Chapter 18 – Transfiguration Curses

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Eighteen of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume Two of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. In the previous chapter, your investigation into your father’s past continued at the Ministry Archive, where Elton revealed that the envelope from your father’s amulet was crafted from a plant found only in Japan — a detail Jacob never mentioned. Despite the mystery, Flump abruptly sent you back into the field to assist Vega in Egypt.

Upon your return, Vega was surprised to see you, and the two of you quickly learned that the desert had become overrun with Sphinxes, creating panic in the local marketplace. You also reunited with Corey, who was searching for artifacts for her parents’ antique shop but quickly abandoned her plans due to the growing danger.

Venturing into the dunes, you encountered a mysterious Sphinx who challenged you to guess his name. After solving his riddle, you discovered the Sphinx was actually Diego Caplan, transformed by unknown magic. Vega attempted to restore him using a Transfiguration spell, but it failed — prompting the realization that it’s time to seek help from the greatest Transfiguration expert you know: Professor McGonagall.

When you arrive at Professor McGonagall’s classroom, you’ll thank her for agreeing to help, adding that you can see she’s quite busy cleaning. She’ll mention that cleaning is a welcome reprieve from the recent events at Hogwarts. You’ll then offer to help her tidy up and suggest that she explain what happened while you work together.

To discuss Hogwarts news, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass. 

Bonus progress actions are tied to the notes and Professor McGonagall. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

You’ll find out that several petrifications have occurred at Hogwarts, including more students and Sir Nicholas. Professor McGonagall will then ask what you make of it. 

There are three different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Professor McGonagall will say that the best thing you can do right now is focus on cultivating the Mandrakes needed to brew the antidote. With the Chamber of Secrets open, you must remain especially vigilant. Things have become dangerous for the students… there’s even been talk of closing the school.

There are two different options to choose from. Both of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

Following that, Professor McGonagall will ask what it was you wanted to talk to her about. You’ll explain that you wanted to discuss Transfiguration curses, asking if she has ever heard of people turning into creatures when it’s not self-transfiguration. You’ll also ask if there’s a way to turn them back that isn’t the General Counter-Spell. Naturally, she’ll find the question odd and ask what it has to do with your work in Magical Maintenance.

There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

In any case, she’ll say that she has a few books that might help with your problem and that she’ll send them to your flat. However, she’ll also suggest that you visit the Ministry Archives, as they have books on Transfiguration curses.

You’ll need to wait three hours before you can continue. Since this chapter is not time-limited, it is recommended to wait until this timer runs out.

Head to the Ministry of Archives once the waiting time is over. When you arrive there, Elton will ask, after a brief chat, if there’s any news regarding Jacob. You’ll tell him you haven’t heard anything new and add that you didn’t come for that reason. 

Instead, you’ll explain that Professor McGonagall suggested you come here because you need some rare books on Transfiguration curses. You’ll also mention that you don’t have much time to talk and that you’re in a bit of a hurry. So, he’ll immediately get to work searching for the books. However, unexpectedly, Olivia will enter the room.

You’ll ask her why she’s back from Japan so early and why she looks so… annoyed. She’ll apologize and explain that she’s been like this since returning from Japan, and that the problem is with your brother. She’ll then ask you to listen to what she has to say.

To learn why Olivia’s back, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The bonus progress actions are tied to Olivia. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

You’ll find out that Jacob has been ignoring Olivia the whole time, and he has been going off on his own to wander the city while she stayed at the hotel. She’ll ask you how you would feel if your partner left you at the hotel for hours every day. There are three options to choose from. If you like Olivia, it is recommended to pick the second or the third option.

At that moment, Elton will return with the books you need. He’ll also be surprised to see Olivia and will ask her to explain what happened—later—because he and Herbert have work to do. He’ll add that he’ll send you the necessary files by owl post. You’ll then suggest to Olivia that the two of you leave so as not to disturb Elton and Herbert while they work.

Proceed to the Alleyway when you are ready. You’ll ask Olivia to explain Jacob’s behavior in more detail.

To discover what Olivia knows, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

You’ll find out that Jacob got really into papermaking and was obsessed with discovering the origins of a specific envelope, so much so that he completely ignored their itinerary and left Olivia on her own. 

She’ll then ask if you would have been upset with Jacob’s behavior if you were in her shoes. There are two options to choose from. If you like Olivia, it is recommended to pick the first option.

She’ll then ask what it was you wanted to tell her. It’s recommended that you tell her about your father’s envelope.

At that moment, Callum will show up and be surprised to see Olivia there as well. He’ll mention that he wants to speak with you about something. So, you’ll suggest giving Olivia some time to regroup her thoughts and return to her work.

Go to the Workspace to chat with Callum. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say.

Callum will say that he wants to talk about Veruuca. You’ll immediately worry that she might have escaped again, but he’ll assure you she hasn’t and suggest that he explain everything.

To talk to Callum, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass.

He’ll then want to apologize for doubting that you actually saw Veruuca in Hogsmeade. There are three different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

He’ll then ask if you happen to know how she escaped. You’ll explain that she told you she had help from someone very close to you. He’ll then ask whether you think she was telling the truth or just messing with you. 

There are two different options to choose from. Both of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

He’ll then ask who you think she was talking about when she said it was someone close to you. There are three different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Shortly after, you’ll ask him why he’s been arguing so much with Flump lately. He’ll respond by saying that you already know what Flump is like. At this point, you’ll have the option to press him for more information or leave it at that, but whichever option you choose, you won’t get any answers.

In any case, Callum will have to get back to work, and you’ll decide to return to your flat to start studying transfiguration curses.

You’ll need to wait four hours before you can continue. Since this chapter is not time-limited, it is recommended to wait until this timer runs out.

Head to your Flat once the waiting time is over. There, you’ll be greeted by Ruby, who will ask what you’re doing when she sees the pile of books you’ve received. You’ll explain that you need to research a transfiguration curse in order to return your friend, who was transformed into a sphinx, back to normal. She’ll say that she might be able to help.

To learn about Ruby, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to the pile of books, and for the book in front of you, prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions. 

You’ll say you didn’t know she was so good at transfiguration or that she did so well in school, and she’ll respond by asking if it’s really that surprising that she got good grades. There are three different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Following that, she’ll write down a spell that, based on her experience, should work and help your friend. You’ll thank her and immediately decide to return to the ROCC.

Go to Three Broomsticks to start the mandatory chapter task. Penny is worried about her sister Beatrice, who sent her a troubling message about the Chamber of Secrets and a disastrous Valentine’s Day.

You’ll need to complete several objectives to finish this mandatory chapter task. Feel free to do them in any order you prefer.

While doing these objectives, it is recommended to select the duration that matches their star requirements.

Prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

Once you complete all of the tasks, hit the Collect button and return to the Three Broomsticks.

After you complete all the objectives, you can claim the reward in the Wizarding World section of the Wizarding Life tab.

Choose the optional tasks you like. You can research the topic at the Ministry Archives, where you can earn Spinx Experience Points, Magical Creatures Safekeeping at your DOMCR,  where you can earn Dragon Experience Points and Magizoology Experience Points, and Catch up with Hagrid at Hagrid’s Garden, where you can earn Hippogriff Experience Points.

Also, prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

This will conclude Chapter 18 of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume 2. You will receive 400 Coins and 2500 Experience Points.
