroom.

You’ll see that Penny is there waiting to help you with this. She is, however, curious as to why you need this potion. You have three options to respond with.

Each of these answers will award you with five attribute points. It is recommended to be honest with her, and if you decide to tell her the truth she will be super excited and promise to keep your secret safe.

You will ask Penny why Snape is not in the classroom. Penny will inform you that the school lost a professor for the Defence Against the Dark Arts and Snape is campaigning to Dumbledore to take over this post. There are rumors that he won’t get it. You will share an impression that you haven’t learned anything in DADA this year.

After that, tap on the exclamation mark and hit the Start button to begin this task. To brew Sleeping Draught, you need to earn five stars within three hours. It is somewhat recommended to start with full energy since you need to earn all five stars to pass.

There are 5-cost actions tied to your character and the cauldron. Prioritize those actions to save energy.

After completing the task, Penny will wish you the best of luck, and then the two of you will part ways. The last part of this chapter is to convince your friend to accompany you to the forbidden corridor.

However, you will need to wait three hours until the friend you chose is ready to meet with you.

Proceed to the Great Hall once the waiting time is over. Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say to you.

When you are ready, tap the exclamation mark to start the conversation with the friend you picked for this adventure. After a bit of talking, your friend will ask you a question. 

No matter which option you go with, your friend will need a bit more convincing. Tap on the handshake icon to continue.

The window will display the recommended attribute levels for this task. Once you are ready, hit the Start button to begin.

Completing this shouldn’t be too difficult, as long as you are friendly and supportive. You have a limit of six turns to complete the task, but realistically, if you pick the right answers, it can be done in three or four.

• I’m still not sure… – We can do this, Ben. (Courage)

• Why do you believe in your plan? – I believe in my friends. (Empathy)
• What about Mrs. Norris? – We need a Sleeping Draught. (Knowledge)
• We could get caught… – We won’t, I promise. (Courage)
• What about the cursed ice? – We can break the curse. (Empathy)
• I’m still not sure… – We can do this, Penny. (Empathy)
• It’s dangerous… – That’s why we need your help. (Empathy)

When you are done, you will earn some friendship experience with the friend you chose. Shortly after, Chapter 8 of Year 1 will be complete. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 125 Coins and 250 Experience points.

Now, most of the preparation for the Mysterious Room is done. Hopefully, you’ll be able to open its door using Alohomora.
