The Case of the Missing Pets Part 1

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to Part 1 of our Walkthrough for The Case of the Missing Pets Adventure Part 1 of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. This adventure is available for students of Year 2 Chapter 8 and above, and once you unlock it, you will have 2 days and 12 hours to complete it. Hogwarts is facing a new challenge! Pets are disappearing, and you’re on the case. Hagrid, Filch, and your friends are counting on you. Sharpen your detective skills, follow the clues, trust your instincts, and collaborate with others to unravel the mystery.

(Disclaimer: This walkthrough will feature the gameplay from the perspective of a graduate student. Since the adventure is available for students of Year 2 and above, some dialogue, the star, and attribute requirements for certain tasks might be different for you, depending on your current progress with the main story.)

Proceed to the Clocktower Courtyard when you are ready. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. When you arrive, you’ll encounter a worried Penny who will urgently tell you that she needs to talk to you.

You’ll ask her what’s wrong, and she’ll tell you to speak quietly because she doesn’t want to cause any more panic than you’re already facing. To discover the problem, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass. (Three stars and one hour for Years 2–6, and three stars and three hours for Year 7+.)

The only bonus progress action is tied to Penny. Prioritize this action to save some energy. 

After finishing the conversation with Penny, you’ll learn that Hogwarts’ pets are going missing. You’ll be very concerned and worried, not just for your pets but for others as well. Penny will mention that everyone is quite distressed, and due to your reputation for solving mysteries quickly, they hope you can help find their pets.

You will then ask if there are any theories as to what’s going on. Penny will respond that everyone is very confused because each pet was there one second and gone the next, but there doesn’t seem to be any pattern to the disappearances. You will suggest starting by gathering everyone’s stories yourself so that if you pay attention to details, you can compare them and see if anything jumps out. 

Penny will remind you that everyone is very upset, and maybe you might want to figure out your approach before meeting them. Then you can choose which approach to use when talking to the students about their missing pets. There are three different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

You’ll suggest hurrying and getting everyone together. Penny will like your idea and say she’ll let everyone know that you’re on the case and ready to get started.

Go to the Great Hall to meet with students. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. When you arrive, you’ll greet everyone and thank them for coming.

You’ll say you’re sorry that their pets have gone missing and add that you understand everyone is quite upset. These lines will differ based on your previous choice.

You’ll assure them that you’ll do everything you can to find their pets and suggest that they tell you exactly what happened when each of their pets went missing. This way, you might be able to figure out the cause of the disappearances. To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass. 

Bonus progress actions are tied to Percy and Tulip. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions. 

When you finish, you might come across the first lead, some mentioned being near Hagrid’s garden when their pets went missing, while others mentioned their pets disappearing near the forest or by the lake.

She’ll praise you and say that she knew you were the right wizard for the job. Then, she’ll ask how you feel after your first big breakthrough. There are three different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Shortly after, you’ll say that since Hagrid’s garden came up in several of the stories, that seems like a good place to look first.

Proceed to Hagrid’s Garden when you are ready. When you arrive there, you’ll see Merula playing with Fang.

You’ll tell her that you’re looking for Hagrid to help you because pets are going missing and they vanished near here, but Merula will tell you that Hagrid had to hurry off to investigate something in Hogsmeade.

It will be a bit strange to you, and you will ask her if Hagrid asked her to watch Fang before he left. She will think that you don’t trust her.  There are two options to choose from. If you like Merula, it is recommended to pick the first option.

You’ll then ask her if she might have noticed anything that could help you find the pets. She’ll say she hasn’t seen any pet nappers or even any pets except Fang. Following that, you’ll suggest taking a look around for any clues.

To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The bonus progress actions are tied to the trail of bird seeds. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

When you finish, you’ll say that nothing looks out of the ordinary except for this small line of birdseed. Merula will think that a trail of birdseed has anything to do with missing pets and she’ll ask for your opinion. There are three different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

Then you’ll decide to head back to the castle to regroup and think about what to do next. Merula will tell you that if you’re heading to the castle, keep an eye out for Filch. She’ll say he came earlier and was in quite a foul mood. In the meantime, you’ll get an owl from Flich to go to his office.

Proceed to Flich’s Office when you are ready. You’ll tell him that you came as quickly as you could after receiving his message.

He’ll interrupt you and ask where she is.

You’ll be confused, but evidently, Mr. Filch thinks you’re to blame for the disappearance of his cat. 

To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The bonus progress actions are tied to Mr. Flich. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

After you finish, you’ll find out that Mrs. Norris has also gone missing, and Filch also saw a trail of birdseed at the scene. However, Mr. Filch will tell you not to pretend and he’ll add that he’s sure you and your friends are behind this. There are three options to choose from. If you like Mr. Flich, it is recommended to pick the second option.

He will then tell you to bring back his beloved pet, or he’ll talk to Dumbledore and blame you for the disappearance to get you punished.

You’ll then decide to go talk to Penny and share what you’ve learned, seeing if she has discovered anything as well.
