Chapter 19 – A Solution in the Sands
Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Nineteen of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume Two of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. As mysterious attacks continued at Hogwarts — including the petrification of Sir Nicholas — you turned to Professor McGonagall for guidance on Transfiguration curses. Her advice led you to the Ministry Archives, where Olivia made an unexpected and tense return from Japan, upset about Jacob’s erratic behavior. It became clear that your brother was obsessed with an old envelope, ignoring his partner and veering off course.
Meanwhile, Ruby offered a glimmer of hope by providing a powerful spell that could help restore your friend, who had been transformed into a sphinx. Just as you began to make progress, Penny received a troubling message from her sister Beatrice about the Chamber of Secrets and a disastrous Valentine’s Day. With growing concerns and dangerous secrets still unraveling, the next steps in your journey may prove more challenging than ever…

Proceed to the Egypt Dunes when you are ready. When you arrive, you’ll find that the desert is still swarming with sphinxes. After a while, Vega will approach you with a concerned expression and explain that there’s a problem — Diego has gone missing, and with so many sphinxes around, she’s been unable to locate him. She’ll apologize sincerely and ask if you’re upset with her.

Following that, you’ll set off to search for Diego. To identify Sphinx Diego, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. Three stars are required to pass.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Sphinx next to your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions.

Luckily, you’ll find Diego and mention that you hope the spell Ruby taught you will work to bring him back to normal. After a few tense moments, you’ll cast the spell—and Diego will finally return to his usual self.

However, you’ll notice that Diego is still speaking a bit in riddles, so Vega will advise you to keep an eye on him until he fully returns to normal. You’ll agree with her and decide to head to the marketplace for some tea with Diego.
You’ll need to wait four hours before you can continue. Since this chapter is not time-limited, it is recommended to wait until this timer runs out.

Head to the Egypt Marketplace to talk with Diego once the waiting time is over. You’ll ask him how he’s feeling now, and he’ll say he feels much better and has stopped speaking in riddles, though he still feels a bit dazed and confused. You’ll then ask him to tell you everything he remembers seeing and learning before he turned into a Sphinx.
You’ll ask him how he’s feeling now, and he’ll say he feels much better and has stopped speaking in riddles, though he still feels a bit dazed and confused. You’ll then ask him to tell you everything he remembers seeing and learning before he turned into a Sphinx.

To discuss what happened, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The bonus progress actions are tied to Diego. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.

You’ll learn that his boss sent him to scout the dunes to check whether the information about some treasure was accurate. And it seems like it was—since he found a Gringotts mine cart. However, he never got to see what was inside it. As soon as he got close to the cart, he was turned into a Sphinx.
Following that, you’ll have the chance to choose one more question to ask him. There are three different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

You’ll conclude that there must be a curse surrounding the mine cart—one that is turning people into Sphinxes. Determined to get to the bottom of it, you’ll decide to return to the dunes to examine the mine cart once more, hoping it might lead you to some answers.
Proceed to the Egypt Dunes when you are ready. When you arrive, Vega will express how glad she is that Diego is feeling better. She’ll also remind him to be cautious—she knows that finding the treasure is his priority, but your priority is to break the curse. Diego, however, will insist on going to the mine cart himself to check if there’s anything there that might help you, and he’ll ask what you think about that plan.
There are two different options to choose from. Both of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

In any case, whether it’s you or Diego who approaches, nothing will happen near the mine cart—until a massive sphinx suddenly leaps out in front of you. Without hesitation, it recites a riddle that you must solve:
“I am a hunger that gnaws at the soul,
a growing desire that always takes its toll.
I can lead one to madness, drive one to crime,
and ruin a life in no time. What am I?”
You’ll be given three answer choices—but none of them are correct. No matter which one you choose, the outcome will be the same: the sphinx challenges you to a duel.

Duel with the Sphinx – Quick Strategy

The Sphinx has higher stats, so you’ll need a smart approach. Here’s how to increase your chances of winning:
- Start with Depulso – a strong opening hit can give you the upper hand.
- Use Flipendo or Stupefy – these spells can stun the Sphinx, giving you more control.
- Watch your stamina – if it drops below 50%, heal immediately. Don’t take risks!
- Adapt to her moves – if she plays aggressively, respond with defensive stances.

Priority: Depulso → Flipendo → Heal when needed
The duel costs 500 coins – so make every move count!
However, even after you defeat the Sphinx, she still won’t allow you to approach the mine cart.
Vega will ask why the Sphinx still refuses to let you through. There are three different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

You’ll realize that defeating the Sphinx isn’t enough—you actually need to solve her riddle to make any progress. Hoping to get some help, you’ll decide to meet up with Talbott and Tulip, who are both known for being excellent at solving riddles.
You’ll need to wait three hours before you can continue. Since this chapter is not time-limited, it is recommended to wait until this timer runs out.

Head to the Former Student Centre once the waiting time is over. You’ll tell them that you need their help but can’t share too many details because of your job. You’ll add that there’s a riddle you need to solve. Despite the mystery, Talbott and Tulip will agree to help you.

To solve the riddle, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Tulip and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.

However, you’ll run into trouble with this riddle, and Tulip and Talbott will ask who even gave you this blasted riddle in the first place. You’ll reply that it was just a treasure hunter you ran into on a trip to Egypt.
Tulip will frown in surprise and add that they give impossible riddles and steal stuff out of greed. That will give you an idea for the solution: that’s it, a hunger that gnaws at the soul, takes its toll, drives one to crime—the answer is greed.

Naturally, Talbott and Tulip will be curious to know what’s really going on. You’ll be given three different options to respond. If you’re fond of Talbott and Tulip and want to show your trust in them, choose the second option.

In any case, you’ll thank your friends and decide to head back to the dunes to finally solve the riddle.
Proceed to the Egypt Dunes when you are ready. When you arrive, you’ll notice that Bill and Diego are having a heated argument. Curious, you ask what’s going on. It turns out Bill doesn’t approve of Diego working for a treasure hunter—he believes they desecrate historical sites and steal cultural artefacts. Diego tries to explain that this isn’t true, but Bill refuses to listen, insisting that real treasure hunting is about preserving history and protecting artefacts.
At this point, you’ll have the option to choose whose side you’re on—Bill’s or Diego’s. Whichever side you choose won’t impact the story overall, but it will slightly change a few lines of dialogue that follow.

Following that, you’ll explain to Bill everything that’s been happening—how you suspect there’s a curse that turns people into sphinxes whenever they get near the Gringotts mine cart.
This line will differ based on your previous choice.

You’ll say that you’re confident you now have the answer to the riddle, but you’ll add that you want to talk about your intentions before approaching the mine cart — to see if your hypothesis is correct.

To discuss motivations, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The bonus progress actions are tied to your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.

The first time Diego approached the mine cart, he was motivated by the desire for treasure, but the second time, he only wanted to help you. That’s why he didn’t turn into a sphinx again; his intentions were no longer rooted in greed.
Bill will fully understand what you’re saying and advise you to tell the sphinx the answer right away. After a few moments, once you speak the answer, it will turn out to be correct, and all the sphinxes will transform back into the people they once were.

This means the curse is finally broken. However, when you approach the mine cart to see what’s inside, you’ll find absolutely nothing — which is very strange.
If the cart was empty all along… then what was the sphinx guarding?
Go to ROCC Divison to start the mandatory chapter task. There, you’ll talk to Olivia to find out what happened during her and Jacob’s journey.

You’ll need to complete several objectives to finish this mandatory chapter task. Feel free to do them in any order you prefer.

While doing these objectives, it is recommended to select the duration that matches their star requirements.

Prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

Once you complete all of the tasks, hit the Collect button and return to ROCC Divison.

After you complete all the objectives, you can claim the reward in the Wizarding World section of the Wizarding Life tab.

Choose the optional tasks you like. You can Wrangle Books at the Research Lab, where you can earn Spinx Experience Points, hang out with friends at the Former Student Centre, where you can earn Hippogriff Experience Points, and do Obscure Foraging at Forest Grove, where you can earn Dragon Experience Points.

Also, prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

This will conclude Chapter 19 of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume 2. You will receive 400 Coins and 2500 Experience Points, and also unlock Diego for hangouts.
And so, the curse that turned treasure seekers into sphinxes was finally broken—not with force, but with insight, compassion, and the courage to question one’s own motives. Though the mine cart turned out to be empty, its true purpose was never to guard gold, but to test the hearts of those who sought it. In the end, it wasn’t treasure that mattered, but the truth uncovered and the people restored. With questions still lingering and secrets yet to be revealed, the journey is far from over—but for now, a heavy shadow has lifted from the dunes.
Thank you for reading.
