Chapter 18 – Take the Cake

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Eighteen of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume One of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. In the previous chapter, you stealthily infiltrated a social club meeting, where you uncovered Felix’s involvement in the art world. It seemed peculiar that he was both a club member and someone you had yet to meet. Later, during a discussion with Callum, you shared your findings. He expressed confidence that Ruby was dangerously close to solving the case, mentioning her notes on Felix Grooves. Callum emphasized the interconnectedness of your cases and stressed the importance of persuading Flump of this fact.

However, your search for Flump led to an unexpected encounter with your dear friend Barnaby, who wished to confide in you. Your conversation was interrupted by his Uncle Cecil, who delivered the sad news of his grandmother’s passing. As you gathered with your Hogwarts friends at the Hog’s Head Inn to comfort Barnaby, the moment’s seriousness underscored the importance of cherishing every moment with loved ones.

While consoling Barnaby over his recent loss, you realized the transience of life and decided that you should encourage your brother not to delay expressing his true feelings for Olivia.

(This task, some dialogs, and the location where you will meet with Jacob will differ based on your previous choice. In this Walkthrough, you will meet Jacob at the Maestro’s Music Shop.)

Go to the Maestro’s Music Shop to continue the story. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. Don’t forget to slide the screen left and right to see all available options. You will meet Jacob and mention you have something important to tell him. Your brother will joke.

After he shares his admiration of the Maestro’s Music Shop, he’ll inform you that he has news for you as well. You will inform him about Barnaby’s grandmum.

You will explain that Barnaby is broken up about it, but you and your friends are doing all you can to help. The following line of dialogue will differ based on your choice in the previous chapter.

You will further mention that Barnaby said if there isn’t a point, then we have to live in the moment. Which may actually be the point. That made you think about him and Olivia.

Jacob will ask you if Olivia was concerned as a friend or maybe more than a friend. This choice will have some impact on the dialogue later, but feel free to choose the option you like.

Your brother will ask you what you said to Olivia and after you tell him, he’ll say his news. To update Jacob, you need to collect five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Jacob and your character. Prioritize these actions to save a bit of energy. Don’t forget to slide the screen left and right to check all available actions.

The following lines of dialogue will differ based on what you said to Olivia.

Jacob will admit that you gave him a lot to think about, even more so after Barnaby’s wisdom. Then he will share his news.

Your brother will have a good feeling that what’s in that book could break the curse and restore his vision. Unfortunately, Jae will need some time to get it. You will encourage Jacob.

Next, you need to go back to work. Before that, you’ll have a waiting time of 4 hours.

Once the waiting time is over, go to the Research Lab in the ROCC Division. Once there, you can check what your coworkers have to say by tapping on the speech bubbles above their heads. Slide the screen left and right to check all available options. Your conversation with Flump will be funny.

You will explain that you have undeniable evidence that can finally tie your cursed quill case to the charity auction fire. Your boss will remind you about his past warnings.

Nonetheless, he will listen to you since he can’t change your mind. To give a full explanation of how these two cases are connected, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass.

There are plenty of bonus progress actions and they are tied to Olivia, Flump, and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Don’t forget to slide the screen left and right to check all available options.

You will explain that Ruby believed Felix Grooves was a suspect in your cursed quill case. You believe that she then tracked the name to the art gallery auction, where Felix was selling his paintings.

Your boss will admit that your argument is intriguing. He will only have one question.

Callum will suddenly appear.

Callum will inform the boss that he has uncovered more evidence. He will explain that he went back to check Gringotts books and there he found the name Felix Grooves, in dark pink ink.

Flump will ask how long you and Callum have been working together. Feel free to choose the option you like.

In the end, Flump won’t be able to deny the power of the connections to Felix Grooves you pointed out. He will think about combining the two cases before he decides.

Go to your Workspace to hear the Flump’s decision. Once you are there, you will meet your boss and ask him if he made his decision about combining the two cases. You’ll even call him a “Sir”.

Flump will explain that his decision wasn’t based on personal feelings, but facts. After he examined the evidence you and agent McClintock presented, he couldn’t ignore that these investigations are connected.

He will decide to combine the cases and you will work with Callum. You can respond to his decision in two different ways. This choice won’t impact the story, so feel free to choose the option that is more authentic to your character.

Flump will mention that there is a catch for you to work in this combined case. To learn more, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass.

There is only one bonus progress action and it is tied to Flump. Prioritize actions tied to him to save a bit of energy.

Flump will remind you that you are taking on the case that killed Ruby and that puts you in grave danger. You can respond in two different ways. This choice won’t impact the story, so feel free to choose the option you like.

Flump will explain the catch.

He will explain that you were already attacked by a Graphorn, so you should learn more about Magizoology. You will also need to learn more Auror skills. Lastly, you need to learn how to heal yourself if you get injured in the field. You can respond in two different ways. Feel free to choose the option you like. Your boss will like the second answer more.

Before you go to practice these specializations, Flump will have a surprise for you. He will gift you a Niffler Snout to protect you from danger.

Feel free to choose the option you like.

Your boss will explain that Snout is a standard-issue ROCC Niffler and that it has skills far beyond that of a normal Niffler. You will be curious about Snout’s skills. Flump’s answer will differ based on your previous reaction.

You will decide to talk to an agent who’s already been through the program. You’ll visit Olivia next.

Before you meet Olivia, you will have a waiting time of three hours.

Once the waiting time is over, go to the Break Room in the ROCC Division. Once you are there, you can check what other people have to say by tapping on the speech bubbles above their heads. Slide the screen left and right to check all available options.

Olivia will be happy to see you. She will spot your new Niffler friend. The following dialogue will differ based on your previous choice.

Olivia will explain that ROCC Nifflers can sniff out all sorts of stuff, provide surveillance and reconnaissance, and provide defense. She will further explain that the ROCC recruited the smartest Nifflers with the capacity to learn new skills. Your reaction will differ based on your previous choice.

You will update Olivia that Flump agreed to merge cases but you need to brush up on your specialisation skills. Olivia will have a theory on why Flump is helping you. To learn her perspective, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. It is recommended to have a full energy bar before starting this task.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Olivia, Callum, and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Don’t forget to slide the screen left and right to check all available options.

Olivia will excitedly say that this is a major development in your career. You and Olivia will mention an interesting detail. Flump received an Order of Merlin medal, but he technically hasn’t accepted it because he thought he didn’t deserve it. Olivia will not mention what is the reason.

Olivia will change the conversation to her favorite topic: Jacob. You will update her on how Jacob is doing and how Jae helped him track down the Moste Potente Potions book. Olivia will mention how the flat has been quiet lately.

You will tell Olivia that she sounds like she has feelings for Jacob.

She will finally admit it. You can react in two different ways. This choice won’t impact the overall story, so feel free to choose your preferred option. The dialogue will have further variations depending on your last conversation with her.

She will also warn that her feelings for him are very inconvenient, especially with everything Jacob is going through right now. She’ll further explain that she doesn’t know how he feels about her, and this could complicate things. The following line of dialogue may differ based on your previous choice when you talked with her.

She will be concerned that once Jacob gets back his vision, he won’t need her anymore and his feelings will change. If you like Olivia, pick the second option.

She will then ask you to keep her secret. If you like Olivia, definitely pick the first option.

You will thank Olivia for her advice regarding Flump and the specializations. You will decide to meet Jae and ask him about the progress on finding the Moste Potente Potions book.

Go to FitzyFlourpuff’s Enchanted Cakery to meet with Jae. Once you are there, you can check what people have to say by tapping on the speech bubbles above their heads. Slide the screen left and right to check all available options.

You will find Ismelda who is enjoying a cake. You will be surprised.

When she sees you she will stand up and leave the Cakery with sadness on her face.

You will find Jae and you will ask him why Ismelda is running away from you for the second time.

You will change the topic and you will ask him about progress with the Moste Potente Potions book. Unfortunately, he will say that his lead went cold… and then heated up…

After he’s done with jesting, he’ll inform you that he’s got the book.

Jae will keep a secret about how he found the book and he will have a feeling that something’s on your mind. You will inform him that you gained some new information about Olivia. The rest of the dialogue will differ based on your previous choice.

You will ask him for an unbiased opinion. He’ll be glad to repay the favor and he’ll remind you that he knows how to keep a secret. To get Jae’s opinion you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Start this task when your energy bar is full.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Jae and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.

Jae will be surprised that Jacob and Olivia have feelings for each other. You will explain that both of them won’t tell each other for different reasons. You will ask Jae for advice. Jae will remember one couple that were customers of his.

When you ask Jae if he explained to them what’s going on he will give you a hilarious answer.

You can react in two different ways. Feel free to choose the option you like.

You will get an idea. You need to get Jacob and Olivia in the same room at the same time.

You’ll decide to send Jacob an owl and meet up with him as soon as he can. In the meantime, you’ll get back to work on your training.

Now that you have completed the story, you can start the mandatory and optional chapter tasks. You need to complete one mandatory chapter task and two optional chapter tasks to unlock the next chapter. When you complete three tasks, the fourth one that is left will disappear.

Go to your Flat to start the mandatory chapter task. You’ll meet with Barnaby. You will help him deal with his loss by having one nice normal day with him, so he can take his mind off of things.

You’ll need to complete several objectives to finish this mandatory chapter task. Feel free to do them in any order you prefer.

While doing these objectives, it is recommended to select the duration that matches their star requirements.

Prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

Once you complete all of the tasks, hit the Collect button and return to your Flat.

After you complete all the objectives, you can claim the reward in the Wizarding World section of the Wizarding Life tab.

Choose the optional tasks you like. You can do Advanced Potions in the Research Lab where you can gain Healer Experience Points, Ministry Case Analysis in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement where you can gain Auror Experience Points, and Visit Garden at the Hagrid’s Garden where you can earn additional Hippogriff Club Experience Points.

Also, prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

This will conclude Chapter 18 of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume 1. You will receive 400 Coins and 2000 Experience Points.
