Chapter 9 – Jacob Being Jacob
Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Nine of Beyond Hogwarts: Volume Two of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. In the previous chapter, you embarked on a daring mission to Azkaban with Jacob and Mad-Eye to interrogate Verruca, hoping for answers about her escape and connection to Jacob’s curse. Yet, she skillfully toyed with your minds, revealing only that she’d escaped with the help of someone close to you. This unsettling encounter raised new questions: Is “R” active again, or could your father or Olivia be involved?
Back at the Ministry, Olivia’s curiosity interrupted your reflections, leaving you wondering about her intentions. Shortly after, you found yourself by the enchanted New York fountain, once again encountering Ben. His wish, which amusingly backfired, confirmed your suspicions about the fountain’s curse. Seeking guidance, you consulted Vega, who advised caution before resorting to magic and later spoke with Ruby, who hinted at a new friend—none other than Merula Snyde.
With mysteries deepening, get ready for an unforgettable journey in Chapter 9. Stay tuned with Hogwarts Cafe, and Happy Halloween! 🎃

Proceed to the Workspace when you are ready to update Flump. When you arrive, you’ll see that Flump is already there. After a brief exchange, he will remind you to give him a report on your Cursed Places case.

To update Flump, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The bonus progress actions are tied to your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.

As you discuss the cursed New York fountain, you’ll notice that Flump seems quite familiar with your case.

He will further explain that he had a similar case a few years ago. When you ask why you’re facing the same issue if he already dealt with it, he will clarify that he didn’t break the curse. Instead, he cast a spell that transformed the wizarding coins into ordinary coins.

Flump will explain that leaving wizarding coins out for Muggles to see and pick up doesn’t protect the secrecy of your world. You’ll realize that he chose to address the fountain by ignoring the problem. He will agree with you, adding that it was doing more good than harm, and emphasizing that wizards shouldn’t try to solve their problems with wishes.

Flump will add that most people are too embarrassed to speak up when their wish backfires. Following that, he will remark that the witches and wizards who use the fountain are simply reaping what they sow. There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

Then you will suggest that leaving the curse as-is, without breaking it, might be a valid way to handle the situation, adding that Vega probably thought the same. However, Flump will remind you that the decision regarding the curse is ultimately yours to make.

He will say that he doesn’t know who Merula is and will ask if she might suspect anything about Ruby. You will respond that you don’t know, and you will decide to go straight to Merula to have a conversation with her.

You’ll need to wait three hours before you can continue. Since this chapter is not time-limited, it is recommended to wait until this timer runs out.

Head to Barnaby’s Parlour once the waiting time is over. When you arrive, you’ll see Merula arguing with Barnaby’s grandmother, specifically her portrait. You’ll ask her what’s going on.

She’ll ask you for a moment because she hasn’t finished her argument yet. There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

In any case, she will soon interrupt and ask what you want to discuss with her, at which point Barnaby will appear.

Following that, he will express his desire to discuss his plan for dealing with his grandmother with you. To learn Barnaby’s plan, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Merula and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy.

You’ll realize that Barnaby has called Merula specifically to argue with his grandmother’s portrait, hoping the back-and-forth will tire her out and finally let him live his life without interference.
He’ll then turn to you for your thoughts on this plan. There are three different options to choose from. All of them will eventually lead to the same outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

Merula will decide to stay and continue her argument with Barnaby’s grandmother, meaning she’ll be living with them for a while. She’ll mention that Barnaby’s house is closer to her new job than her own home, which reminds you to ask her why she isn’t at work.

Merula will be surprised that Ruby didn’t inform her, giving you a chance to subtly check how close she really is with Ruby.

This will strike you as odd, and Barnaby will mention that your brother visited earlier in the morning, asking questions about the day his curse was lifted. Merula, clearly frustrated, will add that you should tell your brother she has nothing to do with Verucca and wants nothing more to do with her.

Proceed to the Fitzy Flourpuff’s Enchanted Cakery when you are ready. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. You’ll thank Jae for setting up the meeting and also greet Ismelda upon noticing her presence. Jae will mention that your owl message sounded urgent, prompting him to ask what it’s all about.

He’ll confirm that he and Ismelda saw Jacob there just before the afternoon rush started. Jacob was asking questions about the day Verruca lifted his curse. Ismelda will add that Jacob seemed to be acting strangely.

Jae will add that Jacob might find it difficult to talk to Ben unless he’s already done so, but you reassure him that he hasn’t, as Ben would have mentioned it to you. This line will differ depending on which house you belong to.

Jae will say it’s fine and ask if, in return, you could tell him everything about Ben Copper. To talk about Ben, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to Bilton and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions.

You’ll comment that Ben is doing really well at his job and that he’s somewhat of a celebrity at MACUSA. This line will differ based on your previous choice.

Shortly after, Ismelda will ask if you’re interested in that new version of Ben. There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

You’ll ask her why she’s curious and if she might be interested in Ben. However, she’ll politely thank you and mention that she has a partner, which will immediately spark your curiosity. Nevertheless, you’ll decide to head over to Jacob to have a conversation with him.

You’ll need to wait four hours before you can continue. Since this chapter is not time-limited, it is recommended to wait until this timer runs out.
Head to Hogsmeade once the waiting time is over. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you’re curious to see what they have to say. Fortunately, you’ll find Jacob in Hogsmeade and inform him that he better have a good reason for questioning your friends about the day Verruca broke his curse.

This line will differ based on your previous choice.

He’ll say he simply can’t stop thinking about it and adds that he’s concluded it wasn’t any of your friends who helped Verruca. Jacob theorizes that your dad might have done it, suggesting that he’s probably alive and sent you the amulet and that he helped Verruca so she could, in turn, help him.
There are two different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

You’ll try to calm Jacob down, deciding to reassure him about some things. To reassure Jacob, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to the Enthusiastic wizard and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions.

You’ll inform him that none of your friends will help Verruca after everything she does, noting that even Merula said she never wants to see or speak to her again. Regarding his theory about your father, you’ll advise him not to jump to conclusions too quickly. You’ll also remind him that you haven’t forgotten about the amulet; instead, you gave it to Elton to learn more about it.

He’ll ask why you didn’t tell him that you gave the amulet to Elton. There are three different options to choose from. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they won’t impact the story.

He’ll ask if that’s the same Elton Olivia was talking about, and you’ll confirm it, mentioning that he’s an expert in Dai Ryusaki and that you met him back at Hogwarts. At that moment, Skye will appear and ask if you’re going to watch Harry Potter’s Quidditch match against Slytherin.

Now that you have completed the story, you can start the mandatory and optional chapter tasks. You need to complete one mandatory chapter task and two optional chapter tasks to unlock the next chapter. When you complete three tasks, the fourth one that is left will disappear.
Go to your ROCC Divison to start the mandatory chapter task. You will meet up with Flump, he needs help finding a new hidden place where no one can find him; your task is to try to locate him.

You’ll need to complete several objectives to finish this mandatory chapter task. Feel free to do them in any order you prefer.

While doing these objectives, it is recommended to select the duration that matches their star requirements.

Prioritize actions with bonus progress whenever they are available.

Try your best to complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some additional attribute points.

Once you complete all of the tasks, hit the Collect button and return to the ROCC Divison.

After you complete all the objectives, you can claim the reward in the Wizarding World section of the Wizarding Life tab.

Choose the optional tasks you like. You can visit Hogsmeade where you can earn Dragon Experience Points, Sample Sweets at Honeydukes where you can earn Hippogriff Experience Points, and Magical Creature Bonding where you can earn Dragon Experience Points and Magizoologist Experience Points.
