Chapter 16 – The forest vault

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Sixteen of Year Four of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. In the previous chapter, you went to see if Hagrid could help you with the cursed vault adventure. You found out that his hut has been infested with Bundimun and he asked you to help him get rid of it.

You then went to meet your friends in the courtyard, but shortly after you arrived, the Mysterious Dark Wizard attacked you. He used Petrificus Totalus on your friends and you had no other option but to fight him. Who knows what kind of fate you would’ve met had it not been for the timely arrival of Madam Rakepick. She quickly knocked over your attacker with the Blasting Curse and saved you and your friends. As it turned out, the Mysterious Dark Wizard was none other than Ben Copper, who apparently had no recollection of attacking you whatsoever. Afterward, you went to Hagrid and helped him with the Bundimun infestation.

There will be a waiting period of eight hours before you can proceed to the next story task, so you can simply do the lessons part of the chapter first. Hit the GO button and proceed to the Charms classroom when you are ready for your final Charms lesson of the year.

To unlock the Colloportus lesson, you need to earn a total of nine stars from the Charms classes. Choose a combination of classes that fits your playstyle best and hit the Start button to begin.

As always, tap on the various glowing objects to complete actions. Each one you do will fill a certain amount of the star meter, based on the energy cost. Bonus progress actions will grant you the largest benefit per energy point spent, so you should always prioritize those. After earning each star, you’ll be given a mini-task. Do it successfully to earn some additional Empathy points.

Once you unlock the lesson, head back to the classroom to attend it. Learning the Colloportus Charm is a three-hour task with a five-star passing requirement. Because of this, you might want to have full energy before starting the lesson.

Do this one in a similar way to the classes you took earlier. During the lesson, Professor Flitwick will ask you a question about Colloportus Charm.

When you earn the fifth star, you’ll be tasked with casting the spell. Trace the wand movement on the screen to do that.

Congratulations! You’ve completed the final Charms lesson of the year. Hit the Collect button to continue. You can claim an additional reward in the Charms section of your Hogwarts Record. All that’s left is the Potions lesson. Proceed to the classroom when you’re ready.

Unlocking the Skele-gro lesson requires you to earn nine stars from the Potions classes. Pick the class combination suitable to your liking and hit the Start button to begin.

Do these classes just like all the others you had before. Pay attention to the available actions and try prioritizing the ones with bonus progress and by all means, focus on completing all of the mini-tasks successfully to gain some extra Knowledge points.

As soon as you earn enough stars, the lesson will be unlocked, so head back to the classroom to attend it. To learn how to brew the Skele-gro, you need to obtain five stars within three hours. Since all of the stars are required to pass, you definitely want to avoid starting this lesson if you are out of energy.

There isn’t much of a difference between this lesson and the classes you took earlier. Simply do it in a similar manner and you shouldn’t encounter any problems.

When you are done, hit the Collect button to claim your rewards and continue. You’ll also get an additional reward you can claim in the Potions section of your Hogwarts Record. Now is the time to resume the story. Head to the Artefact room to meet Charlie.

Charlie will ask you who to bring along on the curse-breaking adventure. You have three options to choose from. Both Penny and Bill require a specific friendship level, while Rowan can be selected regardless of it.

Some parts of the story will be slightly different depending on the person you take, but the overall outcome won’t be affected, so feel free to pick a friend you prefer. It is also worth noting you will earn a lot of friendship experience with the friend you select, so take that into consideration as well.

Your next task involves talking to the friend you selected. Hit the GO button and proceed to the Great Hall when you’re ready. Once you arrive, you’ll be able to interact with some of the characters by tapping on the speech bubbles above them.

You’ll talk to your friend for a bit, but apparently, you’ll have to do some convincing in order for them to join you. Tapping on the handshake icon will bring up the task window. It’ll display the recommended attribute levels as well as the cost of the task.

This task is fairly similar to the Meal With a Friend mini-game. Try to pick the answers that fit your friend’s personality and you shouldn’t have any problem completing it.

When you are done, you’ll receive a significant amount of friendship experience. This will further be increased by your Charisma level.

For the next task, proceed to the Forest Grove to meet Hagrid. When you arrive, Torvus will give you one final piece of advice before you head to the vault.

Sadly, you’ll have to wait eight hours before you can continue. Proceed to the Spider’s Lair once the waiting time is over. Shortly after you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the Acromantula – the most dreadful creature in the entire forest!

You will find out that the Acromantula was feeding on the sleepwalkers. It will be angry at Torvus because he stopped sleepwalkers from coming into Acromantula’s lair.

Acromantula will first decide to spare only Hagrid and eat everybody else because it knows Hagrid. Alas, the creature will quickly change its mind and decide to eat Hagrid as well. The spider will spew webs on your friends, trapping Torvus, Charlie, and Hagrid.

Before the Acromantula gets the chance to attack again, the friend you brought along will interfere and keep it busy while you free the others.

You’ll need to cast the Severing Charm three times to free all of your friends.

Afterward, the Acromantula will get very furious and you’ll have to duel it in order to access the vault. Tap on the crossed wands icon to continue.

This will bring up the task window which will display the recommended attribute levels as well as the cost of each attempt.

This duel can be quite challenging. First of all, the Acromantula has three different moves, one for each stance, and you have to keep that in mind when fighting it. In the Aggressive stance, it can bite you for 15 points of damage instantly. In the Defensive, it’ll throw webs at you for 5 points of damage and a chance for a 1-turn stun. In the Sneaky stance it can poison you for 6 points of damage instantly and 3 damage per turn for 8 turns.

Taking all that into account, the safest way to deal with the creature is to constantly go Aggressive and cast Depulso. This way, the Acromantula will never get to use its most dangerous attack, which is tied to its Aggressive stance. You should be able to win the duel in 3 to 4 turns (based on your Empathy level), as long as you don’t get stunned too much.

While it is entirely possible to get unlucky and end up stunned for several turns in a row, eventually, you will win the duel using this strategy.

After that, you’ll need to cast Arania Exumai to get rid of the Acromantula. Trace the wand movement on the screen to perform this spell.

This will repel the spider which will open the way to the vault. After making sure that everyone is ok, you’ll need to cast the Severing Charm to cut through the webs preventing you from reaching the door.

The inside of the vault will be fairly similar to the other ones. Interestingly enough, nothing will happen after touching the glowing column.

Suddenly, you’ll get another vision involving Jacob. Jacob will talk to you, telling you that only the last vault is real. The rest of them are just decoys, serving as traps, and he helped you as much as he could. Your brother is locked inside the next vault, and after you free him, you could find the final vault together.

Afterward, Torvus will lend you his arrow. Luckily, this will work, and you will be able to open the column with it.

Inside, there will be a portrait of a dragon and a small sweater. The next task involves celebrating at Hagrid’s Hut. Hit the GO button to exit the Cursed Vault.

However, as soon as you leave, you’ll encounter Professor Dumbledore accompanied by the caretaker. He won’t be particularly pleased to see you in the Forbidden Forest.

Once again, you broke Hogwarts rules, and this time, you’ll receive a punishment. The headmaster will ask you what sort of punishment you think you deserve. You can answer in three different ways.

No matter what option you select, you’ll have to serve detention in the Kitchens, starting next year. Keep in mind that picking the first or the third option can result in some rather funny scenes, so you might want to check those out.

Next, you should proceed to the Three Broomsticks to meet your friends. Upon arriving, you’ll notice that some characters have speech bubbles above them. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say.

During the conversation with your friends, Penny will mention that Ben wasn’t punished because he still keeps saying he doesn’t remember anything, and professors can’t punish him until they find out what truly happened. Ben has hardly shown his face since.

Rowan will be pleased with this, while you will wonder how terrible it must be for Ben if he is telling the truth. Ben is still your friend and you need to keep watch on him.

Tulip will ask if you trust Madam Rakepick. You have three options to respond with. Feel free to pick the answer you prefer since this choice won’t affect the story significantly.

You’ll then get to celebrate your victory over another cursed vault. You need to earn five stars within one hour to complete this task. One star is required to pass.

year 4 chapter 16 1660

You should easily be able to finish this task with a single energy bar. Assuming you started with full energy, you won’t have any problems completing it in time. Also, there are actions with bonus progress tied to Penny and your character.

Shortly after you’re done, Hagrid will arrive to inform you that the Headmaster has requested your presence.

You’ll have to wait for three hours before you can proceed. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime. Proceed to the Headmaster’s office once the waiting time is over.

When you arrive, you’ll notice that Professor Dumbledore isn’t there. The only ones in his office will be Fawkes and you.

Your next task is to hang around the office until the Headmaster returns. To do that, you’ll need to earn five stars within three hours. One star is needed to pass.

There is an action with bonus progress tied to your character. Prioritize it in order to save some energy.

Shortly after you’re done, Madam Rakepick will appear from the fireplace. Apparently, she used the Floo Powder to get into the office.

She’ll explain to you that the Headmaster had to leave Hogwarts urgently, so he left her in charge of guiding you. She’ll also reveal that starting next year, she’ll be the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor.

With this, Chapter 16 of Year 4 will conclude. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 250 Coins and 2000 Experience points.

What an exciting chapter. You’ve managed to break another Cursed Vault and find more clues about your brother’s whereabouts. But all those things raised more questions. Hopefully, you’ll get the answers to them and find Jacob and free him.
