McGonagall’s Holiday Surprise Part 1

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough section for McGonagall’s Holiday Surprise Adventure of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery!  Snow has covered Hogwarts in frost as the spirit of Christmas comes alive.

Professor McGonagall is presently busy with various holiday tasks, but she has a secret reason to work fast. Her brother Malcolm is planning a surprise visit with his entire family! Assist Minerva in finishing her chores so she can share the festive joy with her relatives. Complete this quest to earn a Christmas gift of your choice!

Proceed to Dumbledore’s Office when you are ready. When you arrive, Professor Dumbledore will apologize for summoning you so late and explain that he has just received a letter from Malcolm McGonagall, Professor McGonagall’s younger brother. 

He will inform you of Malcolm’s intent to visit his sister at Hogwarts for Christmas. Dumbledore will note that as Deputy Headmistress, Minerva has many important duties during this time of year. 

She will be responsible for making the list of students staying for the break and ensuring they all receive gifts on Christmas morning. Delivering these gifts will be just one of Minerva’s many holiday acts of service. Unfortunately, her diligence is such that she will rarely pause to enjoy the season for herself, which is why your help will be necessary. Dumbledore will then ask you to listen carefully as he describes what Malcolm McGonagall has in mind and exactly why they will need your assistance.

To discover the surprise, you need to earn five stars within one hour. Three stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The bonus progress actions are tied to Professor Dumbledore. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

You will decide to help Professor McGonagall with her holiday duties. That way, she will have time to enjoy Christmas with her brother and his family, who will be staying in Hogsmeade. The most important of your tasks will be to ensure that every child at Hogwarts receives gifts on Christmas morning. You may even be called on to deliver gifts to the common rooms of every Hogwarts house, if necessary. 

The second part of your mission will be to assist Malcolm McGonagall with holiday surprises for his sister. His letter will insist on secrecy because Minerva must not know that he and his family are visiting. 

You will ask Dumbledore why he supposes Malcolm does not want Professor McGonagall to know he is coming to Hogwarts. He will respond that he suspects she would consider the visit too indulgent and would likely encourage him to stay at home instead. Following that, Dumbledore will ask you how you would feel about receiving a good-natured surprise as a gift.

There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Then he will wish you a pleasant night and add that you will meet with Professor McGonagall in her classroom the following morning to assist her with her holiday duties.

Go to the Tranfiguration Classroom to continue the story. You will wish Professor McGonagall a good morning, and she will add that she has been informed that you will assist her with the preparations for the Christmas holiday this year. Shortly thereafter, you will begin to discuss the tasks that need to be completed.

Professor McGonagall will already have a list of students staying over the break. Once she has acquired gifts for all of them, you will help her wrap them. In addition, a special Christmas tree has recently been delivered to Professor Sprout. 

You will agree to help Professor Sprout with the tree so that Professor McGonagall can focus on the gifts. Afterward, the Professor will ask you which of the holiday tasks you have discussed you feel is the most important. 

There are three different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

In any case, you will then decide to head over to see Professor Sprout.

Proceed to the Herbology Classroom when you are ready. Professor Sprout will thank you for coming to help and mention that she has also received a letter from Malcolm McGonagall.

She will add that the Headmaster informed her of a secret plan to help Professor McGonagall have a happy Christmas. Since she and Minerva have been friends for many years, she will emphasize that you should do everything possible to make her holiday a joyful one. 

Your specific task will be to grow a seedling into a full-sized tree, and to do this, you will need to make use of the Herbivicus charm. You will have different lines of dialogue depending on whether you already know Herbivicus or not, but in either case, your next task will be to learn or practice the charm.

To practice Herbivicus, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three are required to pass. 

Bonus progress actions are tied to the tree, Professor Sprout, and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions. 

Then she will ask you what another name for Herbivicus is. The correct answer will be the Gardening Charm.

Trace the wand movement to cast Herbivicus. 

The tree will grow exactly as it should.

After that, you will arrange with Professor Sprout to meet again when Professor McGonagall arrives, so that you can decorate the tree together.

Go to the Great Hall to continue the story. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say.

When you, Professor Sprout, Professor Flitwick, and Hagrid gather at the site, you will all marvel at how the oak tree you helped grow with Herbivicus has become truly enormous. You will discuss how, according to Malcolm McGonagall’s letter, this specific tree is meant to remind Professor McGonagall of her past. 

As her return to Hogwarts draws near, you will wonder how she might react to such a sight. Shortly after, she will arrive and express her surprise, noting that she certainly did not expect an oak tree and finding the choice highly unusual. However, she will quickly add that it is, after all, for the enjoyment of the students.

With that, you will all begin the festive task of decorating the tree and putting up the ornaments together.

To decorate the tree, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

When you finish, Professor McGonagall will praise your efforts and remark that the Christmas tree is now fully and beautifully decorated. You will then ask the Professor if the tree reminded her of something, and she will apologize, stating that her private recollections are not relevant to your holiday duties. 

However, she will admit that what you say is true and that the tree caused her to recall a memory of her past. She will explain that there was an oak tree much like this one near her childhood home. She will share how she once decorated it with ornaments and surprised her brothers with it on Christmas morning. 

They exchanged gifts beneath that oak, and it became a cherished memory for them. She will confess that her thoughts often turn to family at this time of year, and then she will ask you what you think about when the holiday season comes around.

There are three different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

She will then tell you that you will meet later in the library because she needs your help with sorting and wrapping the gifts. Shortly after she leaves, you will receive a letter from Malcolm, informing you that he has arrived and is waiting for you.
