Chapter 55 – The Broken Path
Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Fifty-Five of Year Seven of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. In the previous chapter, you, Verucca, and Jacob set a trap for Peregrine to steal the cursed amulet, while secretly you and Jacob planned with Aurors to catch both Verucca and your father.
The plan to steal the amulet failed, and Verucca attacked, which resulted in Jacob getting hurt. Unfortunately, Aurors arrived too late, and both Verucca and Peregrine apparated away. Later, you visit your brother in the hospital and talk with him. Jacob realized something terrible: he got blinded by Verucca’s spell.

Once you complete all the assignments, you can continue with the main story. When you are ready, go to Dumbledore’s Office to tell him about Jacob’s blindness. Once you are there, Professor Dumbledore will be worried, and he’ll be impatient to hear news about Jacob.
You will explain that your brother is blind and that it was all your fault. Professor Dumbledore will not think so, and he will try to reassure you.
You will mention that you were too late to save Jacob from harm. You’ll explain that Verucca used a variant of the Conjunctivitis Curse that the Healers have never encountered before, and the Oculus Potion can’t cure him.
Professor Dumbledore will comment that even magic has its limits. You can reply to him in two different ways. This choice won’t have a significant impact on the story, so feel free to choose an option you like.
The professor will remind you that you need to be strong for your brother, and you can’t do that if you carry guilt. Shortly after, he will switch to another uncomfortable topic, which is about your father. Mad-Eye already told him everything, but he wants to hear your version of the events.

He will mention that your friend is better and has been released from the hospital. This dialogue may differ depending on which friend came with you to Peregrine’s experiment.
Luckily, Professor Dumbledore won’t expel you for your actions. He’ll even comment that he would do something similar in your shoes. He’ll remind you that he didn’t expel Merula before. This will give you an idea of how to talk with Merula. She might know what happened to Verucca after the ambush.
Go to the Library when you are ready to continue. If you are curious about what students in the Library have to say, tap on the speech bubbles above their heads. Slide the screen left and right, to check all the available dialogue options. You will wonder what Merula is doing in the library.

She’ll remind you of the things she said before, that there will be consequences if you fail. And you know only half of those consequences. She will decide to tell you everything now, but you’ll have to pay close attention.

She’ll explain that now that Ministry has come so close to catching your dad, they won’t stop until they’ve finished the job, but Verucca will try to get rid of your dad before they catch him. Merula’s aunt decided that was the only way to save ‘R’.
Merula will be the key to stopping Verucca, but she has an Unbreakable Vow to her true family. You can reply to her in two different ways. This choice will have some minor influence on the following dialogue, but if you like Merula, it’s recommended to pick the second option.
The following line of dialogue will differ, based on this choice.
She’ll decide to continue reading the book, and she’ll tell you to leave. You will go to Jacob to share the new information you have.
Before visiting Jacob, you need to wait three hours.
Once the Waiting Time is over, go to the Patient Room. You will ask your brother how he is and he’ll mention that he feels like a science experiment because healers are constantly hovering over him at all hours.
He’ll add that it feels humiliating. You will ask him if there is any progress on Verucca’s Conjunctivitis curse. Unfortunately, Jacob will mention that there’s been no progress, and healers have tried everything they know. He’ll have the impression that, at this rate, healers will never find an answer.
You try to reassure your brother. This choice won’t have a significant impact on the story, but Jacob will like the second option the most.
Jacob will be in a very bad mood and although he appreciates your visit, he’ll think it’s not a good time for a chat.

Go to the Clocktower Courtyard when you are ready to meet your friend. You can check what your fellow schoolmates have to say by tapping on the speech bubbles. Your friend will tell you that this is not only your fight and will remind you that the Circle of Khana was formed to avenge Rowan. Furthermore, you did so much for your friends, and it’s their time to help you back.
You will accept the help, but you’ll point out that everybody must be careful. If the entire Circle of Khana confronts your Dad, the conflict could lead to an all-out war. You’ll decide to lure Peregrine to meet you alone. You will do so by telling him you want to join ‘R’. This will make him go out of his hiding place.
Before you can meet your father, you have to wait four hours.
Once the waiting time is over, go to Hog’s Head Inn. Once you are there, you will sit with your father in complete privacy.
He’ll tell you he’s been in hiding after Verucca’s betrayal and the Aurors’ arrival, and that he almost risked going to St. Mungo’s to visit Jacob. He’ll ask you about your brother.
You’ll mention that Jacob is blind and can’t be healed from Verucca’s curse. Peregrine’s reaction will first look like he’s about to blame himself, but something will take over him, and he will feel rage towards Verucca.
He will also blame you for not joining ‘R’ earlier. According to him, if you did, you would’ve prevented this.
Peregrine will suddenly take a deep breath, and he’ll return to being kind toward you.
He will then ask you if you are finally ready to join ‘R’. This choice will have some impact on the dialogues later, but it won’t change the outcome of the story. Pick the option you think is wise. Your father will like the first option.

Peregrine will become angry again. He will accuse you of wanting to turn him into something he is not and that you are stealing his power. He’ll ask you why you want his amulet so much. He will calm down again after a deep breath, and he’ll mention that you are quite naive, but he still wishes you the best. He’ll mention that it was good to see you last time.
You will ask him what he means. Peregrine will explain that the ‘R’ is regrouping and they have big plans. He won’t tell you about the plans, but he’ll promise you that you will see them soon enough. Shortly after, he’ll apparate away.
