Chapter 28 – The Last Laughs
Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Twenty-Eight of Year Seven of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. During the previous chapter, you took the cursed CD to Professor Flitwick. He agreed to help you break the curse, but he needed some time to properly prepare. In the meantime, you went to finally confront Merula about her joining ‘R’.
You found her at the Whomping Willow, but she wasn’t in the mood to talk. You were forced to duel her, and after defeating her in a wandless duel, you learned that she is finally done with ‘R’. You asked her to work as a double agent, and after considering it for a while, she agreed. You also had the opportunity to forgive her for everything she’s done. Later on, you went back to the Charms classroom. Professor Flitwick tried using Expulso to destroy the cursed CD, but unfortunately, he ended up getting cursed. You realize that the CD is likely protected against magic, so you decide to see if Professor Sikander can help you destroy it via Muggle means.

Before that, you should take care of the lessons and assignments. Proceed to the Astronomy Tower when you are ready. To unlock the Dark Matter and Dark Energy lesson, you need to earn a total of nine stars from the Astronomy classes. Select the class duration you prefer, and hit Start to begin.
As always, prioritize the bonus progress actions to save as much energy as possible.
Try to successfully complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional Knowledge points.
Return to the Astronomy Tower once you earn enough stars to unlock the lesson. To complete the Dark Matter and Dark Energy lesson, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.
During the lesson, Professor Sinistra will ask you a question about its topic.
You will earn a reward for completing the lesson. You can collect it in the Astronomy section of your Hogwarts record.
Head to the reception area of St. Mungo’s once you are ready to start the assignment. Madam Strout will thank you for coming. She’ll explain why she needs your help.
Apparently, there was an incident involving two Quidditch teams, and you’ll ask Madam Strout to tell you what happened, and she will share everything she knows.
She’ll ask you to help with the patients and mention that Mad-Eye Moody is investigating the incident, to which you’ll gladly agree to assist. You will need to finish several tasks to complete the assignment. As always, you can feel free to do them in any order you prefer.
While doing these tasks, be sure to select the duration that matches the star requirements.
Prioritize bonus progress actions if you are looking to save some energy.
Each mini-task you complete will earn you some attribute points, so try your best to successfully complete all of them.
Hit the Collect button to return to the reception area of St. Mungo’s once you finish all of the tasks.
Madam Strout will congratulate you on a job well done. She’ll tell you that all of the injured players successfully recovered.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about their rivalry, and Madam Strout will also tell you how the whole incident started.
You will earn a reward for completing the assignment.
Now that you’re done with the lessons and assignments, you can continue the story. Proceed to Muggle Studies when you are ready. Professor Sikander will happily greet you, and he’ll immediately notice that Professor Flitwick is laughing uncontrollably, so he’ll ask you about it.
You’ll quickly explain what happened.
Corey will suggest that the cursed CD needs to be destroyed through non-magical means, surprising Professor Sikander with your need for his help. He’ll then explain that destroying CDs is a relatively simple process and ask you to hand him the disc.
You’ll mention that touching the CD would result in getting cursed, so scratching is not an option. In other words, you’ll need to find another way to destroy the disk. Professor Sikander will suggest looking around for a Muggle artifact that could be used for this purpose. Searching the classroom requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.
Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus progress actions tied to Professor Sikander, your character, and a rubber duck. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.
Eventually, you will find some artefacts that could potentially be used to destroy the cursed CD. Professor Sikander will ask if you know which one would be most suitable for destroying the cursed CD. There are three options to choose from. The correct answer is Microwave.
According to Professor Sikander, the microwave should easily destroy the disc.
You will carefully place the CD inside the microwave.
Corey will ask the Professor an interesting question.
He will explain that the microwave has been enchanted, allowing it to function on Hogwarts grounds. Shortly after, Professor Sikander will prepare to turn on the microwave. As soon as he does, the microwave will start sparkling and jumping around, and moments later, the CD will be completely ruined.
You will quickly turn to Professor Flitwick and ask if he is all right. He’ll let out a sigh of relief. Thankfully, the plan worked as intended.
Professor Sikander will be glad that he was able to help break the curse, and you’ll thank him for that. He’ll decide to take Professor Flitwick to Madam Pomfrey, and shortly after, they leave the classroom. You’ll wonder if Jacob and the others are also free of the curse, but Corey will remind you of the urgent matter you need to take care of first.
You’ll nod and say that you are ready to discuss the plan with Merula, but Corey will still be unsure if Merula is going to be cooperative. You’ll suggest meeting with her and coming up with a plan.
Proceed to the Artefact Room when you are ready. As soon as you arrive, Merula will ask if anyone saw you coming.
You’ll be pretty sure that no one followed you, and she’ll be glad to hear that. She will say that she doesn’t want anyone in ‘R’ finding out that she is a double agent, and you will notice the worried look on her face as she says that. Meanwhile, Corey will still seem very suspicious of Merula.
The Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts will grin and say that she’ll have to rely on her. The choice that you made while talking to Merula after confronting her will take effect here.
If you chose to forgive Merula, she will express her gratitude. She’ll also make it clear she wants to protect her friends. If you decided not to forgive her, she will wonder if choosing to work as a double agent was a good idea.
In any case, Corey will still be suspicious of her.
You’ll then get to reassure her that trusting Merula is the right thing to do. There are three options to choose from. This choice won’t significantly impact the story, so feel free to take your pick.
In the end, Corey will agree to put her faith in Merula, and you will then get to talk about the plan. Discussing the plan requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.
There are bonus progress actions tied to your character, Corey, and Merula. Focus on those if you want to save as much energy as possible.
Merula will say that she’ll try her best to send you information about ‘R’ at every opportunity, but she’ll need to figure out how to do it without ‘R’ finding out. You’ll suggest using Corey to pass the information.
Corey will like your idea.
With the plan sorted out, you will decide to return to St. Mungo and see if the laughing curse is truly broken.
You will need to wait three hours before you can continue. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.
Proceed to the Hospital Ward once the waiting time is over. Jacob will smile and happily greet you when you arrive.
You’ll be glad to see that he’s all right.
You will ask if everyone else is also okay, and Madam Strout will tell you that all those affected by the curse are recovering nicely. Jacob will inquire if he will be able to testify at the Wizengamot trial, and she’ll say that he should recover before the trial starts. Your brother will be glad to hear that.
He’ll ask if you were nervous about the thought of testifying alone. There are three options to reply with. If you like Jacob, it is recommended to pick the third option.
Talbott will be glad that everything worked out in the end. He’ll also mention the Swan Patronus.
Madam Strout will say that she was the one who conjured the Patronus, and you’ll be slightly surprised to hear that. She’ll explain that Talbott’s mother was a good friend of hers, and after she was gone, Madam Strout’s Patronus changed to resemble her Animagus form.
She occasionally conjures it in memory of Talbott’s mother.
Jacob will say that he had a good feeling about the swan Patronus, and Madam Strout will tell Talbott that he is a lot like his mother.
You will agree with her, and Talbott will be slightly surprised to hear that. There are three options to reply with. Each of these will lead to a similar outcome, so feel free to pick whichever one you prefer.
Madam Strout will tell Talbott that his mother would be so proud to see him following in her footsteps, and Jacob will say that family and friends are some of life’s greatest gifts. You will then get to cherish the memories of those dear to you. This requires earning five stars within three hours. Since all five stars are needed to pass, avoid starting this task if your energy bar is empty.
There is a bonus progress action tied to your character. Prioritize it if you want to save a bit of energy.
Before she gets back to her duties, Madam Strout will give Talbott his mother’s healer insignia.
Talbott will thank her and say that he might earn his own healer insignia one day.
You’ll ask if he changed his mind about becoming an Auror, and he’ll nod, saying that he wants to become a Healer, just like his mother. Madam Strout will add that you’ve also become a Healer, albeit not a traditional one.
You’ll thank her for her kind words, and shortly after, Madam Strout will get back to work. While you’re glad that the curse is finally lifted, you’ve yet to find the one responsible for it. You will decide to talk to Mad-Eye and tell him about what happened.
Proceed to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement when you are ready to continue. Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say. Mad-Eye will be glad to see you. Apparently, he already knows that the laughing curse is broken. He’ll assume you were the one who did that.
You will admit that it wasn’t easy; thankfully, you had help, so you were able to break the curse. Moody will ask you about the source of the curse, and you’ll tell him about the cursed CD. He will then ask you to tell him everything. Reporting to Moody requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.
Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There is a bonus progress action tied to your character, so prioritize it if you want to save a bit of energy.
Mad-Eye will say a few words once you tell him about what happened.
He will praise you and say that you exceeded his expectations by far. You’ll thank him and humbly say that you just wanted to help everyone. Also, having Merula as a double agent could help you defeat ‘R’. Moody will say it is generous of you to give her another chance. The choice that you made while talking to Merula after confronting her will take effect here.
Mad-Eye will ask if you trust Merula to be a reliable source of information. There are three options to reply with. If you like Merula, it is recommended to pick the first option.
Mad-Eye will say that you need to find the person who sent Jacob the cursed object, and you will wonder if it was the Metamorphmagus who infiltrated the Ministry.
Mad-Eye will decide to check with some of his contacts and see if they know anything. He’ll also suggest you talk to your new informant.
Hopefully, Merula will be able to help you solve the mystery.
Before you leave, Moody will advise you to be careful. You will need to wait four hours before Corey is ready to meet with you. Since you will probably be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.
Proceed to the courtyard once the waiting time is over. Corey will be excited about your first secret meeting.
It will remind her of a detective novel she once read.
You will advise her to be extra careful, and then tell her to ask Merula about the person responsible for cursing Jacob and the others. Corey will look forward to helping you solve the case and will ask if you are interested in any specific info on the person responsible for the curse.
There are three options to choose from. This choice won’t significantly impact the story, so feel free to go with the option you prefer.
Corey will promise to pass your message to Merula as soon as possible, and she’ll ask what you are planning to do next. You’ll tell her you are planning to find out if Zenith Xeep knows anything about the person who cursed Jacob and the others.
You’ll tell her you are planning to use Legilimency to find out if Madam Xeep knows anything.
Corey will be shocked to hear that you are a Legilimens.
She’ll ask you to tell her everything about your experiences with Legilimency. Discussing Legilimency requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.
There is a bonus progress action tied to your character. Focus on that one if you want to save some energy.
Corey will be in awe after hearing about your experiences with Legilimency.
She’ll be glad that you learned to use it, and hopefully, it will help you find the answers you’re looking for. Moments later, Beatrice and Victor will approach you, apparently taking in the moonlight and contemplating the darkness.
Victor will ask if you’ve also come out to the courtyard to take in the moonlight. There are three options to reply with. This choice won’t impact the story in any meaningful way, so feel free to go with the option you prefer.
Beatrice will thank you for breaking the laughing curse and curing her sister.
She will look forward to returning the favor to you one day, and Victor will offer to help you if you ever need it. You will thank them both before leaving the courtyard.
