Chapter 22 – The Search for Ryu

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Twenty-Two of Year Seven of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. During the previous chapter, you rushed to the Hospital Ward after hearing that Jacob got injured. He was unconscious when you got there, and you learned that he suffered terrible burns. After examining his wounds, you figured out that his injuries were likely caused by the dragon fire. You then went to talk with Moody to see if he knew anything about what Jacob was doing when he got injured. Unfortunately, he couldn’t say much, so you decided to see answers elsewhere.

You went to Knockturn Alley with Corey to find Mundungus Fletcher and see if there’s anything he can tell you. Once you found him, the two of you dueled, and you learned that Jacob was looking for an artefact ‘R’ was after. You remembered that Jacob was mumbling something about the dragon claws, so you went to talk with Penny about those. You learned that powdered dragon claw has a brain-boosting effect.

Later on, you went back to see how Jacob was doing. Sadly, the burn-healing paste had no effect on his injuries. You tried talking to Jacob while he was unconscious, and he mentioned the word ‘Ryu’. Unfortunately, neither Madam Strout nor you knew what the word meant, so you decided to do some research.

But before that, you should take care of lessons and assignments. Proceed to Muggle Studies when you are ready. To unlock the Toaster lesson, you will need to obtain a total of nine stars from Muggle Studies classes. Pick the class duration you prefer and hit Start to begin.

During these classes, prioritize bonus progress actions if you want to save as much energy as possible.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks successfully to earn some extra Empathy points.

Return to the classroom once you obtain enough stars to unlock the lesson. To complete the Toaster lesson, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

During the lesson, you’ll be asked a question about toasters.

Once you earn the fifth star, you’ll need to study the toaster. Trace the path on the screen to do so.

You’ll earn a reward for completing the lesson.

Proceed to the reception area of St. Mungo’s once you are ready to start the assignment. Madam Strout will tell you there is a delicate matter she needs your help with.

Apparently, a witch came to St. Mungo’s with a werewolf bite. Her wound was treated, but sadly, there is no permanent cure for lycanthropy. Madam Strout will ask if you are familiar with Wolfsbane potion. You’ll nod and say that you are, and Madam Strout will say that they need more Wolfsbane potions to help the patient.

You’ll need to complete several tasks to finish the assignment. Feel free to do them in any order you want.

While completing these tasks, be sure to select the duration that matches their star requirements.

Prioritize bonus progress actions if you want to save some energy.

Also, try your best to succeed at mini-tasks to earn some extra attribute points.

Return to the reception area of St. Mungo’s once you complete all of the tasks. When you arrive, Madam Strout will thank you for everything you’ve done to help.

She’ll explain that most werewolves are unable to make the Wolfsbane potion on their own. She will also say that the werewolf witch thanked you for your help and for treating her like a person. Once again, Madam Strout will praise you for assisting her. You’ll receive a reward for completing the assignment.

Now that you’re done with lessons and assignments, you can continue the story. Proceed to the reception area of St. Mungo when you’re ready. Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on them if you want to see what they have to say. You’ll tell Chiara that the burn-healing paste isn’t working on Jacob’s injuries.

You’ll also say that you couldn’t find out what your brother was doing when he got injured. Luckily, Chiara might have a lead. She’ll say that she ran into Charlie while she was doing her research on dragon burns. As it seems, the two of them were looking at Jacob’s wounds.

Charlie will say that Jacob was definitely not injured by a dragon, and Chiara will assume that it was some sort of spell.

You’ll tell them about the words Jacob said while he was unconscious.

Charlie will find the word familiar, but he won’t know what it means. You’ll suggest trying to figure it out together. The three of you will then try to figure out what the word ‘Ryu’ means. Theorizing with friends requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus progress actions tied to your character, Charlie, and a nearby Healer. Focus on those if you want to save as much energy as possible.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to figure out which spell was used to injure Jacob. However, Charlie will be certain that he’s seen the word ‘Ryu’ in some of his dragon books. He’ll wonder if there’s a connection between the words ‘Ryu’ and ‘R’. You will tell him that ‘R’ is still active and also add that you’ve been investigating them together with Mad-Eye Moody. On top of that, you’ll mention that Jacob was looking for an artefact ‘R’ is after.

Charlie will wonder why you didn’t say anything earlier. There are three options to reply with. This choice won’t significantly impact the story, so feel free to go with the option you prefer.

Chiara will offer her support after learning about ‘R’, and Charlie will suggest that someone in ‘R’ might know what ‘Ryu’ means. Inspired by this, you’ll quickly decide to return to Hogwarts to find Merula.

You’ll need to wait three hours until she’s ready to meet with you. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Proceed to the Great Hall once the waiting time is over. Upon arriving, you’ll be able to interact with some of your friends and check out what they have to say. The Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts will be eager to have a conversation with you.

You’ll express your desire to talk with Merula and begin by sharing details about your assignment at St. Mungo’s. However, she’ll interrupt, saying that you won’t dominate the conversation. In the ensuing awkward silence, Merula will calmly observe that something about you has changed.

She’ll point out that you’ve been snooping around lately. There are two options to reply with. If you like Merula, it is recommended that you go with the second option and agree with her.

You will tell her that you have some questions for her. Sadly, she won’t seem in the mood to answer them. In other words, you will need to persuade her first. The task window will display the recommended attribute levels as well as the cost of each attempt. Hit Start when you’re ready to begin.

This will be fairly similar to a meal with a friend. The attribute requirements aren’t too high, making this task easier. In any case, pick the answers that will convince Merula that she’s the only one who can help you. Below are some of the questions and their answers.

• What are your intentions? – They’re good, I promise. (Empathy)
• This might be a prank… – It’s not a prank, Merula. (Knowledge)
• Are you lying to me? – I’m not lying to you, Merula. (Knowledge)
• Why should I help you? – Only you can help me, Merula. (Empathy)
• Are we friends, <Name>? – I think we are. (Courage)
• Would you help me, if I asked? – Of course, I would help you. (Empathy)

In the end, Merula will agree to answer your questions and you’ll start by telling her about Jacob.

You will then tell her about the words he’s been mumbling about.

You’ll ask if Merula has any knowledge about the word ‘Ryu.’ She’ll agree to assist, and then she’ll suggest checking the restricted section of the library for information. Grateful for her help, you’ll thank her. Before heading to the restricted section, you’ll decide to find Jae, hoping he can aid you in sneaking into the library.

Proceed to the Patient Room once you’re ready to continue. Once you arrive, you’ll find Jae talking to Bilton Bilmes. You will quickly tell him that you need his help.

You’ll explain to Jae that you need to sneak into the library’s restricted section to find information for Jacob, but Madam Pince will be keeping a close watch. Recognizing the challenge, Jae will inquire about the kind of distraction needed. You’ll say that a simple distraction won’t be sufficient, you need a plan to get Madam Pince out of the library to ensure a successful entry into the restricted section.

Jae will suggest seeking assistance from Mr. Bilmes, a master prankster, to create a diversion for Madam Pince. Bilton will enthusiastically agree to help plan a prank that will effectively prompt Madam Pince to leave the library.

Shortly after, the three of you will start brainstorming. This requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

There are bonus progress actions tied to Jae and your character. Focus on those if you want to save some energy.

In the end, you’ll decide to use some hiccough sweets as a distraction.

However, you will need to find someone to deliver them, someone Madam Pince trusts. Jae will ask if you know anyone suited for the task. There are three options to choose from. The correct answer here is ‘Mr. Filch’.

If you’ve completed the Valentine’s Day Ball adventure, you will get an additional line of dialogue.

Jae will agree that Madam Pince trusts the caretaker, and the plan involves getting Mr. Filch to deliver hiccough sweets to create a distraction. Jae will suggest bringing someone along, and you’ll thank them before leaving the place.

You will need to wait four hours before you can continue. Since you will probably be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Proceed to the library once the waiting time is over. Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say. Liz will greet you and ask how you’re doing.

You’ll find it odd that Liz is trying small talk, and she’ll mention that Penny suggested it. Liz will wonder why you need her help, and you’ll quickly summarize recent events, including what happened to Jacob.

You’ll also mention that you need to access the library’s restricted section to find information that could help your brother. Liz will admit that she’s never been in the restricted section, and you’ll share that you got the information from someone without revealing that it was Merula who told you.

Liz will ask if you trust the person who gave you the information. There are three options to reply with. If you like Merula, it is highly recommended to pick the first option.

In any case, Liz will agree to help you and ask what you need her to do. You’ll explain that you need to deliver the box of hiccough sweets to Madam Pince, but since you can’t be the one to give her the sweets, you’ve come up with a plan to have Mr. Filch deliver them.

Liz will wonder if you’re certain that the caretaker will give the hiccough sweets to Madam Pince. Despite uncertainties, you’ll hope to convince him to do so. Moments later, Filch arrives and immediately confiscates the box of sweets.

You’ll tell Filch that the box of sweets wasn’t for you, and Liz will explain that she intended to give them to Madam Pince to thank her for all her hard work. Despite Flich’s uncertainty, you’ll quickly decide to convince Filch.

Convincing Filch requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting this task if you are low on energy.

Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus progress actions tied to Mr. Filch, Liz, and your character. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

In the end, you’ll manage to convince Mr. Filch that you have no ill intentions. Rather than returning the sweets to you, he’ll decide to be the one to deliver them to Madam Pince. He’ll then approach the librarian and offer her some sweets, and Madam Pince will happily take one.

Moments later, she will start hiccoughing uncontrollably, and she’ll immediately rush out of the library. Mr. Filch will quickly go after her. You will be happy with this turn of events.

Liz will comment on the whole situation.

Shortly after, the two of you will proceed to the restricted section of the library.

Proceed there when you are ready to continue. When you arrive, Liz will be slightly spooked out by the place.

She’ll ask what to look for in the restricted section, and you will tell her about the word Jacob was mumbling while unconscious.

Shortly after, the two of you will start searching the place, hoping to find something about the word ‘Ryu’ in the restricted section of the library. Searching the restricted section requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

Make sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus progress actions tied to your character, Liz, and one of the books. Focus on those if you want to save as much energy as possible.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to find any mentions of the word ‘Ryu,’ leaving you disappointed. Liz will suggest a different approach, recommending books related to fire burns. Following her lead, you’ll both discover a book that could contain valuable information to help Jacob.

Upon examination, you’ll discover that the book is about the history of the Mahoutokoro School of Magic, and Liz will wonder why it’s in the restricted section. Recalling the White-Robed Wizard’s expulsion from Mahoutokoro, you’ll find valuable information within its pages.

According to the book, there was a professor at Mahoutokoro named Dai Ryusaki who created a powerful weapon. Liz will wonder about the nature of this weapon, but the book doesn’t provide details. Realizing why you couldn’t find anything under ‘Ryu,’ you’ll then decide to seek more information from Corey to help solve the mystery and assist Jacob.
