Chapter 20 – Respite

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Twenty of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume Two of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. In the previous chapter, you returned to the Egypt Dunes only to find the desert teeming with sphinxes — and Diego mysteriously missing. After a tense search, you managed to locate him and use Ruby’s spell to bring him back to his human form. Though he still spoke in riddles at first, a calming moment over tea helped jog his memory. He recalled encountering a Gringotts mine cart before being transformed, leading you to believe the cart itself was cursed.

Upon returning to the dunes, your suspicions grew when a powerful sphinx emerged and challenged you with an unsolvable riddle. Even after defeating her in a duel, she refused to let you pass. Realizing brawn wasn’t enough, you turned to Talbott and Tulip for help. Together, you deciphered the riddle — the answer was greed — and returned to face the Sphinx again.

The answer broke the curse, transforming the affected sphinxes back into people. But when you finally inspected the mine cart, you found it completely empty. It became clear: the cart was never guarding treasure — it was guarding the truth. The curse wasn’t about gold or gems, but about testing the hearts of those who sought it.

Now, with the curse lifted and Diego restored, questions still remain. What was the true origin of this test? Who created it, and why? And if this trap was meant to reveal something deeper, what else lies hidden beneath the sands of Egypt?

Proceed to the ROCC Division when you are ready. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. When you arrive, Vega and Flump will be waiting for you. Flump will ask you to report on how you completed the case.

To debrief on Egypt, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass. 

Bonus progress actions are tied to Flump and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.

You’ll explain that a giant sphinx was blocking access to the Gringotts minecart. The answer to the riddle it gave you—and the reason people were turning into sphinxes—was greed. If someone approached the cart without greedy intentions, they wouldn’t be transformed.

Once you solved the riddle, the sphinx crumbled into stone. However, when you finally reached the minecart, it was completely empty, which struck you as strange—why would a sphinx guard something that held nothing?

Naturally, Flump will have a different perspective. He’ll remind you that you don’t work in the department that investigates cursed objects, and as far as he’s concerned, your assignment in Egypt has been successfully completed.

There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

In any case, he’ll reward you by giving you the rest of the day off, allowing you to enjoy some free time. You’ll decide to use the opportunity to meet up with Diego and see how he’s doing now that he’s no longer a sphinx.

Go to the Toothill Duelling Club to check on Diego. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. When you arrive, he’ll say it’s nice to see you, especially now that things aren’t askew. His choice of words will strike you as odd, so you’ll ask if he’s still feeling any side effects from the curse. He’ll assure you that he’s not.

At this point, you’ll have the option to either press him further or let him go. Choose whichever you prefer—it won’t affect the story.

In any case, you’ll find out that Diego is currently unemployed and no longer working as a treasure hunter’s assistant. You’ll reassure him not to worry—there are plenty of jobs in London he could consider. Then, you’ll suggest making a plan together to figure out where he could work next.

To help Diego plan, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to a watchful referee and Diego. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions. 

Diego will explain that he’s looking for a job where he can travel, duel, and do fun, exciting things—but also one that involves a bit of organisation. 

He’ll say that he couldn’t turn down a dream job over a few minor misdeeds, and then ask you, What would you have done in his place.

There are two different options to choose from. Bothof them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

However, just as you’re about to start discussing possible job options, Corey will suddenly appear—much to your surprise. She’ll explain that she needs an assistant to keep her safe while she replenishes her family’s antique shop. Specifically, she’s looking for a travelling companion with an excellent duelling record and impeccable organisational skills.

You’ll laugh and point out that the perfect wizard for the job is standing right next to her—Diego.

You’ll decide to leave them alone to discuss the job, and Corey will tell you that Barnaby is outside, very upset. She’ll ask if you could talk to him, and you’ll gladly agree.

Proceed to the High Street when you are ready. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say.

Barnaby is feeling nervous again—he’s planning to confront his grandmother’s portrait soon, but he’s starting to think it might be a bad idea. You’ll realise that what he truly needs right now is a bit of a pep talk to help him find the courage to finally face his gran once and for all.

To give a pep talk, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. Three stars are required to pass. 

The bonus progress actions are tied to your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.

You’ll tell him that he needs to remember no one has the right to talk down to him—not even his grandmum. You’ll add that it’s time for him to take control of his life. He has a job at the Ministry he loves, and a home filled with friends who care about him. And at the end of the day, he’s dealing with a portrait, not the real Grandmum Lee.

Still, Barnaby will admit he feels a little empty. Even though his grandmother wasn’t always kind, and it’s been a while since she passed, it still hurts to think she’s truly gone. 

There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

You’ll gently say that it seems like he’s been putting off this talk because he wasn’t ready to accept that his grandmum was truly gone. Barnaby will pause for a moment, then nod and admit that might be true. But now, he’ll add, he feels ready to talk to her—and that, thanks to your words, he already feels a bit better.

Go to Barnaby’s Parlour to support Barnaby. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say.

When Barnaby begins speaking with his grandmother’s portrait, she immediately starts provoking him, making it hard for him to get a word in. Realizing he’s struggling, you’ll decide to step in and interrupt the conversation. You’ll say firmly that you truly believe it’s important she listens to Barnaby — that what he has to say concerns the household.

You’ll say that you’d like to be considered a moderator of this discussion — someone who will ensure that both Barnaby and his grandmother have equal chances to speak. They’ll agree to this arrangement, allowing the conversation to continue more fairly.

To help Barnaby, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Barnaby and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.

Barnaby will tell his grandmother that she can’t treat him and his friends like nuisances—they’re not guests in the house, they live there.

After a brief silence, his grandmother will surprisingly acknowledge him as the head of the household.

This will catch Barnaby off guard, as he didn’t expect her to change her stance so easily. There are two options to choose from. If you like Barnaby, it is recommended to pick the first option.

Grandmum Lee will tell Barnaby that she’s willing to help him with managing the house whenever he needs guidance, but she won’t tolerate shoes on the cushions because it’s unsanitary.

You’ll agree that it’s a reasonable rule. Barnaby will suggest celebrating this moment, but you’ll remind him that you need to leave to meet Olivia.

Go to the Three Broomsticks to meet Olivia. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. 

Olivia is worried about your brother, who still hasn’t returned from Japan. She’ll tell you she needs to ask a favor and will ask how you would feel about going to Japan to talk some sense into your brother.

There are two different options to choose from. Both of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

In any case, you’ll decide to help her. You’ll suggest that you both talk a bit, come up with a plan, and decide how to approach Jacob. To plan with Olivia, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to the wizard behind Olivia and Olivia. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions. 

You’ll explain that the best way to convince Jacob to come home is for him to truly understand how much his actions have upset Olivia, and how much it’s affecting you as well.  Olivia will then say that she thinks she knows where Jacob is and just needs to find a Portkey to get you there. With that, your journey to Japan is about to begin.

Go to your Flat to start the mandatory chapter task. Diego needs some help—he’s been away for a long time, and it’s up to you to show him around and bring him up to speed with what’s been happening.

You’ll need to complete several objectives to finish this mandatory chapter task. Feel free to do them in any order you prefer.

While doing these objectives, it is recommended to select the duration that matches their star requirements.

Prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

Once you complete all of the tasks, hit the Collect button and return to your Flat.

After you complete all the objectives, you can claim the reward in the Wizarding World section of the Wizarding Life tab.

Choose the optional tasks you like. You can Parlour Chat at the Barnaby’s Parlour, where you can earn Dragon Experience Points, Explore The ROCC at the ROCC Division, where you can earn Hippogriff Experience Points, and Magical Creature Bonding at your Flat, where you can earn Hippogriff Experience Points and Magizoology Experience Points. 

Also, prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

This will conclude Chapter 20 of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume 2. You will receive 400 Coins and 2500 Experience Points, and also unlock Diego for hangouts.

With Olivia’s lead and a clear plan in mind, you’re ready to face the challenges ahead. Convincing Jacob won’t be easy, but understanding, honesty, and determination will guide you through.
