Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to Part 3 of our Walkthrough for the Budding Talent Adventure of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. After helping Leah Lee settle into her temporary role as Herbology professor, you and your friends successfully gathered the first two ingredients for her magical fertiliser — dragon dung and dried kelp.

With Hagrid’s help, you learned more about the importance of each component and strengthened your teamwork along the way. Now, your task continues as you search for the remaining ingredients needed to complete Leah’s special brew. The next challenge awaits — and it’s bound to get a bit messier!

You’ll need to wait three hours before you can continue.

Head to Open Ocean once the waiting time is over. When you arrive at the seaside near the Magical Creatures Reserve, after a brief conversation with your friends, you’ll suggest getting straight to work. Your goal is to gather as much dried kelp as possible for Leah’s upcoming lesson on brewing magical fertiliser.

To listen to gather Kelp, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. The five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Ben and Hagrid. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.

You’ve successfully gathered plenty of kelp, but there’s one small problem — it’s far too wet to use. Ben will then turn to you with a curious grin and ask if you can guess which charm would quickly dry all this kelp. The correct answer is “Hot Air Charm”

If you haven’t learned the spell yet, Ben will step in and cast it for you, successfully drying all the kelp.

The next ingredient on your list is animal bones. Hagrid will suggest asking Filch for some — if you dare — since he often sets up rat traps all around Hogwarts. However, Ben will admit that he can’t join you this time because he needs to study for his Charms exam. You’ll reassure him not to worry and say that you’ll ask Penny to come with you instead.

Proceed to the Corridor when you are ready. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. When you arrive, you’ll thank Penny for coming along and explain that you need animal bones, and that Hagrid suggested asking Filch for help.

She’ll agree with the plan, and together you’ll approach Filch, who will be accompanied by Mrs. Norris. You’ll start by mentioning that you were thinking about the rat traps he so cleverly places around Hogwarts — and how Mrs. Norris must enjoy them quite a bit.

Filch will nod proudly and say that she certainly does, explaining that the traps provide her favorite meals and that she brings them to his office almost every day.

Penny will then tell him that you need some animal bones and were hoping he might give you a few from Mrs. Norris’s leftovers. Filch will frown in confusion and ask why on earth you would need such a thing — prompting you to begin explaining.

To explain the situation, you need to earn five stars within three hours. The five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

After you explain everything, Filch will say that he supposes he believes you — and that if this professor of yours truly asked for animal bones, then maybe he can help. However, he’ll narrow his eyes suspiciously and ask why he should bother helping you at all.

No matter which response you choose, Filch will eventually sigh and agree to give you the bones.

Now, the only ingredient left to find is powdered root of asphodel. Penny will point out that it’s a pretty common potion ingredient and that she’s sure Professor Snape must have some in his personal stores.

The real problem, however, is whether Snape will actually agree to give it to you. That’s when you’ll realize you’ll need a Slytherin student whom Snape likes — perhaps Merula. Of course, convincing her to help won’t be easy, but you’ll decide to find her right away and give it a try.

Go to the Clocktower Courtyard to continue the story. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. When you arrive, you’ll thank Merula for agreeing to meet with you, though she’ll quickly remind you that it doesn’t mean she plans to help.

You’ll begin explaining that you need some powdered root of asphodel and that you’re hoping to ask Professor Snape for a bit of it. Once you mention that it’s for Leah Lee’s lesson, Merula’s attitude will shift — her interest in Leah will convince her to help after all.

However, she’ll warn you that you can’t just walk up to Snape right now and ask him. He’s in an especially foul mood today, and convincing him of anything won’t be easy. She’ll smirk and say that you’d better have a solid plan of approach — but luckily for you, she knows exactly what to do. Then she’ll tell you to pay close attention as she shares a few pointers on how to approach Professor Snape successfully.

To discuss Snape, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. The five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The bonus progress actions are tied to Merula. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.

Following that, Merula will ask you what the most important thing is when dealing with Snape. The correct answer is “Confidence”.

You will then make the decision to head to Professor Snape’s classroom together. Go to the Potions Classroom to continue the story.  When you enter, Professor Snape will tell you that you must have noticed the class has ended, which means the students are expected to leave.

You will explain that you just need to ask him for a potion ingredient, and that you are assisting Leah Lee with her Herbology lessons, where she is teaching you how to brew fertiliser. Merula will add that Leah Lee is the reason she is helping you, and that she also thought it might earn Slytherin some house points.

Snape will then ask which ingredient you need, and you will tell him it is powdered root of asphodel. He will agree to give it to you, but first he will ask one question: which famous potion has the powdered root of asphodel as one of its ingredients? The correct answer is “The Draught of Living Death”.

Once you answer correctly, he will grant you access to his ingredient shelves, but he will tell you that you must find the powdered root of asphodel yourself. This might be a bit challenging, so you will get started right away.

To search for the ingredient, you need to earn five stars within three hours. The five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

You will successfully find the powdered root of asphodel, but Merula will look a little disappointed that she didn’t find it first. If you like Merula, choose the first option.
