The Case of the Missing Pets Part 3

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to Part 3 of our Walkthrough for The Case of the Missing Pets Adventure of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. In the previous part, you met with Penny and informed her that Mrs. Norris had also disappeared, the cat of Mr. Filch, who accuses you of being responsible for her disappearance. You and Penny then went through everything you’ve learned to figure out what to do next. Penny shared that Hagrid returned from Hogsmeade visibly upset, and you headed to him, hoping for assistance.

However, upon arrival, you discover Hagrid was profoundly saddened as his dog, Fang, had also gone missing, even though Merula was supposed to be watching him. You inquired about the trail of birdseed in Hagrid’s garden, but he explained that he doesn’t keep birds, finding the trail odd. Afterward, you talked to Merula to understand how Fang disappeared. She revealed that Fang had barked loudly before vanishing, indicating he likely sensed danger. The discussion with Merula about the birdseed trail led you to realize it was intentionally left for you to find. Understanding the animals are likely in danger, you decided to follow the trail to see where it leads.

(Disclaimer: This walkthrough will feature the gameplay from the perspective of a graduate student. Since the adventure is available for students of Year 2 and above, some dialogue, the star, and attribute requirements for certain tasks might be different for you, depending on your current progress with the main story.)

Proceed to the Dark Forest when you are ready. When you arrive, you’ll say that you were right about the birdseed trail leading you to a place with many other tracks.

Following that, you’ll suggest splitting up and searching for clues.

To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

The bonus progress actions are tied to Merula. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. 

After inspecting the tracks, you’ll realize that someone was with all kinds of different animals. You found footprints, paw prints, and streaks of oil all over the clearing.

You’ll add that if you could just figure out where they went, you might just catch them before they escape. Then, Merula will ask you which of these clues can help you figure out where to go next. There are three different options to choose from. The correct answer is ”The oil”.

Merula will say that she’s pretty sure that oil is actually tung oil, mostly used on wooden boats, which will lead you to the idea of checking the Boathouse.

You’ll decide to head there right away as the culprits of this whole mess might be hiding there.

Go to the Boathouse at Black Lake to continue the story. When you arrive, you’ll notice that the place is quite a mess.

You’ll add that whoever is behind this is likely hiding here.

Suddenly, you and Merula will spot the next clue, which is demiguise hair.

This line will differ based on the year you attend.

Merula will say that it could be useful information, and she’ll ask you what you think that clue tells you. There are three options to choose from. The correct answer is “Someone used an Invisibility Cloak”.

Demiguise hair is used to make Invisibility Cloaks, which explains why your friends haven’t noticed anyone when their pets were disappearing.

Merula will comment that the culprits might still be around, you’ll say that it’s possible and suggest continuing the search, but your conversation will be interrupted by a noise from a nearby trunk.

You’ll also see a bag of birdseed resembling the ones from Hagrid’s garden. Merula will comment that it’s right next to the trunk, suggesting that there might be something valuable inside, and she’ll want to open it.

To examine that trunk, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. Since this task requires a lot of energy, it is recommended to start it with a full energy bar.

Bonus progress actions are tied to a bag with plants and a feather, a trunk, and your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Slide the screen left and right to check all available actions.

Once you finish examining the trunk, you’ll be sure that the trunk is magically influenced in some way.

However, Merula will be convinced that there’s a clue inside the trunk that could help you find Fang and the other pets, and she’ll want to open it. There are two different options to choose from. This choice is important because whoever opens that trunk will be affected by the Curse of Confundus and will begin to speak confusedly. This will not affect the story, only the following dialogues while the curse lasts.

When one of you opens that trunk, the curse will hit someone, and that person will start talking in confusion. These lines will differ based on your previous choice. 

You’ll conclude that it’s the Confundus Curse and that it was a diversion so that the culprits would slow you down. This line will differ based on your previous choice. 

You’ll realize that they’ve probably just left on a boat, and both you and Merula will decide to hurry to Lakeshore to maybe spot them.
