Chapter 38 – Tensions Rise

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Thirty-Eight of Year Seven of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. During the previous chapter, you went back to Azkaban with Mad-Eye Moody. You learned that the Ministry decided to have you assist Moody with interrogating another prisoner.

However, before you could learn more, Azkaban went into lockdown, and you got separated from Mad-Eye. You went to the interrogation room, where you met none other than Patricia Rakepick. Having no other options, you had to cooperate with her to escape the place. You also learned that the Director is not the leader of ‘R’. On top of that, she told you that ‘R’, in fact, is not only the name of the dark organization but their leader as well.

While trying to escape, you were surrounded by several Dementors. Rakepick took your wand and used it to cast the powerful Patronus Charm to repel the creatures. Unfortunately, she wasn’t willing to return your wand to you, so you had to use wandless magic to disarm her. Luckily, your plan worked out, and you were able to get back to Moody. Not long after that, you went back to Hogwarts and told everything to your friends.

Now, you can start things off by completing the lessons. Head to the Herbology classroom when you are ready. To unlock the Soppophorous Bean lesson, you’ll need to obtain a total of nine stars from Herbology classes. Select the class duration suitable to your liking and hit Start to begin.

Prioritize doing bonus progress actions whenever they are available. That should save you some energy.

Each mini-task you successfully complete will grant you some Empathy points.

Head back to the classroom once you obtain enough stars to unlock the lesson.To complete the Soppophorous lesson, you’ll need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting this lesson if you are out of energy.

Do this lesson just like the classes you took beforehand, and you’ll be done quickly and easily.

When you are done, hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. Completing the lesson will earn you an additional reward. You can claim it in the Herbology section of your Hogwarts Record.

Head to the Astronomy Tower once you’re ready for the second lesson of the chapter. To unlock the Black Holes and Wormholes lesson, you’ll need to earn nine stars from the Astronomy classes. Choose the class duration that suits you and hit Start when you are ready to begin.

As always, focus on the bonus progress actions to save energy.

Try your best to successfully complete the mini-tasks to earn some additional Knowledge points.

Head back to the Astronomy Tower once you earn enough stars to unlock the lesson. To complete the Black Holes and Wormholes lesson, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

During the lesson, Professor Sinistra will ask you a question about Wormholes.

Once you earn a fifth star, you’ll be tasked with drawing a star chart. Trace the path on the screen to do so.

When you are done, hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You’ll earn an additional reward for completing the lesson. You can claim it in the Astronomy section of your Hogwarts Record.

Now that you’re done with lessons, you can continue the story. Proceed to the courtyard when you are ready to meet with Merula and Corey. By the looks of it, Corey was eagerly awaiting your arrival.

As for Merula, she’ll wonder why Corey is in the courtyard.

You’ll calmly tell her that the three of you need to discuss ‘R’. The Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts won’t seem happy to involve Corey in the whole situation with ‘R’. Upon hearing that, Corey will start to regret coming up with the idea to ask Merula to be a double agent. You’ll try to defuse the situation and tell them both to stop fighting. After all, there are far more important matters to be discussed.

You will then tell them you want to talk about what you learned from Shiratori while you were at Azkaban. Discussing the situation is an hour-long task with a passing requirement of three out of five stars.

There are bonus progress actions tied to Corey and Merula. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

Merula will be surprised once she learns about your encounter with Rakepick. The following lines will differ based on the choice you’ve made in the final vault.

Despite Corey’s concerns about ‘R’ wanting you to join them, you will clarify that the Director isn’t the ultimate leader, and there will be someone more powerful pulling the strings. Merula’s mention of Rakepick’s fear of the Director will add another layer of concern. However, the discussion will be interrupted as Merula and Corey will resume their argument.

Shortly after, the Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts will leave the courtyard. Corey will look pretty devastated after that fight. To make matters worse, you didn’t say anything to defend your friend.

Corey will ask if you agree with Merula. There are three options to reply with. If you agree with Merula, you should pick the first one. If you want to take Corey’s side, it is recommended to go with the second option. If you want to stay neutral, you should pick the third option.

You’ll express the importance of being on the same page and working together to stop ‘R’. Corey will express his suspicion that Merula might be hiding something from you, but he won’t have any evidence to support the theory. You’ll assure Corey that you’ll discuss it later, as you need to attend class.

Head to the Divination classroom when you are ready to continue. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of your classmates. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say. Badeea will tell Liz that she knew you would be on time.

Apparently, your Slytherin friend was consulting tea leaves to find out if you’ll be late for class.

Despite the surprise, Chiara will explain that they’ve been preparing for the upcoming N.E.W.T.s. Talbott will admit that he doesn’t care much about Divination. It will be hard for you to believe that your Hogwarts studies will soon come to an end.

Shortly after, Professor Trelawney will welcome everyone to her class. Apparently, she is planning to start preparing you for the N.E.W.T.s and it is essential to do well on those exams.

She’ll ask if anyone has any questions about the Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test. There are three options to choose from. This choice won’t significantly impact the story, so feel free to go with the option you prefer.

By the looks of it, you’ll be practicing Ovomancy. Talbott will express concern about the upcoming N.E.W.T.s and his lack of interest in Divination, you’ll kindly offer to help him out. Practicing Ovomancy requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus progress actions tied to Barnaby and Talbott. Prioritize those if you are looking to save energy.

When you are done practicing, you’ll suggest divining if Talbott should be an Auror or a Healer. While he won’t be too excited about it, Talbott will agree to your suggestion. You’ll then break an egg and take a good look at the yolk.

Talbott will be curious to hear the results of your divination. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to tell anything.

Since that divination wasn’t very helpful, Talbott will ask you to advise him on his future career choice. There are three options to choose from. If you think that he should be an Auror, you should pick the first option. If you want to advise him to become a Healer, go with the second option. Lastly, if you think Talbott should be a poet, you should select the third choice.

You’ll remind Talbott that, ultimately, he should be the one to decide which career to pursue. He’ll smile and thank you for the advice. Following that, Professor Trelawney will ask for everyone’s attention. Apparently, she’s been observing you and your classmates. As a result, she can foretell the future of everyone’s N.E.W.T.s. She’ll take a look at Chiara and Liz and say that, for some of your classmates, the answer is quite clear.

Unfortunately, she won’t be certain about the others. She’ll say that while looking your way.

She will then wish everyone the best of luck with their N.E.W.T.s. Shortly after, you’ll decide to find Corey and Merula and talk to them.

You’ll need to wait three hours before you can continue. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Proceed to the lakeshore once the waiting time is over. As soon as she sees you, Merula will ask if you are alone.

She will ask if you are absolutely sure no one followed you. You’ll confirm your solitude and question why she’s acting strangely. She’ll mention being cautious, and you’ll reassure her while offering to prove you’re alone.

To reassure Merula, you will need to earn five stars within three hours. Since all five stars are needed to pass, it is not recommended to start this task with an empty energy bar.

There are bonus progress actions tied to your character and Merula. Focus on those if you want to save energy.

After looking around for a while, Merula will agree that there is no one spying on the two of you. You’ll ask her to tell you why she wanted to meet you. Apparently, she is worried that ‘R’ might get their hands on the next ingredient on the Dark Scroll.

She’ll ask you to summon Jacob in order to decipher what the next ingredient is. There are two options to respond to. If you like Merula, it is somewhat recommended to pick the first option. Otherwise, feel free to pick either option.

In any case, you’ll be surprised that she still wants to continue with the plan, especially after what she said in the courtyard. Merula will tell you she only said that because she was sick of Corey. She’ll wonder if you trust her.

You will be slightly confused to hear that. According to Merula, Corey only wants to manipulate you. You’ll try to convince her that they shouldn’t be fighting each other, but Merula will tell you she only wants to decipher the next riddle on the Dark Scroll.

You’ll say that you can do that without summoning Jacob. Suddenly, Corey will arrive, clearly unhappy that you want to share the next ingredient with Merula.

You’ll be completely lost for words.

Merula will say that none of you should have any secrets if you are to work together. Corey will be quite sure that Merula is still an agent of ‘R’. Unfortunately, without solid proof, it won’t be possible to tell if that theory is true or not. Moments later, Corey will leave the place, and Merula will comment on the whole situation.

Once again, she’ll remind you how important it is to figure out what the next ingredient is. She will tell you to meet her in the Artefact Room.

Go there when you are ready to continue. Merula will be glad to see you, and she’ll say she made sure that no one would interrupt you this time.

You will notice she is really keen on deciphering the riddle. Calmly, she will say she doesn’t want ‘R’ to be ahead of you. Recalling you saying that you don’t need Jacob to decipher the next ingredient, she will ask you about it. You’ll tell her that you know what the next riddle is and then recite the words of the riddle.

Shortly after, the two of you will start working on deciphering the riddle. To do that, you’ll need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting this task if you are low on energy.

There is a bonus progress action tied to Merula. Focus on it if you want to save a bit of energy.

Merula will be quite sure that ‘one of eight’ is referring to spiders. However, it won’t make any sense to her since spiders aren’t exactly rare. After giving it some thought, you’ll realize that the riddle is referring to Acromantulas.

It definitely makes sense since gathering venom from Acromantulas’ fangs is incredibly difficult. Merula will suggest heading into the forest immediately. There are two options to reply with. Both options will end up with the same outcome, so feel free to pick the one you prefer.

The Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts will remind you that time is of the essence.

Shortly after, the two of you will leave the Artefact Room and head towards the forest. You’ll need to wait four hours before you can continue. Since you will most likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Proceed to Forest Grove once the waiting time is over. You will stop for a moment when you get close to the Spider’s Lair.

Merula will ask why you stopped. You’ll tell her that heading into the Spider’s Lair without a plan isn’t a wise thing to do. You will suggest going over everything you know about Acromantulas, and Merula will agree with you. To discuss Acromantulas, you’ll need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

There are bonus progress actions tied to your character and Merula. Prioritize those if you are looking to save some energy.

When you are done, the two of you will go over the plan one more time.

If something goes wrong, you can cast Arania Exumai to repel the Acromantulas. You’ll tell Merula that Rakepick was the one who taught you that spell. By the looks of it, she still has strong feelings about everything that happened.

Once again, she will tell you that Corey is trying to manipulate you.

Suddenly, Corey will appear and tell you that Merula is a liar. There are two options to reply with. While both options will lead to the same outcome, if you like Merula, it is somewhat recommended to pick the first option.

In any case, you’ll learn that Corey has proof that Merula is a liar. Apparently, there is a reason why Merula is so tight-lipped about the Director.

Unfortunately, before you get to hear more, Merula will cast the Langlock jinx to prevent Corey from saying anything.

You’ll immediately ask her to explain herself. Instead of answering your question, Merula will cast the Langlock jinx on you.

She’ll say that she tried to warn both you and Corey. Unfortunately, she was forced to act. Advising you to listen to what Shiratori told you if you want to see Corey again, by the looks of it, ‘R’ is done waiting. Moments later, Merula will grab Corey and apparate away.

This will conclude Chapter 38 of Year 7. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 350 Coins and 2000 Experience Points.
