Chapter 21 – Next Stop: Japan!

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Twenty-one of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume Two of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. Previously, your investigation led you back to the ROCC Division, where Flump awaited your final report on the Egyptian case. After recounting the strange events surrounding the sphinx and its riddle about greed, Flump declared the mission a success, though he questioned the significance of guarding an empty minecart. With your task complete, you were given the rest of the day off.

You chose to spend that time checking in on Diego at the Toothill Duelling Club. Although no longer cursed, Diego seemed off, and you learned he was now out of work. Just as you began helping him consider new career options, Corey arrived unexpectedly. She was in search of a well-traveled, organised duelist to assist her on her next journey—and Diego was the perfect match. The opportunity was too good to pass up.

Before long, you were asked to help another friend, Barnaby, who was struggling with the idea of confronting his late grandmother’s portrait. With your support, he gathered the courage to face her. Though their conversation began tensely, you helped moderate it, leading to a surprising moment of understanding. His grandmother finally acknowledged Barnaby as the head of the household, on the condition that no one puts shoes on the cushions.

No sooner had you said your goodbyes than Olivia reached out, deeply worried about Jacob, who still hadn’t returned from Japan. She asked you to help convince him to come home. With a Portkey journey on the horizon, it’s time to begin a new adventure—one that might bring your brother back for good…

Proceed to your Flat when you are ready. When you arrive, Ruby will be waiting for you. She’ll urgently say that she needs to talk to you. You’ll explain that you’re in a rush and have to leave for Japan. Curious, she’ll start asking why. You’ll tell her it’s a personal matter. Then, she’ll ask if you trust her to handle things on her own while you’re away.

There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Then, you’ll ask her what she wants to talk to you about. She’ll say she needs your opinion and ask you to listen carefully.

To talk about Merula, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass. 

Bonus progress actions are tied to Ruby. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

You’ll find out that Merula has been following her constantly whenever she’s out on a mission to track Eris. You’ll ask if Merula might be suspicious about her identity, but she’ll say she’s not sure, only that she’s been extremely careful. Then, she’ll ask if you think you should be worried about Merula finding out something.

There are two different options to choose from. Both of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

You’ll need to wait three hours before you can continue. Since this chapter is not time-limited, it is recommended to wait until this timer runs out.

Head to the Breakroom once the waiting time is over. When you arrive, Flump will tell you to be quick, as he doesn’t have much time. You’ll then begin explaining what the problem is.

To update Flump, you need to earn five stars within three hours. The five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The bonus progress actions are tied to your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

You’ll tell him that you’re very worried Merula might discover Ruby’s true identity and jeopardize your secret operation.

If you’re dating Merula, you’ll get an additional line of dialogue.

Flump will say he’s planning to transfer Ruby to another department, but you’ll point out that Ruby does her own investigating in her free time, so if her schedule is the opposite of Miss Snyde’s, she’ll still be able to investigate while Merula is working. He’ll mention that Ruby also uncovered a few promising leads, so he might assign another agent to follow up on them. Then he’ll add that it’s time for Ruby to finally move out of your flat, and ask what you think about that.

In any case, when you ask him for a few days off to deal with a personal matter, he’ll agree and say that the gargoyles haven’t summoned you, so you’re free to go for a few days. He’ll then add that Olivia told him she’s waiting for you to give you something before you leave. You’ll thank him and head straight to her.

You’ll need to wait four hours before you can continue. Since this chapter is not time-limited, it is recommended to wait until this timer runs out.

Head to Workspace once the waiting time is over. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. 

When you arrive, you’ll notice Olivia is still upset about Jacob. She’ll hand you a coin—it’s a Portkey that will take you to Japan, specifically to the arcade where Jacob has been hiding out. 

You’ll ask why you can’t just Apparate there, and she’ll explain that there’s an Anti-Apparition charm around the area, and there are limits to how far you can Apparate. 

You’ll then ask her to tell you more about the arcade because you have a feeling it’s not your average place to play games.

To learn about the arcade, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. The five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Olivia and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

She’ll explain that it really is just an arcade, which is exactly why it works as a neutral meeting place for witches and wizards. There are all sorts of games and tasty snacks, but you can’t use magic there, since it would interfere with the electricity and risk exposing the magical world to Muggles. There’s also an arcade worker named Kai, who Jacob seems to be using as a source of information.

Following that, she’ll ask what you think about the arcade based on everything she’s just told you. There are three different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

After that, you’ll thank Olivia, take your Portkey coin, and set off for Japan.

You’ll teleport into a fascinating arcade filled with all sorts of exciting games. 

Before long, Kai will approach you and immediately recognize, by the look on your face, that you’re Jacob’s sibling. He’ll point out that Jacob is over in the corner, and add that if you need anything, you’re welcome to ask him for help.

When you walk over, Jacob will look at you in surprise and ask what you’re doing there. There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

You’ll ask him if his stay here has something to do with the amulet, and he’ll say it does—then he’ll ask you to hear him out before jumping to any conclusions.

To hear Jacob out, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. The five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Jacob and the man in the white shirt. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions. 

He’ll tell you that he thought he could take Olivia on a holiday and do some research on his little side project at the same time. He and Olivia hadn’t decided where to go yet, then Elton told him the envelope came from Japan.

You’ll tell him that he should’ve told Olivia about it, but he’ll say he promised her he was done with the amulet and Verucca. Now, he can’t admit otherwise—because she’ll realize he lied to her.

In any case, he’ll say he hopes Olivia will forgive him and add that he bought her a gift. Then, he’ll ask what you think of the present.

He’ll ask you to give the gift to Olivia, and add that he wants you to know that as soon as he finds what he came here for… it’s going to be something big — and he wants you to be there for it.

Go to your Barnaby’s Parlour to start the mandatory chapter task. Barnaby needs your help — now that he’s become the head of the household, there are a lot of responsibilities resting on his shoulders. Help him take care of those duties and make him feel confident and supported in his new role.

You’ll need to complete several objectives to finish this mandatory chapter task. Feel free to do them in any order you prefer.

While doing these objectives, it is recommended to select the duration that matches their star requirements.

Prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

Once you complete all of the tasks, hit the Collect button and return to your Flat.

After you complete all the objectives, you can claim the reward in the Wizarding World section of the Wizarding Life tab.

Choose the optional tasks you like. You can do Magical Maintenance Cover at DMLE, where you can earn Dragon Experience Points, Sort Mail at your Flat, where you can earn Hippogriff Experience Points, and Catch Up At Home at your Flat, where you can earn Spinx Experience Points.

Also, prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

This will conclude Chapter 21 of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume 2. You will receive 400 Coins and 2500 Experience Points.
