Chapter 23 – The Legend of Dai Ryusaki and The Dark Scroll
Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Twenty-Three of Year Seven of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. During the previous chapter, you met with Chiara and Charlie at the reception area of St. Mungo’s, where you talked about your brother and the words he muttered while unconscious. Also, according to Charlie, Jacob wasn’t injured by the dragon fire. You also told them that ‘R’ is still active.
Afterward, you went to meet with Merula to see if there was anything she could tell you about the word ‘Ryu’. She advised you to search the restricted section of the library for answers. Unfortunately, one does not simply walk into the restricted section, so you decide to find a way to distract Madam Pince with a prank. Luckily, Jae and Bilton helped you come up with a prank to keep the librarian busy and give you enough time to look for answers. Thanks to Liz’s help, you were able to trick Filch into giving some hiccough sweets to Madam Pince.
The plan worked, and you were able to sneak into the restricted section. After looking around for a while, Liz found an interesting book. You learned that a long time ago, there was a professor at Mahoutokoro named Dai Ryusaki. He created a powerful weapon, but the book didn’t have any details on it. You decided to look further into the matter and find some answers.

However, before you start doing that, you should take care of lessons and assignments, so proceed to the Training Grounds when you are ready. To unlock the Surf and Jump Through Hoop lesson, you will need to earn a total of nine stars from Flying classes. Select the class duration you prefer and hit Start once you’re ready to begin.
Prioritize bonus progress actions whenever they are available if you are looking to save as much energy as possible.
Try to successfully complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some extra Courage points.
Head back to the Training Grounds once you earn enough stars to unlock the lesson. To complete the Surf and Jump Through Hoop lesson, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.
Do this like any other Flying class and you won’t have any trouble completing it.
Upon earning the fifth star, you’ll be tasked with performing the maneuver. Trace the path on the screen to do so.
Once you complete the lesson, your maximum energy will increase by one.
Proceed to the reception area of St. Mungo’s when you are ready to start the assignment. Mad-Eye Moody will ask if you’ve seen the Daily Prophet.
You’ll express concern and inquire about recent events, to which he will mention that a young Hit Wizard sustained injuries during the capture of a Dark Witch. Worried, you’ll inquire about the injured wizard’s well-being, and you’ll be relieved to hear that he received proper treatment at St. Mungo’s.
Nevertheless, due to the incident, the Minister is seeking a comprehensive report on the risks associated with the Hit Wizard profession. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Mad-Eye will request your assistance. Without hesitation, you’ll gladly agree to collaborate with him on the task.
To complete this assignment, you will need to finish several tasks. Feel free to do them in any order you prefer. However, keep in mind that one of the tasks requires you to win two duels, so be sure to do them in between other tasks.
While completing the tasks, it is recommended to pick the duration that matches their star requirements.
As always, focus on bonus progress actions whenever they are available.
Successfully completing the mini-tasks will earn you some attribute points.
Once you complete all of the tasks, hit the Collect button and return to the reception area of St. Mungo’s.
Mad- Eye will ask if you’ve finished the report. You’ll nod and say that you learned a lot about Hit Wizards.
Mad-Eye will remind you that training is vastly different from real danger, and you’ll say that you talked to the injured Hit Wizard and learned some things from him. Luckily, his recovery shouldn’t take long. Before you leave, Mad-Eye will congratulate you on a job well done. You will receive a reward for completing the assignment.
Now that the lessons and assignments are out of the way, you can continue the story. Proceed to the Courtyard when you are ready. Corey will be curious to know why you wanted to meet.
You’ll tell her that the Burn-Healing Paste is having no effect on Jacob’s injuries. Following that, Corey will ask you to tell her everything that happened since the last time she saw you. Catching up with Corey requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.
There is a bonus progress action tied to your character, so focus on it if you want to save some energy.
You will sum up some of the most important things.
You’ll mention your conversation with Merula, surprising Corey, and proceed to share your discovery of a book on the Mahoutokoro School of Magic in the restricted section. Following that, you’ll ask Corey if she’s familiar with Dai Ryusaki, to which she will excitedly confirm and express her admiration for the Legend of Dai Ryusaki and the Dark Scroll, one of her favorite tales.
Eager to learn more, you’ll request that Corey educate you on all she knows about it, discovering that, according to the legend, Dai Ryusaki successfully created an exceptionally potent mind-enhancing potion. However, the potion was deemed dangerous, so Ryusaki got arrested and his creation destroyed.
There was a rumor that before Ryusaki’s arrest, he wrote the potion ingredients on a Dark Scroll and concealed it, but it was never found, casting doubt on the legend’s authenticity. Considering the possibility, you’ll wonder if dragon claws could be among Ryusaki’s potion ingredients and ask Corey if anyone ever discovered the elusive scroll.
She’ll reveal that despite centuries of searching, no one has found it, leading to speculation about Jacob’s potential involvement, which could provide explanations for various mysteries.
Corey will find it hard to believe. There are two options to reply with. Since your theory does make sense, it is recommended to go with the second option here.
All things considered, ‘R’ should never be allowed to get their hands on the scroll. You’ll also recall what Mundungus Fletcher said after you dueled him in Knockturn Alley.
Corey will say that ‘R’ would definitely want to get their hands on the mind-enhancing potion. Still, no one knows where the scroll is or if the legend about it is actually true. On top of that, figuring out which protection spell was used on the scroll would be incredibly difficult. Shortly after, you’ll decide to go to Professor Dumbledore and see if he might be able to help you solve that mystery.
You will need to wait three hours until the Headmaster is ready to see you. Since you will probably be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.
Proceed to Dumbledore’s office once the waiting time is over. You will thank the Headmaster for agreeing to see you on such short notice.
He’ll say that he was hoping to have a word with you about recent events. As it seems, he’s well aware of what happened to Jacob. He’ll ask how your brother is doing. There are two options to reply with. There is no right or wrong option here. Simply go with the one you feel is the most appropriate.
Professor Dumbledore will ask you to share what you’ve discovered about Jacob’s injuries, and you’ll explain that they weren’t caused by a dragon. Expressing your concern, you’ll mention your intention to ask about protective spells, suggesting the possibility that Jacob’s wounds could be related to such a spell. Gratefully, you’ll kindly ask the Headmaster to share everything he knows about it, and thankfully, he’ll be more than willing to help.
Listening to the Headmaster requires earning five stars within three hours. Since all five stars are needed to pass, it is not recommended to start this task with an empty energy bar.
There are two bonus progress actions tied to Professor Dumbledore, so prioritize his actions if you want to save as much energy as possible.
You’ll discover that the spell responsible for Jacob’s injuries is likely Protego Diabolica. Professor Dumbledore will explain that this spell can generate a protective ring of black fire designed to harm the caster’s enemies, adding that it happens to be a favored spell of the current headmaster of Mahoutokoro School of Magic.
You’ll ask if Professor Dumbledore is familiar with the legend of Dai Ryusaki, and he’ll mention the uncertainty surrounding its authenticity. Seeking his opinion, he’ll explain that legends often contain some truth. Following his advice, he’ll recommend you return to St. Mungo’s. You’ll promptly decide to go and inform Madam Strout about Protego Diabolica.
Proceed to the reception area of St. Mungo’s when you are ready to continue. Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say. You’ll rush to Madam Strout and say that you need to talk to her.
You will say that you might know what caused Jacob’s injuries.
You’ll then tell her about Protego Diabolica and Madam Strout will be shocked to hear that. She’ll be surprised that Jacob was able to survive that spell.
She will thank you for the information you provided.
Shortly after Madam Strout will leave the reception area, Chiara will approach, and you’ll happily share the good news with her. Expressing her joy, Chiara will note your lingering worry about Jacob’s recovery, prompting her to ask what’s troubling you. Talking to Chiara requires earning five stars within one hour. Three stars are needed to pass.
Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus progress actions tied to your character and the Welcome Witch. Prioritize those if you want to save a bit of energy.
Chiara will say that she knows how it feels to lose control of a situation.
She’ll advise you to occasionally lean on others for support, and you’ll recognize the wisdom in her words. She’ll ask if you feel better after talking to her. There are two options to reply with. If you like Chiara, it is recommended to pick the first option.
She’ll suggest going to the Three Broomsticks while waiting for news. After considering it for a moment, you will agree to go.
Proceed to the Three Broomsticks when you are ready to continue. Upon arriving, you will be able to interact with some of your friends and see what they have to say. You will be surprised to see so many of your friends in Madam Rosmerta’s establishment.
Penny will smile and say that everyone arrived to provide emotional support. Apparently, Chiara was the one who informed them to come to the Three Broomsticks.
You’ll thank Chiara for being thoughtful and supportive. She’ll share that she informed others about ‘R’ and Jacob’s injury, making Penny sad to hear that ‘R’ is still a concern. The fate of Patricia Rakepick will be mentioned here.
You’ll say that you were sworn to secrecy. On top of that, no one wanted to go after ‘R’ when you brought it up during the last Circle of Khanna meeting.
Ben will point out that you might have to deal with ‘R’ again. Merula will remind him that everyone was invited to the Three Broomsticks to support you and your brother.
You’ll be surprised to hear Merula say that. You will also want to thank her for helping you earlier.
She will be confused, stating that she has no idea what you’re talking about. Shortly after, Chiara will suggest that all of you share some Butterbeer and relax together. Relaxing with friends requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.
Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are quite a few bonus progress actions available for this task, which should allow you to save some energy.
When you finish, you’ll thank Chiara for organizing everything. She’ll smile and say that she’s glad you were able to take your mind off your worries. She will also say that she has news from St. Mungo’s. As it seems, Jacob woke up, and he asked to speak with you as soon as possible.
You’ll thank Chiara for informing you about it. You will then decide to head to St. Mungo’s and talk to your brother.
You will need to wait four hours before you can continue. Since you will probably be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.
Proceed to the Hospital Ward once the waiting time is over. Once you arrive, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say. Jacob will be incredibly happy to see you, and he will thank you for saving his life again.
You’ll say that you were very worried about him. Jacob will notice that you are getting emotional. You can choose to start crying, get defensive, or put him in his place. There is nothing wrong with expressing your emotions, so there is no wrong option here. Simply go with the one you feel is appropriate for your character.
Your brother will apologize for everything you had to go through to save him. He’ll assume that you have a lot of questions, so he will be willing to answer them. You will ask him to start by telling you what he was doing when he got injured, and you will also ask him about Dai Ryusaki’s Dark Scroll. Jacob will smile and say that he has quite the tale to tell you.
Learning about Jacob’s adventure requires earning five stars within three hours. Since all five stars are needed to pass, it is not recommended to start this task if you are low on energy.
Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus progress actions tied to Jacob and your character, so focus on those if you want to save some energy.
You’ll learn that your brother went to Japan in pursuit of a legendary artifact ‘R’ was after, and he managed to gather information from some of the ‘R’ members. Curiously, you’ll inquire whether he actually found the Dark Scroll.
He’ll say that he managed to find one-half of the scroll. Unfortunately, he doesn’t know what happened to the other half.
He also managed to decipher one of the ingredients. You’ll figure out that the ingredient is Chinese Fireball claws since those were the words he was muttering while unconscious.
Needless to say, you don’t want the scroll to fall into the wrong hands.
You will remind Jacob that he should be resting. He will try to complain, but you will quickly make it clear that you’re not letting him out of bed until he’s fully recovered.
Luckily enough, you will be spending a lot of time in St. Mungo’s as part of your school project, so you will be able to visit your brother often. Jacob will ask if you have another adventure planned.
You’ll remind him that the two of you will soon need to testify against the White-Robed Wizard.
This will mark the end of Chapter 23 of Year 7. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 350 Coins and 2000 Experience Points.
Thanks to your help, Jacob got better, and he will soon fully recover from his injuries. In the meantime, you will continue working on your school project. What will be your next assignment? Find out in the next chapter of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery!
