McGonagall’s Holiday Surprise Part 2

Proceed to the Clocktower Courtyard when you are ready. When you arrive, you will introduce yourself to Malcolm, and he will tell you that Professor Dumbledore mentioned how helpful you have been in making his plan a success. You will then ask him why he wants everything to stay a secret.
He will explain that his sister is too dedicated for her own good and that if she knew he was visiting, she would tell him not to bother. Malcolm will say that while Minerva works hard to create happiness for the students, her own happiness is important, too. He hopes that this surprise will give her the holiday she truly deserves.
However, for you to understand the rest of his plan, he will tell you that you need to know more about their childhood together.
To hear McGonagall Memories, you need to earn five stars within three hours. The five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Malcom and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.

You will learn that he and Professor McGonagall used to play wizard’s chess during the holidays, often playing late into the night, just the two of them. He will describe her as a formidable player, noting that he has only beaten her a few times.
Because of this, he would like his next surprise to involve wizard’s chess in some way. You will tell him that Professor McGonagall loved the oak tree he sent and that it is now displayed in the Great Hall.
Malcolm will be glad to hear that and will suggest that the next surprise should also be something everyone can enjoy. This is when you will get the idea to organize a wizard’s chess tournament that the students can participate in and enjoy. Following that, he will ask you if you are a fan of wizard’s chess yourself.
There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

You will then agree that Malcolm will go to see the Headmaster to discuss the arrangements for the Wizard Chess tournament, while you head over to Professor McGonagall to help her with wrapping the gifts.
Go to the Library to prepare the gifts. When you arrive at the library, Professor McGonagall will be waiting for you. She will explain that your job is to assist in placing each item into its appropriate box and ensuring that every gift goes to the correct recipient. Shortly after, you will begin the process of wrapping the gifts together.
As you work, you will have the chance to see how much care she puts into choosing the right present for every student staying at Hogwarts over the break.
To wrap gifts, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. Three stars are required to pass.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Professor McGonagall, your character, the toys, and the sweets. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.

After you finish wrapping the gifts, Professor McGonagall will thank you for your help. She will say that she plans to tell Professor Dumbledore how well you’ve done and will tell you that you are now free to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere of Hogwarts.
However, you will then suggest that she should come with you to the Transfiguration classroom. She will be quite confused and won’t understand why you want her to go there, especially since she just told you that your duties are finished for the day.
There are three different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

In any case, she will eventually decide to go with you to the Transfiguration classroom.
Proceed to the Transfiguration Classroom when you are ready. When you enter the Transfiguration classroom, the first thing she will notice is a wizard’s chess set placed on the table, which she will find very strange.
Before she can even ask what is going on, Malcolm will suddenly appear and shout surprise. She will be completely shocked to see him there and will immediately give him a warm hug.

After their brief talk about the surprise, Malcolm will turn to you and ask who you think will win their upcoming game of wizard’s chess—him or Minerva.
There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Shortly after that, their wizard’s chess match will begin. To listen to watch and learn, you need to earn five stars within three hours. The five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Malcolm will end up winning the match, and he will playfully ask her what she thinks of his tactics. She will respond that they are the same as always and that getting lucky once out of ten times is nothing to boast about. Regardless of the score, they will both express how happy they are to finally see each other again.
Afterward, you will tell them that it is time to head to the Great Hall because the wizard’s chess tournament is about to begin. Professor McGonagall will be even more surprised to hear this, and you will explain that Malcolm told you how they used to play wizard’s chess during the holidays. You will add that this way, they can share their childhood passion with the rest of Hogwarts.
Go to the Great Hall to continue the story. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. When you arrive at the Great Hall, you will see that everyone is already prepared to start the tournament. Students are seated across from their friends and rivals, and the room is filled with a mix of festive fun and a strong competitive spirit.
After a brief chat with Professor McGonagall about different chess tactics, the tournament will officially begin, and you will spend the rest of the evening enjoying the matches and the holiday cheer.

During the tournament, the tension rises as you find yourself with one win and one loss. Now, you are facing Merula, and the match isn’t going well. She has already taken many of your best pieces, and you are far behind. You need to act fast, or you will lose the game!
Penny will notice the difficult position you are in and ask what strategy you plan to use to turn the game around. To win, the correct answers are either “Make a bold move” or “Use an invented strategy.”
Depending on your progress in the game, you will see different options:
- If you have completed the “The Curse-Breaker’s Gambit” adventure, you will have a special third option available.
- If you haven’t completed it, you will only have the two standard options to choose from.

After the tournament ends, your results will be displayed, but they won’t be enough to take the top spot. The final winner will be announced as Murphy McNully! Professor McGonagall will take second place, while Malcolm comes in third. They will both admit, “We both lost to Mr. McNully in the final rounds. He’s a formidable opponent.”
Following a brief celebration for the winner, Professor McGonagall will pull you aside for a private conversation. She will share that Malcolm has invited her to spend the evening with him and his family in Hogsmeade. While she truly wants to go, she explains that she still has one final task to complete: delivering Christmas gifts to each house’s common room.
This is where you step in. You will offer to deliver the gifts yourself so that she can enjoy the evening with her brother and family. You’ll promise her not to worry and assure her that you will get the job done right.

This will mark the end of Part 2 of McGonagall’s Holiday Surprise Adventure. Hit the Collect button to claim your reward. You will receive 3 Gems and 1 Chocolate Frog.
With the gifts ready and the Professor heading off to enjoy a rare evening with her family, you have successfully saved her holiday. By taking over her final duties, you’ve ensured that every student gets their surprise while allowing Minerva to reconnect with Malcolm.
As you set off to deliver the last of the presents to the common rooms, you can feel the true spirit of Christmas throughout the castle. All that’s left is to finish your rounds and claim your own holiday reward for a job well done.
