Walkthrough
[Disclaimer: This walkthrough will feature the gameplay from the perspective of a Year 7 student. Since the adventure is available for students of Year 5 and above, the star and attribute requirements for certain tasks might be different for you, depending on your current progress of the main story.]
Proceed to the Great Hall when you’re ready and meet up with Badeea. Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the students. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say. You will ask Badeea why she wanted to see you.

She’ll tell you she is worried about Jae, and you will take a look and notice that he looks very down.

Sadly, you won’t be sure why that’s the case, but Badeea will suggest talking to him, and the two of you will approach Jae, expressing that you noticed he is upset about something.

Jae will respond with resistance when asked about his feelings. He will simply state that it’s not anyone’s business. Badeea, however, will try a different approach. She’ll compare Jae’s appearance to that of tragic heroes in portraits, implying that he might be going through something difficult.
Jae’ll acknowledge his discomfort with opening up about his emotions. Despite this, both Badeea and yourself will determined to help and support him. With empathy, you both will encourage him to share what’s troubling him.

To find out what’s bothering Jae, you will need to earn five stars within one hour. Three stars are needed to pass.

Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus actions tied to Jae, Percy, and your character. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

You will learn that it’s Jae’s birthday, and he will tell you he wanted to make sure to avoid detention so that he could do his birthday rituals, leaving Badeea curious about what those entail.
Jae will say that on his birthday, he goes to the Three Broomsticks for Butterbeer in the morning. After that, he enjoys a special cake at lunch, and lastly, he finishes off the day with a trip to Knockturn Alley, where he buys himself a gift. Badeea will like the idea of having a special cake at lunch.

You will ask Jae to tell you which one of those activities is his favorite. Instead of answering your question, he will ask you to guess it. There are three options to choose from. His actual favorite birthday ritual is going to the Three Broomsticks for Butterbeer, so if you want to guess correctly, you should pick that option.

Jae will explain why he enjoys going to the Three Broomsticks on his birthday.

Badeea will say that she always enjoyed spending her birthday with her family, and you will suggest heading to the Three Broomsticks to celebrate Jae’s birthday. Unfortunately, Madam Rosmerta had to close the place after an accident involving a wand that backfired, so you will propose an alternative solution.

Jae will explain that it has to be the Three Broomsticks since that’s the place his parents used to take him.

He will tell you not to worry about him. After all, he still has two other birthday rituals.

Moments later, he will leave the Great Hall. You will tell Badeea that Jae wasn’t behaving like his usual self. She’ll agree with you and say that the two of you should find a way to help Jae celebrate his birthday.

She will regret not having her sketchbook with her since she always gets new ideas while she is drawing and painting. That will give you an interesting idea. You will ask her to grab her painting tools and prepare to paint fast.

Head to the Courtyard once you are ready to continue. When you arrive, you will be able to interact with some of your friends and see what they have to say. You will tell Jae that Badeea and you decided to do something special for his birthday.

He will be curious to know why you wanted to do something for him, especially since he didn’t ask for anything. You’ll explain that after hearing about the situation with the Three Broomsticks, you decided to do something creative.

You’ll then take out your wand and prepare to cast the Revelio Charm. Trace the wand movement to cast the spell.

The spell will work and reveal the lovely painting of the Three Broomsticks.

You will wish Jae a happy birthday.

He will appreciate the gesture, but he will find it odd to see the Fat Lady in the painting. You will also spot some other familiar faces.

Badeea will say that she didn’t paint any of them. She simply painted a scene at the Three Broomsticks. You will figure out that the best way to find out what’s going on would be to ask them. Talking to the portraits requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

There is a bonus progress action linked to your character, so focus on your actions if you want to save a bit of energy.

You will realize that the portraits gathered in the painting to have some fun.

Jae will wonder if all of them left their own portraits. Ben suddenly appears and informs Jae and you that Professor McGonagall urgently wants to speak with both of you

Proceed to the Grand Staircase when you are ready. Once you arrive, you will spot the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say. You will also notice a lot of Gryffindor students at the staircase.

Professor McGonagall will say that she wanted to ask you about the missing portraits.

Apparently, the Fat Lady is missing, which means that the Gryffindor students cannot get into their common room.

Jae will recall leaving his birthday cake in his dorm. Professor McGonagall will tell him that cake should be the least of his worries. She’ll say that other portraits informed her about what happened to the ones that went missing.

The Professor will turn to you and say that you are one of the known trouble-makers at Hogwarts. This line will differ if your character is a Prefect or a Head Boy/Girl.

She’ll recall hearing that you were involved in the creation of the Three Broomsticks painting. You will quickly say that you can explain everything. Explaining yourself to Professor McGonagall requires earning five stars within an hour. Since all five stars are needed to pass, avoid starting this task if you are low on energy.

There are reward actions tied to Professor McGonagall, Jae, and your character. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

You will sum things up once you are done explaining what happened.

Jae will also say a few words.

Professor McGonagall will admire your efforts to cheer up Jae. Still, your actions have led to some unforeseen consequences. You can choose whether you want to apologize or say that it wasn’t your fault. This choice won’t significantly impact the story, so feel free to go with the option you prefer.

Either way, Professor McGonagall will ask you and Jae to fix things. You will tell her that Jae had nothing to do with the creation of the painting. Unfortunately, the Professor will stand by her decision. Jae will say that he really doesn’t want to spend his birthday in detention.

Professor McGonagall will tell him to do his best to fix things. Otherwise, both of you will end up in detention. Having no other options, Jae will agree to try to fix things. Professor McGonagall will give you until the end of the day to bring back all the missing portraits. If you’ve completed A Dragon’s Quest adventure, you’ll get an additional line of dialogue.

You will reassure Jae that you’ll do all in your power to set things right.

The first step would be to talk to the Fat Lady and convince her to get back into her painting. Head to the Courtyard once you are ready to continue. Upon arriving, you will be able to interact with some of your classmates and see what they have to say. You will notice Tonks giggling at the painting.

She will say that she is amazed at the prank you and Jae pulled off. You’ll tell her that it wasn’t a prank. You will go on and explain what really happened.

Jae will say that the two of you have until the end of the day to return all the missing portraits.

You’ll add that failing to return the portraits will result in both of you getting detention. Jae will start thinking that he is doomed to spend his birthday in detention. There are three options for you to reply with. If you like Jae, it is recommended to pick the first option and give him a pep talk.

You’ll then decide to talk to the Fat Lady.

The following lines will differ, based on whether your character is a Gryffindor student or not.

The Fat Lady will ask if there’s anything she can do for you.

You will explain the situation and politely ask her to return back to her painting.

Unfortunately, the Fat Lady won’t be willing to leave the party. As it seems, she wants to spend time with someone named Violet.

You won’t find that name familiar. Suddenly, another portrait will show up and introduce herself as Violet.

She will say that the party is full of interesting characters. Also, she is well aware of who you are.

You will be surprised to hear that. Apparently, Sir Cadogan told her all about your adventures. Speaking of Sir Cadogan, he will show up and greet you.

Apparently, most of the portraits know about your curse-breaking adventures. If you’ve completed the Call to Knighthood adventure, you will get a few additional lines of dialogue.

Sir Cadogan will find the party very enjoyable. You will figure out that the Fat Lady won’t leave until Violet does. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like Violet will leave before everyone else does.
Jae will remind you that both of you will end up in detention unless you somehow manage to solve the whole mess. And if that happens, he will miss his birthday rituals. He’ll say that he already missed some of them.

You will tell him there is still time to set things right. However, in order to do that, you’ll need to come up with a plan to convince Sir Cadogan and the others to leave the party.
Tonks will say that she might be able to help with that. She’ll ask you to listen to her before making any decisions. Listening to Tonks requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, which is why you shouldn’t start this task if your energy is low.

Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are reward actions tied to Tonks and Jae. Prioritize those if you want to save as much energy as possible.

Tonks will suggest studying the portraits to understand them better. That way, you will be able to easily determine how they would react to certain situations.

Jae will like her idea. Hopefully, that way you will be able to convince the portraits to leave the party. And if you manage to do that, Jae will still be able to go to Knockturn Alley and buy himself a gift.

You will figure out that a good start would be studying Sir Cadogan. If you’ve completed the Call to Knighthood adventure, you will get an additional line of dialogue.

You’ll decide to head to the library. You will ask Jae if he wants to go there with you. He’ll say that he doesn’t want to deal with Madam Pince on his birthday. Instead, he will try to find a birthday cake in the meantime. Tonks will tell you that she cannot help you either.

You will decide to ask Badeea and Penny for help. Before leaving the courtyard, you will reassure Jae that everything will be all right.

This will conclude Part 1 of the Portrait Panic adventure. Hit the Collect button to claim your reward. You will receive 300 coins.
Will you be able to find a way to convince Sir Cadogan to leave the party? And what of other portraits? Will you manage to convince them to return to their paintings? Find out in the next part of this adventure!
