Chapter 23 – Ruby Honeysuckle and The Cursed Quill

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Twenty-Three of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume One of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. In the previous part, you met with Olivia, who delivered some troubling news: your brother Jacob had gone missing. After a brief moment of contemplation, you assured Olivia that Jacob was likely out experiencing the world with his newfound sight, attributing his strange behavior to the potion he had taken. Despite your attempts to comfort her, Olivia was determined to search for Jacob while you had to return to work.

Back at the office, your boss, Flump, awaited you. You briefed him on the latest developments in your case and expressed your dilemma about not knowing the exact location of Foxglove Meadow. Understanding your problem, Flump directed you to an agent who was well-versed in geography and had just returned from a month-long assignment. You then went to meet this agent, and after a brief introduction and conversation, Agent Vega helped you locate Foxglove Meadow on the map.

Without wasting any time, you set out for Foxglove Meadow with your colleague, Callum. Upon arrival, you were captivated by the place’s fascinating and mysterious beauty. However, your admiration was abruptly interrupted by an attack from a person in a black cloak. Callum immediately retaliated, but the cloaked figure quickly overpowered him, igniting your anger and determination to confront this unknown assailant.  After a fierce struggle, you managed to defeat the cloaked figure. As you approached and pulled back the hood, you were shocked to discover that the face beneath the cloak was none other than your colleague, Ruby.

Proceed to Foxglove Meadow in the Forbidden Forest when you are ready to confront Ruby. You will be shocked to see that Ruby is alive.

You’ll demand an explanation from her immediately, adding that you’ve believed she was dead all this time, and now it turns out everything was a lie. You’ll say that you deserve to know the truth. To learn the truth, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. Three stars are required to pass. 

The bonus progress actions are tied to your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

When she’s finished explaining, things will become much clearer. Ruby knows who is behind all of this, and she also set a Graphorn loose to attack you because you were right about the case.

You’ll ask her why she faked her death, and she’ll say that she panicked and that it was the only thing she could think of to protect the person who owns the quill. She’ll add that she can’t imagine what you must think of her now because of everything. There are two options to choose from. If you like Ruby, it is recommended to pick the second option.

You’ll tell her that you came here looking for someone named Eris, and you’ll ask if Ruby is protecting her and if she is the owner of the quill. However, Ruby will say that Eris was very important in her life.

In that moment, your colleague Callum will wake up.

Callum will suggest going to ROCC immediately to resolve things, but you will explain that it’s not a good idea since everyone thinks Ruby is dead and a hero. You’ll add that the cursed quill is still out there and the case isn’t solved yet. 

He’ll agree with you and then suggest consulting your boss, Flump, and taking Ruby to your flat in the meantime. There are two different options to choose from. Both of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

These lines will differ based on whether you have completed the School Day Nostalgia Adventure.

Then you’ll decide to head to your flat with Ruby while Callum contacts Flump in the meantime. You’ll need to wait four hours before you can continue. Since you will probably be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait until this timer expires.

Go to your Flat once the waiting time is over. Flump will enter your flat after some time, and you’ll say that you didn’t expect him to come over when Callum said he would contact him. These lines will differ based on where you live.

You’ll ask him if he’s not surprised or shocked to see that Ruby is alive, and he’ll respond that it’s hardly the strangest thing that’s happened to him during his time in the ROCC. He’ll add that Callum explained everything to him.

Following that, Flump will suggest that you interrogate Ruby, adding that you’ve still got a case to close. To question Ruby, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The bonus progress actions are tied to Ruby. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

You’ll learn that Ruby met Eris Foxglove after she moved to London, and shortly after, they began dating.

She’ll add that it eventually turned out that the only thing Eris loves is herself and that she was in love with the idea of being loved. She’ll also say that when you mentioned that the ink is dark pink and that you think someone is copying signatures, she realized it was Eris’s quill, and the Graphorn attack, the art gallery fire, and faking her death were all part of the plan to protect her.

Flump will say that if she doesn’t know where Eris is, then you really don’t have a use for her. However, Ruby will say that she knows where Eris’s cursed quill is, adding that she found out after reading through some of Eris’s journals she left. She’ll say that she was on her way to that location but encountered you and Callum instead.

She’ll say that she can help you and knows the exact location of the cursed quill, and then she’ll ask if you believe her. There are three options to choose from. If you like Ruby, it is recommended to pick the first option.

In any case, you’ll ask Flump if he will allow Ruby to go with you. Of course, his answer will be no. Ruby will understand the situation she’s in and reveal to you that the quill is in a Red Cap’s Hole. Shortly after, you’ll be determined to go there immediately; however, Flump won’t let you go alone. He’ll insist on accompanying you. There are three options to choose from. If you like Flump, it is recommended to pick the first option.

Flump will then say that he’ll task Callum with staying at your flat with Ruby and coming up with ideas on what to do.

Proceed to the Red Cap’s Hole when you are ready to find the cursed quill. When you arrive there, you’ll see that it’s just you and Flump there.

Flump will suggest not wasting time and immediately starting the search. However, you’ll ask him if he was really concerned about you getting into trouble. He’ll tell you that you’re not special and that he’d be concerned about any agent, mentioning recent incidents where people walked into traps. 

He’ll allow you to ask him one question of your choice before starting the search. There are three different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Just as you’re about to start searching, three Red Caps will appear.

To incapacitate the Red Caps, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The bonus progress actions are tied to Flump. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

You will subdue two, but one will remain.

Trace the wand movement to cast Incarcerous.

The spell will hit the Red Cap, causing it to collide with a nearby chest.

From the chest will spill out the cursed quill at last, along with gold and several other items.

You’ll find some relief upon seeing the quill, mentioning that it appears Ruby was telling the truth about it. However, Flump will ask if you think it’s the real quill. There are two different options to choose from. Both of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

In any case, you’ll decide to go to the laboratory to test if it’s the real quill. Unfortunately, you’ll need to wait three hours before you can continue. 

Go to the Research Lab once the waiting time is over to test the quill. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. There, you’ll find Agent Vega waiting for you.

She’ll notice that you were lucky in Foxglove Meadow and found the quill. However, Flump will suggest that instead of talking, she can assist you in testing the quill, which she’ll gladly accept. To test the quill you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The bonus progress actions are tied to Agent Vega. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

Once you finish the testing, you’ll realize that it’s indeed the quill you’ve been searching for. It matches the ink from the forgeries, and all of the signatures you tried were perfectly copied.

Trace the wand movement to cast Finite Incantatem.

After you cast the spell, the curse will finally be broken, indicating that you’ve successfully solved the case.

Following that, Flump will take the quill and leave, leaving you puzzled. Vega will comment that Flump is like that, reassuring you that Flump won’t take credit for someone else’s success. There are two options to choose from. If you like Flump, it is recommended to pick the first option.

Vega will tell you that Flump isn’t as bad as you think and hopes that you and he will get along one day. She’ll advise you never to judge a book by its cover. Olivia will interrupt your conversation, informing you that she’s found Jacob.

Proceed to the Hog’s Head Inn when you are ready to meet with Jacob. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. When you arrive, you’ll notice that Jacob’s sight, unfortunately, hasn’t returned, and the potion was unsuccessful. Olivia will ask you what you have to say about it. There are two options to choose from. If you like Jacob, it is recommended to pick the first option.

He’ll then say he wanted to apologize for disappearing and mention he had some time to think, and something became clear to him. To learn what became clear, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to the shady patron, Jacob, and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions. 

Jacob has realized that his happiness doesn’t depend on his sight or breaking the curse. He’ll say he’s already happy because of you and Olivia being there for him, and of course, he won’t give up on breaking the curse, but he’ll add that you and Olivia are his priority now.

Jacob will suggest that perhaps you can start with the new plan at your flat. However, you’ll remember that Ruby is with you, so you’ll skillfully avoid that suggestion.

Now that you have completed the story, you can start the mandatory and optional chapter tasks. You need to complete one mandatory chapter task and two optional chapter tasks to unlock the next chapter. When you complete three tasks, the fourth one that is left will disappear.

Go to the ROCC Division to start the mandatory chapter task. You’ll encounter Vega, who expressed a desire to join you in exploring the town and assessing your abilities to connect with people firsthand.

You’ll need to complete several objectives to finish this mandatory chapter task. Feel free to do them in any order you prefer.

While doing these objectives, it is recommended to select the duration that matches their star requirements.

Prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

Once you complete all of the tasks, hit the Collect button and return to the ROCC Division.

After you complete all the objectives, you can claim the reward in the Wizarding World section of the Wizarding Life tab.

Choose the optional tasks you like. You can Advanced Potions at the Research Lab where you can earn Spinx Club Experience Point and Healer Experience Potins. Magical Maintenance Cover at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement where you can earn Dragon Club Experience Points, and Obscure Foraging at the Forest Grove where you can earn Dragon Club Experience Points.

Also, prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

This will conclude Chapter 23 of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume 1. You will receive 400 Coins and 2000 Experience Points.

Finally, we’ve resolved the case of the cursed quill. Love for someone can sometimes be so strong that we’re willing to do anything for that person, even if it’s wrong, as in Ruby’s case. We hope she heals her emotional wounds and learns the important lesson, much like Jacob learned that happiness doesn’t always hinge on achieving one’s goals and that it’s crucial to appreciate the people who stand by you, making them a priority.
